Renewable Energy For Overcoming The Dilemma Of Darkness In Nigerian Urban Centers, Yeken A. Sanusi
CSID Journal of Infrastructure Development
Cities are unique centers of energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions. Although electricity provides multiple functions for urban residents, its supply in Nigerian urban centers is poor, and the attempts to understand this problem have been limited to national level. Therefore, this study aims to explore the dimensions of electricity supply problem; assess adaptations by households to inadequate electricity supply; examine the use of renewable energy-related facilities; and understand the perception of renewables by urban households, with five residential neighborhoods in Minna, the capital of Niger state, were covered. Data were collected using a questionnaire and the Facility Observatory Technique …

Reviewing The Indicators For Assessing Construction Company And Project Performance, Valeriia Arteeva, Angi Skhvediani
CSID Journal of Infrastructure Development
This paper is devoted to analyzing and systematizing indicators for assessing the performance of construction companies and projects. This topic is relevant because financial performance and other indicators of sustainable development are increasingly considered when determining the performance of construction companies. The systems of indicators developed by researchers for construction companies and projects are usually based on one of the three performance assessment models: the Balanced Scorecard Model (BSC), the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), and the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). In this study, we systematized the indicators presented in 18 papers on performance evaluation of construction companies and …

CSID Journal of Infrastructure Development
The lowest electrification rate in Indonesia is in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, leading to a high poverty rate and low education level. At the same time, NTT has higher solar irradiance than the Indonesian average, which can be used for electrification. In 2019-2021, seventeen (17) Solar Home Systems (SHS) were installed in churches with no electricity grid connection to address these challenges. These systems serve church community activities as well as learning centers for students. The first system design was improved and adopted in 2020 and 2021 to meet users’ needs better. However, the COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult …

White matter hyperintensities (WMH) are frequently observed in brain scans of elderly people. They are asso-ciated with an increased risk of stroke, cognitive decline, and dementia. However, it is unknown yet if measures of WMH provide information that improve the understanding of poststroke outcome compared to only state-of-the-art stereotaxic structural lesion data.We implemented high-dimensional machine learning models, based on support vector regression, to predict the severity of spatial neglect in 103 acute right hemispheric stroke patients. We found that (1) the additional information of right hemispheric or bilateral voxel-based topographic WMH extent indeed yielded a significant improvement in predicting acute neglect …

The right of environmental defenders not to be sued civilly or prosecuted criminally is part of human rights regulated in Article 66 of Law 32/2009 (UUPPLH), known as Anti Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (Anti-SLAPP). But in practice, the law is used as a tool to curb public participation. In this case, environmental organizations have an important role to play in assisting communities in fighting for their environmental rights, ranging from non-judicial mechanisms to becoming amicus curiae in court. This research examines literature sources with a library research method through a statutory approach, case approach, and conceptual approach. The result …

Conventional criminal law has always been synonymous with prison, where the settlement can result in the exclusion of the right to a sense of justice for victims because of their disproportionate position. This situation encourages the emergence of the concept of restorative justice, where based on this concept, criminal cases are resolved by involving perpetrators, communities and victims. However, at the regulatory level, the concept of restorative justice is set differently in various rules, which have not been synchronized, such as the internal rules of the Indonesian Police, the Attorney General's Office and the Supreme Court. Inconsistencies in these norms …

The article presents the principle of operation of a jet turbine with a nozzle based on the "Segner" wheel and studies its shortcomings. In order to eliminate the identified shortcomings, a guide device was developed, which is installed inside the hydraulic turbine impeller. Using the Bernoulli equations and the Zhukovsky theory, the energy parameters of a microhydroelectric power station with a developed divertor device and the water flow rate in a hydroturbine are determined. The energy parameters calculated on the basis of theoretical results are analyzed, and it is found that the efficiency of a hydroturbine increases by 10-20% depending …

The coastal regions of the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica, contain deposits of the Ross Sea Drift, sedimentary material left from the Ross Sea ice sheet from the advance of the West Antarctic ice sheet during the Last Glacial Maximum. Much of this deposit is ice-cored, but data on the stable isotopic composition of water from this ice, which may contain a valuable climate archive, are sparse or incomplete. Widespread thermokarstic ground subsidence in this “coastal thaw zone” of the McMurdo Dry Valleys suggests that these potential records are rapidly being lost due to the melting of ground ice and permafrost. …

The global livestock sector is expanding at a faster rate than any other agricultural sub-sector. It employs approximately 1.3 billion people and accounts for approximately 40 % of global agricultural output. This industry is one of the most damaging sectors to the world's increasingly scarce water resources, contributing to water pollution from animal wastes, hormones, antibiotics, chemicals from tanneries, pesticides, and fertilizers used to spray feed crop. Climate change harms livestock productivity by changing ecosystem services i.e. water availability, forage quality and quantity, diseases outbreak, and animals stress due to heat shock and reduction of livestock diversity and breeds.
