The RUMERTIME Process (RP) is a five-step culturally responsive social-emotional, problem-solving, prevention-intervention strategy used to educate, equip, and empower students, educators, and families. The RP equips individuals with the abilities to recognize, understand, manage, express, and reflect on their thoughts, interactions, mindsets, and emotions (RUMERTIME) in relation to themselves, others, and the daily life challenges they face within multiple systems and settings. The RP is embedded within the Cultivating SEEDS System framework (CSS) and is utilized to equip culturally diverse communities, inclusive of students, family members, educators, and administrators, with the social-emotional skills to effectively solve student attendance problems (SAPs). …

Lashing and de-lashing operations of containers cargo on board containerships are considered as quite strenuous activities in which operators are required to work continuously over a 6 or 8 hours shift with very limited break. This is mostly because containerships need to leave the port as soon as possible and containers loading and unloading operations must be executed with very high productivity (stay moored in a port is a totally unproductive time for a ship and a loss-making business for a shipping company). Operators performing lashing and de-lashing operations are subjected to intense ergonomic stress and uncomfortable working postures. To …

Understanding The Influence Of Authentic Leadership And Employee-Organization Relationships On Employee Voice Behaviors In Response To Dissatisfying Events At Work, Young Kim, Ejae Lee, Minjeong Kang, Sung-Un Yang
College of Communication Faculty Research and Publications
This study demonstrates how authentic leadership and the quality of employee-organization relationships (EOR) influence employee behavioral reactions to dissatisfying events at work. We conducted a nationwide survey of 644 full-time employees in the United States. The results from the structural equation modeling (SEM) revealed that authentic leadership was positively and directly related to employees’ considerate voice but was not directly associated with other behavioral responses. Additionally, the quality of EOR was found to be a strong mediator between authentic leadership and employee behaviors—particularly in enhancing considerate voice and patience and reducing exit—in the context of dissatisfying workplace events. The implications …

The Effect Of Virtual Learning As A Result Of Covid-19, Ann Redle Ms., Joel Mcmullen
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
In the early spring of 2020, the United States began to experience the effects of the question-inspiring, novel COVID-19 viral illness, with the onset of massive business, school, and entertainment closures, initiating a shift towards virtual learning, communication, and professional interactions. This paper is intended to identify the common experiences of two nursing students throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by utilizing a personal narrative, or autoethnographic approach, coupled with reviews of previously published literature relating to shared themes of the authors, including the rapid changes to an online environment from traditional classroom settings, the stressors that were experienced as a result …
Screening For Energy Restriction In Middle And Late Life, Kate Happel Krautbauer
Screening For Energy Restriction In Middle And Late Life, Kate Happel Krautbauer
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The most commonly used screening tools for disordered eating, the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) and Eating Disorders Examination–Questionnaire (EDE-Q), rely on the detection of shape and weight concerns to identify potentially dangerous caloric restriction among adolescent girls and young adult women. It is unclear how accurate these measures are at detecting restriction among adults 40 years and older. These adults may be vulnerable to developing or maintaining restrictive eating patterns when healthcare providers recommend weight loss as a preventative health measure or when acute or chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes or cancers) impact eating. The present online study (a) evaluated the …

Predicting Students' Mental Disorders Using Machine Learning, Maryam Sadiq
Theses
The mental health issues among students are prevailing due to predictions of low mood, anxiety, depression, and academic difficulties. Late diagnosis of these mental health issues takes prolonged measures to minimise its impact. Nowadays, machine learning is used to assess mental health by detecting signals that provide information about mental health through brain scans and questionnaires. Early detection of mental health issues in students possible to control them effectively. Colleges and universities are trying to improve student care by assessing their mental health and reducing mental health problems through psychological therapies. Machine learning techniques, including Multiclass Classifier, LAD Tree, and …

