The Efficacy And Safety Of Adding Olanzapine To Triple Drugs Regimen To Prevent Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea And Vomiting: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis Of Rcts, Sharanabasayyaswamy B. Hiremath, Srinivas L. Devendrappa
Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy Research
Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is a complication of highly emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC) agents. The present meta-analysis was conducted to quantify and analyze the efficacy and safety of adding olanzapine to a Neurokinin Receptor Antagonist (NKRA) based triple-drug regimen in preventing HEC-induced CINV. Electronic database searches in PUBMED and Cochrane library was conducted using MeSH search terms “olanzapine” and “chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.” Randomized or cross-over trials comparing the efficacy of “olanzapine + NKRA based triple-drug regimen” vs. “placebo + NKRA based triple-drug regimen” in patients of age > 18 years with any malignancy receiving HEC were considered under inclusion criteria. …

Perceptual Analysis Of Distance Sampling And Transmittance Estimation Techniques In Biomedical Volume Visualization, Raazia Sosan, Muhammad Mobeen Movania, Shama Siddiqui
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In volumetric path tracer, distance sampling and transmittance estimation techniques play a vital role in producing high-quality final rendered images. Previously, these techniques were implemented for production volume rendering, and were analyzed for faster convergence. In this article, we have augmented additional transmittance estimators including ratio tracking, residual ratio tracking and unbiased ray marcher in a GPU-based volumetric path tracer (Exposure Render) for biomedical datasets. We have also analyzed distance sampling methods and transmittance estimators perceptually using CIEDE2000 and Structural Similarity Index (SSIM). It was found that ratio and residual ratio tracking estimators performed close to each other and were …

Total Wellness Of Turkish International Students: Perceptions And Inherent Growth Tendencies, Mehmet Avci, Romulo E. Montilla
Journal of Comparative & International Higher Education
Research on the international students primarily focuses on adjustment and acculturation issues rather than building and maintaining the wellness of specific cultural groups of international students. This study used basic psychological needs involved in self-determination theory to investigate the relationship between autonomy, competence, and relatedness needs, self-determined way of functioning, and wellness of Turkish international students in the U.S. Data was collected before Covid-19 pandemic using a self-administered survey from 179 (71 females) Turkish international students with a mean age of 29.7 years. The results indicated that the perceived total wellness of Turkish international students was slightly low. The results …

Obstetrics and Gynaecology, East Africa
Background: Public health emergencies can disrupt the provision of and access to essential health-care services, exacerbating health crises. We aimed to assess the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on essential health-care services in Kenya.
Methods: Using county-level data routinely collected from the health information system from health facilities across the country, we used a robust mixed-effect model to examine changes in 17 indicators of essential health services across four periods: the pre-pandemic period (from January, 2018 to February, 2020), two pandemic periods (from March to November 2020, and February to October, 2021), and the period during the COVID-19-associated health-care workers’ …
Symptoms Of Maternal Psychological Distress During Pregnancy: Sex-Specific Effects For Neonatal Morbidity, Sandra J. Weiss, Joseph Musana
Symptoms Of Maternal Psychological Distress During Pregnancy: Sex-Specific Effects For Neonatal Morbidity, Sandra J. Weiss, Joseph Musana
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, East Africa
Objectives: Maternal psychological distress during pregnancy has been associated with preterm birth. However, little is known about the relationship of a woman’s psychological symptoms during pregnancy to the infant’s morbidity at birth or any differential effects of these symptoms on female vs. male fetuses. Our research aims addressed these gaps.
Methods: A total of 186 women were enrolled between 24 and 34 weeks gestation when demographic information was acquired and they completed the Brief Symptom Inventory to measure psychological distress. Data on gestational age at birth, fetal sex, and neonatal morbidity was extracted from the medical record. To control for …

Alternative Modes Of Entry And Unexpected Events In Franchising, Alexander Rosado-Serrano, Antonio Navarro-García
Alternative Modes Of Entry And Unexpected Events In Franchising, Alexander Rosado-Serrano, Antonio Navarro-García
Journal of Global Business Insights
Store-in-store franchising or corner franchising is the application of a franchise format within another business, such as big box retailers, supermarkets, and gas stations; and pop-up stores are temporary store formats opened in shopping malls or other venues for a short period. Despite the regular application of these strategies by franchisers, the academic literature on store-in-store franchising and pop-up stores is relatively limited. There is a particular need after the COVID-19 outbreak to construct new lenses through which to explore how these modes of entry adapt to the new environment of business interruptions and border closures. Motivated by this research …

The fetal-to-adult switch in hemoglobin production is a model of developmental gene control with relevance to the treatment of hemoglobinopathies. The expression of transcription factor BCL11A, which represses fetal β-type globin (HBG) genes in adult erythroid cells, is predominantly controlled at the transcriptional level but the underlying mechanism is unclear. We identify HIC2 as a repressor of BCL11A transcription. HIC2 and BCL11A are reciprocally expressed during development. Forced expression of HIC2 in adult erythroid cells inhibits BCL11A transcription and induces HBG expression. HIC2 binds to erythroid BCL11A enhancers to reduce chromatin accessibility and binding of transcription factor GATA1, …

The in vivo persistence of adoptively transferred T cells is predictive of antitumor response. Identifying functional properties of infused T cells that lead to in vivo persistence and tumor eradication has remained elusive. We profiled CD19-specific chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells as the infusion products used to treat large B cell lymphomas using high-throughput single-cell technologies based on time-lapse imaging microscopy in nanowell grids (TIMING), which integrates killing, cytokine secretion, and transcriptional profiling. Our results show that the directional migration of CD19-specific CAR T cells is correlated with multifunctionality. We showed that CD2 on T cells is associated with …

Purpose: Intravenous vitamin C (IVC) is used in a variety of disorders with limited supporting pharmacokinetic data. Herein we report a pharmacokinetic study in healthy volunteers and cancer participants with IVC doses in the range of 1-100 g.
Methods: A pharmacokinetic study was conducted in 21 healthy volunteers and 12 oncology participants. Healthy participants received IVC infusions of 1-100 g; oncology participants received IVC infusions of 25-100 g. Serial blood and complete urine samples were collected pre-infusion and for 24 h post-infusion. Pharmacokinetic parameters were computed using noncompartmental methods. Adverse events were monitored during the study.
Results: In both cohorts, …

Radiological imaging is an integral component of cancer care, including diagnosis, staging, and treatment response monitoring. It contains rich information about tumor phenotypes that are governed not only by cancer cellintrinsic biological processes but also by the tumor microenvironment, such as the composition and function of tumor-infiltrating immune cells. By analyzing the radiological scans using a quantitative radiomics approach, robust relations between specific imaging and molecular phenotypes can be established. Indeed, a number of studies have demonstrated the feasibility of radiogenomics for predicting intrinsic molecular subtypes and gene expression signatures in breast cancer based on MRI. In parallel, promising results …
