An Analysis And Assessment Of Water Adequacy For Economic Crop Cultivation In Rayong Province, Ekkamol Vannametee, Praewa Udomdechawet, Parinda Pannoon
Journal of Letters
This research evaluates the adequacy of rainfall and irrigation for economic crop cultivation in Rayong province, Thailand, in 2013, 2016, 2018 and 2020. The methodology starts with an estimation of the water demand of 23 crop types at each growth stage, based on the FAO Penman-Monteith equation for crop evapotranspiration. Next, soil water balance was calculated on a monthly basis, given components of rainfall, soil water from the previous month, percolation from the plant root zone, and crop water uptake. Calculations were made in a grid of 40 x 40 metre using the Geographic Information System. Adequacy of rainfall supply …

Making Group Work Work: Constructing Groups And Assignments Based Around Relevant Assessments To Increase Student Success, James Altman
UNLV Best Teaching Practices Expo
Helping college students get the most out of their talents, is challenging even without the ongoing uncertainty of the post-Pandemic landscape. Shyness, lack of comfort with the subject matter, and fear of having their ideas dismissed, can all keep students from expressing their ideas as fully as they, and we, would like. This can lead to non-completion or plagiarism of assignments. In group settings, it can lead to one student “taking over” the project, or the rest of the group “pushing it off” on one member. Constructing groups and/or assignments based around relevant assessments, namely Myers-Briggs and “The Six Working …

Study On Performance Optimization Of Gasification Slag Based Paste Filling Materials In Ningdong Mining Area, Chen Denghong, Li Chao, Zhang Zhiguo
Coal Geology & Exploration
As one of the nine coal bases at hundred million ton level in Yellow River Basin, Ningdong Mining Area has nearly 2×108 t of coal-based solid waste produced annually, and faces to the problems of large stock of gasification slag, difficulty in scaled utilization, and limited space for simple landfill. Filling mining could solve the problem of stockpiling, of which the cost is high and the performance needs to be optimized. According to the response surface method, 17 groups of central composite experiments were designed for the three factors at three levels: the mixing amount of gasification slag in …

ε-Fe2O3 is an iron(III) oxide polymorph attracting an increasing interest due to its unique magnetic properties combining extremely high coercivity and relatively large saturation magnetization. We review existing methods for the ε-Fe2O3 synthesis focusing on synthesis speed, repeatability, manufacturability and purity of the final product. Samples of ε-Fe2O3 have been synthesized using the two methods that appear the most promising: silica gel impregnation and microemulsion. In both cases, ε-Fe2O3 and α-Fe2O3 are present in the final product as attested by X-ray diffraction patterns and magnetic properties (maximum coercive force at 300 K~1 Tesla). Two different precursors, iron(III) nitrate and iron(II) …

Correlation Of Road Network Structure And Urban Mobility Intensity: An Exploratory Study Using Geo-Tagged Tweets, Li Geng, Ke Zhang
Publications and Research
Urban planners have been long interested in understanding how urban structure and activities are mutually influenced. Human mobility and economic activities naturally drive the formation of road network structure and the accessibility of the latter shapes the patterns of movement flow across urban space. In this paper, we perform an exploratory study on the relationship between the street network structure and the intensity of human movement in urban areas. We focus on two cities and we utilize a dataset of geo-tagged tweets that can form a proxy to urban mobility and the corresponding street networks as obtained from OpenStreetMap. We …

Ai In The Hands Of Imperfect Users, Kristin M Kostick-Quenet, Sara Gerke
Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy Staff Publications
As the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) continues to expand in healthcare, much attention has been given to mitigating bias in algorithms to ensure they are employed fairly and transparently. Less attention has fallen to addressing potential bias among AI/ML's human users or factors that influence user reliance. We argue for a systematic approach to identifying the existence and impacts of user biases while using AI/ML tools and call for the development of embedded interface design features, drawing on insights from decision science and behavioral economics, to nudge users towards more critical and reflective decision making using …

Exploring Medical Marijuana Knowledge and Perceptions among a Community-Based Sample
Abstract
Background: The increasing number of states legalizing marijuana suggests that a growing majority of adults now see marijuana as offering more benefits than risks. As use increases, the need to better understand user characteristics and the nature of their beliefs also increases. Purpose: This exploratory study investigates the knowledge and perceptions of medical marijuana among community-based individuals. We theorize that demographic characteristics, socioeconomic status, social network, health status, and knowledge about marijuana are associated with the number of conditions the person believes marijuana treats. Methods: The study utilizes a …

Advances On Composite Cathodes For Lithium-Sulfur Batteries, Xi-Yao Li, Chang-Xin Zhao, Bo-Quan Li, Jia-Qi Huang, Qiang Zhang
Journal of Electrochemistry
Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are deemed as high-promising next-generation energy storage technique due to their ultrahigh theoretical energy density, where the sulfur cathodes with high specific capacity guarantee the energy density advantage and directly determine the battery performances. After decades of exploration, the most promising sulfur cathodes are sulfur/carbon composite (S/C) cathodes and sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) cathodes. In this manuscript, recent advances on S/C and SPAN cathodes in Li-S batteries are comprehensively reviewed. The electrochemical reaction circumstances on S/C and SPAN cathodes are firstly introduced and compared to reveal the working mechanisms of the two types of Li-S batteries. The S/C …

Coal Geology & Exploration
The identification and classification of coal-measure graphite are the precondition and basic work of mineral geological exploration, as well as resource exploitation and utilization. The preparation of identification standards of coal-measure graphite should follow the principles of science, systematicness, applicability and operability. Coal graphitization and coalification is a continuous progression plus jump process, and the characteristics of coal-measure graphite, including the step evolution of macromolecular structure and the heterogeneity of material composition, leads to the complexity of ore identification. In order to establish the scientific and practical identification standards, and from the study of metallogenic mechanism and the demand of …

As the key project of Zhuhai Connecting Line of Hong Kong‒Zhuhai‒Macao Bridge, the underground excavation section of Gongbei Tunnel has applied the freeze-sealing pipe roof method for the first time. Combining the advantages of the pipe roof method and the artificial ground freezing method, this method could form a “jacked pipe-frozen soil curtain” composite support system on the tunnel section, so as to effectively achieve the dual goals of “bearing” and “water-stopping between pipes”, thereby ensuring that stability and safety during tunnel excavation. To obtain the temperature, deformation and mechanical properties of the “jacked pipe-frozen soil” composite structure, a set …