Mandhar Smart Application For The Visual Pollution In Muhaisnah-2 Area – Dubai Uae, Hamda Mohamed Alharmoudi
Theses
People naturally love beauty, beautiful views, and a beautiful environment. Beauty is the human eye that makes him happy and brings pleasure to his heart. If sport feeds the body and science feeds the mind, then beauty feeds the soul and the mind, all the beauty around us feeds the brain that has a positive impact on human life, and the distortion that we encounter in our life has a negative impact on us. Therefore, visual pollution is defined as, everything that is inconsistent with the beauty of the environment that surrounds us which create a harmful change for the …

Études primaires
Purpose
The purpose of the present study was to conduct a preliminary evaluation of the feasibility and impact of a risk-targeted behavioral activation intervention for work-disabled individuals with comorbid pain and depression.
Methods
The design of the study was a single-arm non-randomized trial. The sample consisted of 66 work-disabled individuals with comorbid pain and depression. The treatment program consisted of a 10-week standardized behavioral activation intervention supplemented by techniques to target two psychosocial risk factors for delayed recovery, namely, catastrophic thinking and perceptions of injustice. Measures of pain severity, depression, catastrophic thinking, perceived injustice, and self-reported disability were completed pre-, …

The public health response to the breakout of COVID-19 requires fundamental changes in individual behavior, such as isolation at home or social distancing. However, the difference in COVID mortality rates between men and women could indicate gender differences in COVID-19 attitudes and behavior. In this study, we used a sample of 512 participants to examine whether there were relationships between gender and degree of adherence to social distancing and quarantining protocols. An independent samples t-Test was conducted to evaluate the hypothesis that men spend fewer days social distancing than women. The test was not significant. Another independent samples t-Test was …

A Study On Anti-Maskers, Cole Kessler, Lauren Toy
Student Publications and Presentations
In-depth interviews were conducted in September of 2021 with 15 Florida residents between the ages of 18-30 (8 males, 7 females). Our primary goal was to identify why these individuals choose not to wear face masks when required or highly recommended despite the potential legal, social, and health consequences. The researchers discovered that these individuals frame not wearing masks as physically harmless, and socially and legally acceptable. Specifically, these individuals justify their anti-masking actions using seven patterns arising from both their internal views and external influences. These patterns are: 1) Changing CDC mask wearing recommendations, 2) Mask wearing health consequences, …
The Effects Of Building Envelope Parameters On Energy Performance For High-Rise Buildings In Central Saudi Arabia, Nadia Arafah
The Effects Of Building Envelope Parameters On Energy Performance For High-Rise Buildings In Central Saudi Arabia, Nadia Arafah
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Sustainable design is achievable based on the social, economic, and environmental pillars interrelated with energy consumption worldwide. Saudi Arabia is one of the largest countries that consume massive amounts of energy, mainly for generating electricity to operate buildings and cope with population growth. Despite Saudi Arabia’s fast economic development, building envelopes in Saudi Arabia deserve more research attention to address energy consumption and environmental challenges. With the extremely hot weather in the country, building occupants use air conditioning extensively to overcome the heat and achieve thermal comfort. This research analyzed building envelope variables in an existing building in Riyadh, Saudi …
The Role Of Caregiver-Reported Emerging Social Attention In Predicting Duration Of Orienting And Social Communication, Casey E. Swick
The Role Of Caregiver-Reported Emerging Social Attention In Predicting Duration Of Orienting And Social Communication, Casey E. Swick
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Early identification of atypical development could lead to opportunities for earlier intervention, ultimately improving developmental outcomes. Early signs of atypical attention, social attention, and social communication development emerge in infancy, yet age at diagnosis of neurodevelopmental difficulties does not typically occur until well after the first year of life. In order to achieve this goal of early identification, sensitive and accessible tools are needed to identify infants at risk for atypical development. This study examined whether caregivers could report on emerging social attention behaviors in the first days to weeks of life with a novel, experimental scale (PediaTrac SSIP). This …
