Strategies Mental Health Managers Use To Reduce Direct Care Employee Turnover, Theresa Foster

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Direct care professionals assist people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with health care services in the consumer's home, community based residential setting, hospitals, and vocational settings. Sierra Leone faces immense challenges in supporting good quality, woman-centered care, with one of the world's highest maternal mortality ratios of 717 per 100,000 live births. In countries with high maternal mortality, evidence of the fear of disrespect and abuse women usually confront in maternity care is a more solid deterrent to the use of skilled care than commonly recognized barriers, such as cost or distance. This qualitative phenomenological study aimed at understanding the childbirth experiences and perceptions of Sierra Leonean women relating to basic maternal rights. The ecological systems theoretical framework and the respectful maternity care charter conceptual framework …

Stakeholder Perceptions Regarding The Impact Of Creative Placemaking On Homelessness In Neighborhoods Experiencing Gentrification, Vanessa Renee Frazier

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Urban planning and community development scholars continue to be interested in creative placemaking, a process meant to facilitate strategic partnerships between public and private sectors, art and culture communities, and community sectors, and the role it plays within the displacement of residents living in gentrified neighborhoods. However, researchers have found that the implementation of creative placemaking results in gentrification-related outcomes. Researchers have found a connection between the lack of affordable housing and gentrification-related displacement when creative placemaking is implemented. Researchers have suggested that stakeholder decisions direct the outcomes related to the implementation of creative placemaking; however, there is a lack …

Help-Seeking Behaviors For Depression Among Native Hawaiian Women In The Western Region Of The United States Mainland, Marlana Glover

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Help-seeking for depression, as with other mental illnesses is contingent upon stigmas that one perceives. With lack of trust in the U.S. healthcare system, many native Hawaiians are reluctant to seek help for depression. Furthermore, research has shown that most studies on native Hawaiians are conducted in their native environment when many Hawaiians relocate to the U.S. mainland. Because of the current depression crisis, it is critical to explore depression among native Hawaiians, particularly women on the mainland to see …

Law Enforcement Officers' Experience Of Crisis Intervention Team (Cit) Training, Jessica Yolanda Goings

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractThe decline in mental health services has led to an increased role of law enforcement officers (LEOs), who are often the first to respond to mental health crisis incidents. The purpose of the research was to explore the experience of Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for LEOs and then describe how their experience ensued once deployed to the field to handle mental health encounters. Evaluations of CIT training have …

Grounded in resilience theory, the purpose of this qualitative study was to examine challenges social workers faced when attempting to facilitate discharge planning between inpatient mental health facilities …

Blood Stream Infections Related To Hemodialysis Catheter Use, Patricia Goodman Jan 2022

Blood Stream Infections Related To Hemodialysis Catheter Use, Patricia Goodman

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Abstract Hemodialysis is a life-sustaining procedure for patients diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. Most of these patients initiate hemodialysis with a tunneled central venous catheter, with some depending on its use for long-term treatment due to poor vascularity. Catheter-related bloodstream infections in hemodialysis patients are a complication of hemodialysis catheter use with a high morbidity and mortality rate. A quality improvement (QI) project was conducted to answer the practice-focused question of whether the use of chlorhexidine swabs and caps for central venous catheter dressing changes decreased the rate of hemodialysis catheter-related bloodstream infections. Resolution to this problem would benefit the …
