The Difference In Compliance When Visual Education Is Present, Jamie Lenee Joseph
The Difference In Compliance When Visual Education Is Present, Jamie Lenee Joseph
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Lack of patient compliance is a dangerous, widespread problem, often linked to a patient’s misunderstanding of their diagnosis or treatment plan. This project’s practice questions pertained to exploring the impact of a staff education update on visual presentation and patient evaluation with patients taking factor Xa inhibitors in oral anticoagulants and how the staff education increased patient compliance while taking these medications. A combination of the ADDIE model and Kirkpatrick model were used in the planning, development, and evaluation of this project. A pre and post evaluation survey was used to determine the efficacy of the changes made within the …

External Validation And Modification Of A 30-Day Readmission Risk Prediction Model For Heart Failure Patients, Debra Kelly
External Validation And Modification Of A 30-Day Readmission Risk Prediction Model For Heart Failure Patients, Debra Kelly
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The development and validation of 30-day readmission risk prediction models, such as the LACE index, have been of interest to researchers and healthcare organizations, especially since the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services began to impose monetary penalties on hospitals with higher than expected 30-day readmission rates. However, there is a lack of consensus concerning the efficacy of the LACE index in the heart failure population. The purpose of the study was to examine the discriminative accuracy of the LACE index to predict all-cause 30-day readmission for heart failure patients and to build a modified 30-day readmission risk prediction model …
Perceived Discrimination As A Moderator Of The Relationship Between Allostatic Load And Asthma Control, Vera Kern
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
While asthma prevalence in the United States is generally declining, African Americans tend to experience poorer outcomes regarding asthma severity and control. The purpose of the present study was to test whether discrimination (everyday and lifetime) moderated the relationship between allostatic load and asthma severity/asthma control (dyspnea and peak flow). In previous literature, researchers established the relationship between allostatic load and asthma severity/asthma control among African Americans. The biopsychosocial model and allostatic load theory served as the theoretical frameworks for this study. In this cross-sectional, nonexperimental, quantitative design, 201 African Americans between the ages of 34 and 82 years were …

Predictors Of Direct Support Professional Turnover At Residential Facilities For Intellectually–Developmentally Disabled Individuals, Claudio A. Lugo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Turnover continues to be a problem for residential settings that provide services to intellectually–developmentally disabled (IDD) individuals in the United States. The annual turnover rate in residential facilities serving IDD individuals is 45%. Close to 35% of direct support professionals (DSPs) leave their positions in fewer than 6 months and 22% within 6–12 months. Previous studies of healthcare nurses working in hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare settings have found that different factors, such as stress, autonomy, or lack of recognition, contribute to turnover. These factors have not been studied in DSPs working in residential facilities. This quantitative, multiple logistic …

Body-Worn Camera Use And Citizen Behavior During Police–Citizen Encounters, Jennifer Matthews
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Law enforcement officials have been increasingly using body-worn cameras (BWCs). The presence of BWCs and subsequent recordings may have a de-escalation effect on citizens, causing more self-awareness, less combativeness, and more compliance. However, additional knowledge is needed to elucidate how citizens react when they are aware their BWCs are being used. The current study was an examination of citizens’ perceptions regarding compliance during encounters with police officers equipped with BWCs. Deterrence and self-awareness theories were the theoretical framework and procedural justice was the conceptual framework used to understand citizens’ behaviors during police–citizen encounters. Participants were 13 individuals in the state …

Administrative Support For Music Education As Predictor Of Music Teacher Motivation, Tamara Myles
Administrative Support For Music Education As Predictor Of Music Teacher Motivation, Tamara Myles
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Public school policies that prioritize the growth and success of core academic subject areas can lead to the neglect or devaluation of other subjects, including music education. Because school administrators act as enforcers of such policies, music teachers may perceive administrators as unsupportive, which may influence these teachers’ motivation. The purpose of this study was to explore the extent to which music teachers’ perception of principal support for music education predicted their self-reported motivation for teaching music. Maehr’s personal investment theory, which states that individuals exert greater effort on tasks that exhibit a higher likelihood of equal return, was the …
