Software Protection And Secure Authentication For Autonomous Vehicular Cloud Computing, Muhammad Hataba
Software Protection And Secure Authentication For Autonomous Vehicular Cloud Computing, Muhammad Hataba
Dissertations
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing every technology we deal with. Autonomy has been a sought-after goal in vehicles, and now more than ever we are very close to that goal. Vehicles before were dumb mechanical devices, now they are becoming smart, computerized, and connected coined as Autonomous Vehicles (AVs). Moreover, researchers found a way to make more use of these enormous capabilities and introduced Autonomous Vehicles Cloud Computing (AVCC). In these platforms, vehicles can lend their unused resources and sensory data to join AVCC.
In this dissertation, we investigate security and privacy issues in AVCC. As background, we built our …

The Fourth Amendment And The Problem Of Social Cost, Thomas P. Crocker
The Fourth Amendment And The Problem Of Social Cost, Thomas P. Crocker
Northwestern University Law Review
The Supreme Court has made social cost a core concept relevant to the calculation of Fourth Amendment remedies but has never explained the concept’s meaning. The Court limits the availability of both the exclusionary rule and civil damages because of their “substantial social costs.” According to the Court, these costs primarily consist of letting the lawbreaker go free by excluding evidence or deterring effective police practices that would lead to more criminal apprehension and prosecution. But recent calls for systemic police reform by social movements have a different view of social cost. So too do calls for reforming qualified immunity. …

A Residents’ Lens To Community Wellbeing, Sarah Combs
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Despite its location just a few miles from the burgeoning University of South Florida, the University Area Community (UAC) is considered a severely economically disadvantaged neighborhood. When compared to its surrounding counties, the UAC experiences heightened unemployment and poverty rates in conjunction with a significantly lower median income and rate of homeownership. This study utilized a research method of Narrative Inquiry as told through Qualitative Research to gain a better understanding of the UAC residents’ lived experiences and of how community change agents could succeed in impacting community wellbeing in areas like affordable housing, resident employment, and resident engagement. The …

The Collateral Effects Of Criminal Orders Of Protection On Parent Defendants In Cases Of Intimate Partner Violence, Isabelle Leipziger
The Collateral Effects Of Criminal Orders Of Protection On Parent Defendants In Cases Of Intimate Partner Violence, Isabelle Leipziger
Fordham Law Review
Intimate partner violence is a serious public health problem that affects people from all cultures, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Although courts have historically refused to get involved due to the intimate and private nature of these offenses, widespread reforms have led to some judicial intervention. Through the issuance of criminal orders of protection, courts have alleviated some of the difficulties associated with prosecuting cases of intimate partner violence and have provided immediate protection for victims. However, criminal orders of protection also pose significant challenges for defendants who live and co-parent with their accuser.
In New York, issuance of these orders …

Public Carry Versus Public Health — The Harms To Come From The Supreme Court’S Decision In Bruen, Michael Ulrich
Public Carry Versus Public Health — The Harms To Come From The Supreme Court’S Decision In Bruen, Michael Ulrich
Faculty Scholarship
In June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen that the Second Amendment provides a constitutionally protected right to carry firearms in public. The decision is already creating turmoil in the form of political and public backlash and a scramble by policymakers to find new ways to combat the growing gun-violence epidemic in the United States. The majority opinion in Bruen, written by Justice Clarence Thomas, will have a devastating impact on efforts to mitigate gun violence and address racial disparities, but the reasoning used in the decision could cause even …

Do Open Records Facilitate Criminal Behavior? The Case Of Property Tax Records, Geoffrey Propheter
Do Open Records Facilitate Criminal Behavior? The Case Of Property Tax Records, Geoffrey Propheter
Journal of Public Management & Social Policy
Property tax records are generally public records. In order to improve access to these records and enhance transparency, most local governments have adopted online-based property tax record searches. Anecdotal evidence, however, suggests that online-access to private information allows criminals to more efficiently target their victims. Thus, government officials face the tradeoff of improving transparency at the expense of protecting privacy, and vice versa. It is unclear from existing research if greater transparency in fact facilitates criminal behavior. To test this possibility, property-related crime data were obtained from 150 Georgia counties in 2005 and 2007 and used in a difference-in-difference research …
