Problem-Based Learning And Case-Based Learning: Which Is More Effective For Fostering Mathematical Connection?, Erlinda Rahma Dewi, Arifta Nurjanah
Jurnal Riset Pendidikan Matematika
Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Case-Based Learning (CBL) are two typical learning approaches that involve problem-solving activities, likely to encourage students' mathematical connection abilities. This study aimed to describe the differences in mathematical connection ability between students studying with the PBL and those who used the CBL approach. A quasi-experiment with a pretest-post-test non-equivalent group design was conducted for the purpose. The data collection method was non-routine problems about mathematical connections. The data was analyzed using inferential statistics. Paired sample t-tests adopted were to examine the difference between pretest and post-test data in each experimental class, and independent sample t-tests were …

Machine Learning-Based Data Analytics For Understanding Space Weather And Climate, Yasser Abduallah
Machine Learning-Based Data Analytics For Understanding Space Weather And Climate, Yasser Abduallah
Dissertations
This dissertation addresses multiple crucial problems in space weather and climate, presenting new machine learning-based data analytics algorithms and models for tackling the problems.
First, the dissertation presents two new approaches to predicting solar flares. One approach, called DeepSun, predicts solar flares by utilizing a machine-learning-as-a-service (MLaaS) platform. The DeepSun system provides a friendly interface for Web users and an application programming interface (API) for remote programming users. It adopts an ensemble learning method that employs several machine learning algorithms to perform multiclass flare prediction. The other approach, named SolarFlareNet, forecasts the occurrence of solar flares within the next 24 …

Bioremediation Of Petroleum Hydrocarbons In Coastal Sediments, Charbel Abou Khalil
Bioremediation Of Petroleum Hydrocarbons In Coastal Sediments, Charbel Abou Khalil
Dissertations
The biodegradation of dispersed crude oil in the ocean is relatively rapid (a half-life of a few weeks). However, it is often much slower on shorelines, usually attributed to low moisture content, nutrient limitation, and higher oil concentrations in beaches than in dispersed plumes. Another factor may be the increased salinity of the upper intertidal and supratidal zones since these parts of the beach are potentially subject to prolonged evaporation and only intermittent inundation. Therefore, two laboratory experiments are conducted to investigate whether such an increase in porewater salinity results in additional inhibitory effects on oil biodegradation in seashores.

Combustion Soot Nanoparticles: Mechanism Of Restructuring And Mechanical Properties, Ali Hasani
Combustion Soot Nanoparticles: Mechanism Of Restructuring And Mechanical Properties, Ali Hasani
Dissertations
Soot, a product of incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, is a global warming agent. The effect of soot particles on climate depends on their morphology. Freshly released soot particles are fractal lacey aggregates, but they often appear collapsed in atmospheric samples collected away from emission sources. A body of work has concluded that the collapse is caused by liquid shells when they form by vapor condensation around soot aggregates. However, some recent studies argue that soot remains fractal even when engulfed by the shells, collapsing only when the shells evaporate. To reconcile this disagreement, the effects of the condensation and …

Jurnal Pendidikan Vokasi
According to Merrill, there are two dimensions of learning objectives: content and performance. For learning to achieve its goals, suitable media is needed. Moreover, the Covid-19 pandemic situation since 2019 requires learning to be distanced. Teachers and students must work together to achieve learning objectives. Several media can support learning, including text formats, audio/video tutorials, interactive multimedia, and simulator software. Especially for Aviation Vocational education which has a learning level guide at CASR 147, further analysis is needed on how these media can effectively achieve learning objectives. So, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of media in distance learning …

The main problem with implementing the minimum competency assessment (Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum or AKM) is the teacher's lack of understanding of AKM. The assessment questions made by the teacher are still limited to testing memory. The level of variation and difficulty of the questions presented is also still low (LOTS), contrary to the government's expectation to improve the quality of learning outcomes which are oriented toward students' higher-order thinking stages (HOTS). This research employed a mixed method. An overview of the teacher's understanding was obtained through questionnaires and interviews, while the description of the quality of the AKM of Integrated …
