The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) believes that logistics support is one of the key determinants of a successful large-scale invasion of Taiwan. Logistics support includes transport, materiel and oil supply, medical care, search and rescue, logistics infrastructure protection, and maintenance of war materiel reserves. Despite the recognized importance of logistics support, it is likely the PLA does not currently possess the requisite logistics capabilities to successfully support a large-scale amphibious landing on Taiwan and a possible protracted conflict involving the United States and allies. The energy-water nexus (i.e., availability of potable water and clean energy) is among the most important problems currently facing society. Ammonia is a carbon-free fuel that has the potential to reduce the carbon footprint in combustion related vehicles. However, ammonia production processes typically have their own carbon footprint and do not necessarily come from sustainable sources. This research examines wastewater filtration processes to harvest ammonia for transportation processes. The research team studied mock wastewater solutions and was able to achieve ammonia concentrations above 80%(nanofiltration) and 90% (reverse osmosis). This work aimed to investigate the degradation of fentanyl in aqueous solutions using unsupported water-soluble cobalt(III) porphyrins (55 and 56), AuNP supported water-soluble cobalt(III) porphyrins (67 and 68), and liposome supported water-soluble cobalt(III) porphyrins (69 and 70). Complexes 55, 56, 68, and 69 have been shown to remove fentanyl from aqueous solutions at 37 ºC. The degradation of fentanyl, and the identification of breakdown products were analyzed with the use of time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOFMS). Complex 55 has been shown to completely degrade fentanyl at 37 ºC in as little as two hours with a 400 mol% catalyst loading. Complex …

In this study, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of vapor grown carbon nanofiber (VGCNF) reinforced polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) composite and PVDF/VGCNF thermally sprayed with magnetite (Fe3O4) and graphite has been investigated. EMI SE evaluations were performed in the frequency range of 30 kHz-1.5 GHz. The developed nanocomposite (NC) system was fabricated by high shear mixing using a Banbury type mixer. The material was then subjected to compression molding. Subsequently, the films were thermally sprayed using Fe3O4/graphite powder. The NC and coated NC films had average thicknesses of 0.82 mm and 0.93 mm, respectively. The NC films were subjected …

In this Article I will show, first, that there are no grounds to hold that the elimination of political groups can be treated as political genocide under international law, and second, that under the doctrine developed in ICTY Prosecutor v. Dusko Tadic there is no need to appeal to that category to obtain the punishment of the perpetrators of crimes against political groups. Security Council Fact-Finding: A Prerequisite To Effective Prevention Of War, John Quigley

This article examines a number of incidents in which the Security Council has been asked to act on a breach of the peace allegation. In some, the Council took no action because it decided, without investigating, that the allegations were baseless. In others, as in the 1992 situation involving Libya, it took action based on facts presented by the complainant. In still others, the Council ordered an investigation before deciding whether to act. The incidents examined involve events in Greece, Albania, Palestine, Korea, Egypt, Lebanon, Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Nicaragua, Libya, Panama, and Iraq.

Extreme weather conditions associated with climate change affect many aspects of plant and animal life, including the response to infectious diseases. Production of salicylic acid (SA), a central plant defence hormone, is particularly vulnerable to suppression by short periods of hot weather above the normal plant growth temperature range via an unknown mechanism. Here we show that suppression of SA production in Arabidopsis thaliana at 28 °C is independent of PHYTOCHROME B (phyB) and EARLY FLOWERING 3 (ELF3), which regulate thermo-responsive plant growth and development. The sampling instrument can include a high-pressure pulsed valve coupled to a gas flow system to displace a sample from a surface. Also included can be a voltage supply coupled to a voltage switch, a suction device, a sample collector, and a collection filter. To collect a sample, extractive particles can be deposited onto a sample present on a substrate. Indeed, in a world that continues to deprive millions of individuals of the minimum standards of human dignity, certain insurgencies are fundamentally law-enforcing (a condition that should be especially familiar to all those who celebrate the American Revolution of 1776). The paper introduces the concept and social current of capitalist dictatorship to the broader sociological audience, aside from Marxist sociology. It conceptualizes, specifies and exemplifies capitalist dictatorship in the form of a mostly neoclassical economic and non-Marxist sociological conceptualization. Generally, it advances a conceptualization in terms of dictatorial rule of capital over non-capital, which it derives from neoclassical economic and non-Marxist sociological frameworks rather than the Marxist framework. Particularly, the paper conceptualizes capitalist dictatorship in terms of autocracy, oligarchy and plutocracy and kleptocracy within capitalism in accordance with neoclassical and non-Marxist frameworks. The Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy hold a noted position of the history of Native Americans in North America especially the northeastern woodlands. My thesis states that the Iroquois people were the dominant Native Americans in the Ohio during colonial period. In stating this, I would also relate that the Iroquois people were more than just the Five Nations and their related Nations controlled a broad swath of land from Lake Superior to Chesapeake Bay.
