Mechanical And Wetting Properties Of Coated Paper Sheets With Varying Polydimethylsiloxane Molecular Masses In The Coating Formulation, Çağla Söz
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Coated paper sheets were prepared by immobilizing a thin coating layer of cross-linked polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and inorganic particles onto Whatman filter paper Grade 1 (WFP) substrates. Several coatings that differed in terms of their PDMS molecular masses were sprayed onto WFP substrates to investigate the effect of this variation on the (i) wettability and (ii) mechanical properties of the samples. Different samples having clay or silica particles in the coating formulation were investigated separately. Nonwettable coated paper sheets with promising mechanical properties were achieved and further investigated in terms of (iii) thermal resistance.

There exists a never-ending “arms race” between malware analysts and adversarial malicious code developers as malevolent programs evolve and countermeasures are developed to detect and eradicate them. Malware has become more complex in its intent and capabilities over time, which has prompted the need for constant improvement in detection and defence methods. Of particular concern are the anti-analysis obfuscation techniques, such as packing and encryption, that are employed by malware developers to evade detection and thwart the analysis process. In such cases, malware is generally impervious to basic analysis methods and so analysts must use more invasive techniques to extract …

Drilling is the hole making process on the component face with the aid of a twisted drillbit. Normal drill bits easily wear out through penetration of drill bit into the workpiece material due to force generated in the drilling operation. So this work tries to investigate the machining parameters with cryogenically treated drill bits on various responses. Cryogenic treatment is one of the thermal engineering processes, which is used to cool the material from the temperature of −150 °C to −273 °C. This research work utilizes cryogenically treated drill tools for investigating the drilling performance on aluminium alloy (IS737.Gr19000) workpiece …

The detection of bacterial antibiotic resistance phenotypes is important when carrying out clinical decisions for patient treatment. Conventional phenotypic testing involves culturing bacteria which requires a significant amount of time and work. Whole-genome sequencing is emerging as a fast alternative to resistance prediction, by considering the presence/absence of certain genes. A lot of research has focused on determining which bacterial genes cause antibiotic resistance and efforts are being made to consolidate these facts in knowledge bases (KBs). KBs are usually manually curated by domain experts to be of the highest quality. However, this limits the pace at which new facts …

Electroencephalography (EEG) signals can be analyzed in the temporal, spatial, or frequency domains. Noise and artifacts during the data acquisition phase contaminate these signals adding difficulties in their analysis. Techniques such as Independent Component Analysis (ICA) require human intervention to remove noise and artifacts. Autoencoders have automatized artifact detection and removal by representing inputs in a lower dimensional latent space. However, little research is devoted to understanding the minimum dimension of such latent space that allows meaningful input reconstruction. Person-specific convolutional autoencoders are designed by manipulating the size of their latent space. A sliding window technique with overlapping is employed …

One of the most critical operations aspects is power management strategies for hybrid AC/DC microgrids. This work presented power management in hybrid AC–DC microgrids with a droop control strategy. At first, photovoltaic, Wind, and battery are used as the power sources, which supply the power with uncertainties. The AC and DC microgrids are controlled by an Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) controller and Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller. Simultaneously we calculate the running cost for photovoltaic, Wind, and Battery. Moreover, an optimizer based on the elephant herding optimization algorithm is formulated to reduce the cost price. This method utilizes two …

The aetiology of ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) and triggers of relapse are poorly understood. Vitamin D (vitD) is an important immunomodulator, potentially responsible for the observed latitudinal differences between granulomatous and non-granulomatous AAV phenotypes. A narrow ultraviolet B spectrum induces vitD synthesis (vitD-UVB) via the skin. We hypothesised that prolonged periods of low ambient UVB (and by extension vitD deficiency) are associated with the granulomatous form of the disease and an increased risk of AAV relapse.

The principal reason for measuring mental workload is to quantify the cognitive cost of performing tasks to predict human performance. Unfortunately, a method for assessing mental workload that has general applicability does not exist yet. This is due to the abundance of intuitions and several operational definitions from various fields that disagree about the sources or workload, its attributes, the mechanisms to aggregate these into a general model and their impact on human performance. This research built upon these issues and presents a novel method for mental workload modelling from EEG data employing deep learning. This method is self-supervised, employing …

An Experimental And Theoretical Analysis Of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction Of Cu(Ii) And Pb(Ii) Ions In The Form Of Dithizone Bidentate Complexes, Jeton Halili, Avni Berisha
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
For more than five decades, dithizone has been widely used as an analytical reagent. This ligand forms strongly colored complexes with metal ions and this ability to form complexes can be used for extraction/removal of certain metal ions in addition to analytical determination. In static mode, the supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of copper and lead ions from aqueous solutions after complexation by the dithizone ligand is studied (at two different conditions: a) p = 120 bar, T = 30 °C, and b) p = 72 bar, T = 50 °C). The addition of methanol improved the extraction process by modulating …

The oxidation of ethylbenzene (EB) using tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidizing agent was carried out in presence of gold nanoparticles (3 nm) supported on zinc oxide in acetonitrile solution. A higher selectivity towards acetophenone (ACP) as the major product, and a moderate selectivity towards other products such as 1-phenylethanol (PE), benzaldehyde (BZL), and benzoic acid (BzA) were observed using the prepared Au/ZnO nanocatalysts at 100 °C for 24 h. It is suggested the reaction produces an intermediate product, which is dimethylethyl-1-phenylethyl peroxide through a radical mechanism. A small amount of benzaldehyde was observed because benzaldehyde went autoxidation to form benzoic …

Synthesis Of Some New Isoxazole Compounds And Their Biological Tyrosinase And Antioxidant Activities, Seda Fandakli
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In this study, 7 new isoxazole compounds (8-14) were synthesized from the cyclization of chalcone compounds (1-7) containing different functional groups with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in alkaline medium. Tyrosinase and antioxidant properties of 8-14 were investigated. IC50 values for the tyrosinase enzyme inhibition of compounds 8, 11, 12, and 13 were varied between 61.47 ± 3.46 and 188.52 ± 5.85, while compounds 9, 10 and 14 did not show any inhibition effect. The antioxidant properties of 8-14 were investigated by DPPH and CUPRAC methods. Compound 12 showed the best DPPH radical scavenging activity (SC50: 40.21 ± 2.71), while 12 and 13 …
