The term alternative media refers to media that serves as alternative sources of information in lieu of mainstream media. In contrast to social media, alternative media are mass media entities that carry out journalistic functions even though they are affiliated with community organizations. Thus, alternative media are expected to provide authentic news just like mainstream media in Muslim countries. Islamic alternative media are also required to produce quality news, and this was especially seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, when a flood of information resulted in confusion among the community. In response, training that aimed to enhance journalistic professionalism for practitioners …

An Overview Of The Significance And Application Of Constructability In Value Engineering, Samereh Jadidoleslami, Mojtaba Azizi
CSID Journal of Infrastructure Development
Value Engineering (VE) and constructability are not distinct; instead, they are complementary work processes that may be used as vital elements in achieving total quality. Constructability is a value management (VM) tool developed as an attempt to integrate design and construction activities. VE is often implemented when there is a limited chance to influence the cost and time of the project effectively. Thus, project contractors and owners conduct VE analysis before construction by applying the constructability process. The activities of these two processes somehow complement each other in achieving their goals. Considering the output of existing VE approaches, it seems …

“Pasmado, Kailangan Bang Mangamba?”: Pagdalumat Sa Salitang Pasma Bilang Isang Konseptong Pilipino, Ian Mark Nibalvos

Recent Trends In Mineral Processing Based On Density And Particle Size–A Review, Ahmed Sobhy
Mining Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Most mineral beneficiation development in the world focus on size and density-based separation technologies. In recent years, ore size-based and density-based separation technologies have attracted more consideration to obtaining rough or final high-quality products. Due to the dissimilarity of physical properties like particle size and density, valuable and gangue minerals can be segregated via size-based and density-based separation technologies. Removing the impurities and recovering the target minerals are accomplished by size-based separation technologies alone or are usually followed by cleaning processes utilizing density-based separation abilities. The density variation among valuable and gangue minerals leads to dissimilarities in settling velocity in …
Agenda Control In The Indian Parliament And The Impact On Its Oversight Function – Analysis And Evidence, Maansi Verma
Agenda Control In The Indian Parliament And The Impact On Its Oversight Function – Analysis And Evidence, Maansi Verma
Socio-Legal Review
Separation of powers is understood as the diffusion of powers among different branches of the government, with each branch acting as a check on the other. This principle is considered an anti-thesis to totalitarianism, preventing the absolute concentration of power and thus protecting liberty. The Cabinet-style parliamentary form of government, with its genesis in Britain, fused together the executive with the legislature. This resulted in powerful executives and weakened legislatures with limited oversight capabilities. As institutions evolved over time, internal rules and procedures also evolved both as constraints and enablers of executive dominance, by distributing the powers of agenda control. …
‘Private Acts’ And Structural Inequality: Law And Housing Discrimination, Rowena Robinson
‘Private Acts’ And Structural Inequality: Law And Housing Discrimination, Rowena Robinson
Socio-Legal Review
This paper focuses on law and housing discrimination within the context of a sociological understanding of the cumulative disadvantageous effects of what are legally considered ‘private acts’. It therefore brings a distinct perspective to the examination of vertical versus horizontal rights. The paper particularly focuses on housing discrimination against Muslims in urban areas against the background of marginalisation, conflict, and violence. It seeks to think about housing segregation as both producing discrimination, targeted violence, economic inequality, and social exclusion as well as itself being a product of these factors. Public policy in the form of equal opportunities legislation has been …

Women, Gender Politics, And Resistance In Kashmir, Seema Kazi
Socio-Legal Review
This article focuses on Kashmiri women and the gender politics underpinning the August 5, 2019 revocation of Article 370 in Kashmir. Reclaiming Kashmiri women’s property rights was among the justifications cited by the state for revoking Kashmir’s autonomy. Paradoxically, however, most analyses centered on its political implications. Kashmiri women’s opinions regarding the revocation, the state’s use of the women’s rights argument to justify the same, or Kashmiri women’s rights and experiences in the wake of the revocation were seldom the subjects of discussion or analysis. Beginning with a brief overview of Kashmiri women’s role in the Kashmiri struggle, I juxtapose …

Audit Committee And Internal Control Effectiveness In Public Sector Entities, Cosmas R. Masanja
Business Management Review
This paper reports the findings of a study that examined the audit committee and internal control effectiveness nexus. The study worked on the assertion that the audit committee of the board enhances internal control effectiveness, which is widely documented and supported, more so in the private sector. As a result, many public sector entities ' governing boards are increasingly establishing such audit committees. Yet, it is unclear to what extent such increase in audit committees contribute to public sector entities ' internal control effectiveness, especially in developing economies. This study, therefore, examined the explanatory power of the audit committee ' …

Business Management Review
This study examines the influence of internal audit function competence on the extent of external auditors ' reliance on internal audit function work and whether the internal audit function effectiveness mediates such a relationship. Data was collected from 100 external auditors of the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange-listed companies and analysed using a Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling. The result indicates that internal audit function competence does not affect the external auditors ' reliance on internal audit function work. Nevertheless, the result shows that the competence of internal audit function has a positive effect on the external auditors ' …
Effects Of Interest Rate Ceiling On Sustainability Of Microfinance Institutions: Lessons From Tanzania, Goodluck Charles
Effects Of Interest Rate Ceiling On Sustainability Of Microfinance Institutions: Lessons From Tanzania, Goodluck Charles
Business Management Review
This study explores the effects of an interest rate ceiling on the sustainability of Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). Based on qualitative research which entailed collection of online data from 53 respondents and in-depth face-to-face interviews with 10 MFI practitioners in Tanzania, it is evident that an interest rate ceiling interferes with competitive market forces. Given that MFIs vary in size, operational capacity, customer segment and business model, applying a single blanket interest rate leads to capital and credit diversion, hidden non-interest charges, the emergence of informal lenders and a black market, the withholding of credit from risky markets and the closure …
