Exosomes are nano-vesicles (NVs) secreted by cells and take part in cell-cell communications. Lately, these exosomes were proved to have dual faces in cancer. Actually, they can contribute to carcinogenesis through epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), angiogenesis, metastasis and tumor microenvironment (TME) of various cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). On the other hand, they can be potential targets for cancer treatment. CRC is one of the most frequent tumors worldwide, with incidence rates rising in the recent decades. In its early stage, CRC is asymptomatic with poor treatment outcomes. Therefore, finding a non-invasive, early diagnostic biomarker tool and/or suitable defender to combat …

An Intelligent Approach For Predicting The Strength Of Geosynthetic-Reinforced Subgrade Soil, Muhammad Nouman Amjad Raja, Sanjay K. Shukla, Muhammad Umer Arif Khan
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
In the recent times, the use of geosynthetic-reinforced soil (GRS) technology has become popular for constructing safe and sustainable pavement structures. The strength of the subgrade soil is routinely assessed in terms of its California bearing ratio (CBR). However, in the past, no effort was made to develop a method for evaluating the CBR of the reinforced subgrade soil. The main aim of this paper is to explore and appraise the competency of the several intelligent models such as artificial neural network (ANN), least median of squares regression, Gaussian processes regression, elastic net regularisation regression, lazy K-star, M-5 model …
Innovative Behavior Among Service Workers And The Importance Of Leadership: Evidence From An Emerging Economy, Albert Amankwaa, Pattanee Susomrith, Pi-Shen Seet
Innovative Behavior Among Service Workers And The Importance Of Leadership: Evidence From An Emerging Economy, Albert Amankwaa, Pattanee Susomrith, Pi-Shen Seet
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
This study focuses on how service firms can nurture innovative behavior of employees through the important role of leadership. Despite the growth in innovation research, scholars have been slow to move from an R&D (i.e., technical capital) focus to that focusing on employee innovative behavior. However, organizations’ innovation initiatives heavily depend on employee human capital and behavior at work as these are key inputs in the value creation process. We focus on a specific type of leadership, transformational leadership, and explore a nascent employee concept, job embeddedness, to enhance our understanding of the mechanisms and conditions by which leaders may …
Impact Of Supply Chain Integration On Halal Food Supply Chain Integrity And Food Quality Performance, Mohd Helmi Ali, Mohammad Iranmanesh, Kim Hua Tan, Suhaiza Zailani, Nor Asiah Omar
Impact Of Supply Chain Integration On Halal Food Supply Chain Integrity And Food Quality Performance, Mohd Helmi Ali, Mohammad Iranmanesh, Kim Hua Tan, Suhaiza Zailani, Nor Asiah Omar
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Purpose: The current complex halal food supply chain (SC) has caused food scandals, which have illustrated the weakness of multiple food quality standards and certification and audits in ensuring food safety. Drawn on the resource-based view (RBV) theory, the purpose of this study is to explore the impacts of SC integration (SCI) on halal food SC integrity and, consequently, food quality.
Design/methodology/approach: Empirical data were collected from 275 halal-certified food companies in Malaysia and analysed using structural equation modelling – SmartPLS3.0.
Findings: The results confirmed that SCI, including internal, supplier and customer integrations, has significant effects on the dimensions of …

This case study describes a combined graduate and undergraduate instructional design studio that introduced undergraduate students to instructional design in a multifaceted, holistic, and applied way. Reviewing the experience of the undergraduates in the course, this design case describes four learning interventions used to create this applied experience: (1) instructional design team projects—one non-profit and the other in higher education, (2) weekly seminars and biweekly training sessions from field experts, (3) an experiential out-of-state trip, and (4) weekly reflection journals. These studio-based learning interventions are presented within the context of the Experiential Learning Theory and Model-Centered Instruction. Overall, the course …

Influence Of Mineralogy And Surfactant Concentration On Zeta Potential In Intact Sandstone At High Pressure, Faisal Ur Rahman Awan, Ahmed Al-Yaseri, Hamed Akhondzadeh, Sefan Iglauer, Alireza Keshavarz
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Hypothesis:
Zeta-potential in the presence of brine has been studied for its application within hydrocarbon reservoirs. These studies have shown that sandstone’s zeta-potential remains negatively charged, non-zero, and levels-off at salinities > 0.4 mol.dm−3, thus becoming independent of salinity when ionic strength is increased further. However, research conducted to date has not yet considered clay-rich (i.e. clay ≥ 5 wt%) sandstones.
Experiments:
Firstly, streaming potential measurements were conducted on Bandera Gray sandstones (clay-rich and clay-poor) with 0.6 and 2 mol.dm−3 NaCl brine-saturated in pressurised environments (6.895 MPa overburden and 3.447 MPa back-pressure). Secondly, the streaming potential was determined …

Background: Collation of aphasia research data across settings, countries and study designs using big data principles will support analyses across different language modalities, levels of impairment, and therapy interventions in this heterogeneous population. Big data approaches in aphasia research may support vital analyses, which are unachievable within individual trial datasets. However, we lack insight into the requirements for a systematically created database, the feasibility and challenges and potential utility of the type of data collated. Aim: To report the development, preparation and establishment of an internationally agreed aphasia after stroke research database of individual participant data (IPD) to facilitate planned …

Hydrogen Diffusion In Coal: Implications For Hydrogen Geo‐Storage, Alireza Keshavarz, Hussein R. Abid, Muhammad Ali, Sefan Iglauer
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Hypothesis
Hydrogen geo-storage is considered as an option for large scale hydrogen storage in a full-scale hydrogen economy. Among different types of subsurface formations, coal seams look to be one of the best suitable options as coal’s micro/nano pore structure can adsorb a huge amount of gas (e.g. hydrogen) which can be withdrawn again once needed. However, literature lacks fundamental data regarding H2 diffusion in coal.
Experiments
In this study, we measured H2 adsorption rate in an Australian anthracite coal sample at isothermal conditions for four different temperatures (20 °C, 30 °C, 45 °C and 60 °C), at …

Background: We require high-quality information on the current burden, the types of therapy and resources available, methods of delivery, care pathways and long-term outcomes for people with aphasia. Aim: To document and inform international delivery of post-stroke aphasia treatment, to optimise recovery and reintegration of people with aphasia. Methods & Procedures: Multi-centre, prospective, non-randomised, open study, employing blinded outcome assessment, where appropriate, including people with post-stroke aphasia, able to attend for 30 minutes during the initial language assessment, at first contact with a speech and language therapist for assessment of aphasia at participating sites. There is no study-mandated intervention. Assessments …
