Ecospirituality In Forensic Mental Health: A Preliminary Outcome Study, Clark Patrick Heard, Jared Scott, Stephen Yeo
The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy
Background: In this study, the personal experience of spirituality in nature (the concept of ecospirituality) was supported by occupational therapy and spiritual care staff enabling a community-based group for persons affiliated with a forensic mental health system in Ontario, Canada. Spirituality is a key, though debated, tenet in occupational therapy practice. At the same time, immersive participation in nature has been linked to positive health outcomes.
Methods: A qualitative method consistent with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was employed. Data was collected via the completion of semi-structured interviews (n = 9). Collected data was transcribed verbatim and then coded for …
Fabc Theology Of The Laity And Its Relevance For Forming Leaders In Asia’S Local Churches, Charles Bertille
Fabc Theology Of The Laity And Its Relevance For Forming Leaders In Asia’S Local Churches, Charles Bertille
Loyola Papers
This paper examines the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC)’s Theology of the Laity and its relevance for forming leaders in the local Churches of Asia. Grounded in the ecclesiology of the People of God articulated by Second Vatican Council, the study highlights the dignity, charisms, and co-responsibility of the baptized in the Church’s mission. It analyzes how the Institute of Formation–Fondacio (IFF) Asia’s basic formation program embodies the FABC vision of a “new way of being Church” through holistic, communitarian, and missionary formation. The paper argues that empowering the laity through contextual formation fosters discipleship, leadership, and active participation …

The Fabc Vision Of Youth As Evangelizers In Asia, Particularly In The Archdiocese Of Goa, India, Antonetta Pereira
Loyola Papers
This study examines the vision of youth as evangelizers in Asia as articulated by the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC), with particular reference to the pastoral context of the Church in Goa. Grounded in the theological themes of communio ecclesiology, evangelization, and missional participation, the paper argues that young people should be recognized not merely as recipients of pastoral care but as active agents of the Church’s missionary mission. Considering the social and cultural realities affecting Asian youth, the study highlights the importance of accompaniment, formation in mission, and a relevant spirituality. It proposes practical pastoral directions to empower …

Canon 915: The Spirit And Letter Of The Law, Kurt Zion V. Pala
Canon 915: The Spirit And Letter Of The Law, Kurt Zion V. Pala
Loyola Papers
This paper examines Canon 915 by analyzing its juridical meaning, theological foundations, and pastoral implications. It clarifies the canon’s application to those obstinately persisting in manifest grave sin, distinguishing between internal and external forum responsibilities. Drawing from canonical commentaries, Scripture, and magisterial teaching, the study highlights the conditions required for denying Holy Communion and the minister’s duty to avoid scandal while safeguarding the Eucharist’s dignity. At the same time, it underscores the need for pastoral prudence, mercy, and accompaniment, especially in complex situations such as irregular unions. The paper argues for a balanced approach that integrates fidelity to the law …
Philippine Pastoral Implications Of Pope Francis’ Vision Of Youth Evangelization, Edrylle C. Dayrit
Philippine Pastoral Implications Of Pope Francis’ Vision Of Youth Evangelization, Edrylle C. Dayrit
Loyola Papers
The article gathers five key themes from the Pope’s teachings, applies them specifically to youth evangelization, and underlines their pastoral implication: (1) the missionary mode of evangelizing, (2) the agents of youth evangelization, (3) synodality and accompaniment, (4) the culture of encounter, (5) and the joy of the Gospel. Drawing mainly from the seminal document Evangelii Gaudium and the Pope’s Exhortation to and on the Youth, Christus Vivit, the author offers a practical synthesis of the Pontiff’s vision of evangelization - which is not necessarily limited to youth ministry - and identifies its essential features that aim to bring out …

A Life Worth Living: Evaluating And Assisting Army Chaplains In Suicide Prevention, John Simon Cochran
A Life Worth Living: Evaluating And Assisting Army Chaplains In Suicide Prevention, John Simon Cochran
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Despite its efficiency and flexibility as a modern fighting force, the U.S. Army has experienced an alarming spike in the number of its soldiers committing suicide over the past decade – approximately a 20% increase. The goal of this project is to contribute to the lessening of future suicides by evaluating the current preparedness of U.S. Army chaplains to assist with suicide prevention and intervention efforts among U.S. Army soldiers. The study will provide actionable conclusions of how chaplains can more effectively identify, intervene, and influence U.S. Army soldiers away from the risk of suicide towards a life worth living.

“In The Family Spirit”: The University Of Dayton Framework For Lgbtq+ Policies, Practices, And Communication, University Of Dayton. Office Of Diversity And Inclusion
Documents of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion
It is important for the University to formally articulate its philosophy of why and how we support our LGBTQ+ community. Our approach is grounded in our Catholic, Marianist mission – which includes honoring the intrinsic value of all people and fostering a community where all people feel respected as children of God. This rationale stems from our mission as a university where rigorous intellectual inquiry and vigorous dialogue occur.
Currently, at least 15% of the student population at the University of Dayton self-identifies as being members of the LGTBQ+ community, along with numerous faculty, staff, alumni and their family members; …

Christian Mindfulness And Mental Health: Coping Through Sacred Traditions And Embodied Awareness, Veronica L. Timbers, Jennifer C. Hollenberger
Christian Mindfulness And Mental Health: Coping Through Sacred Traditions And Embodied Awareness, Veronica L. Timbers, Jennifer C. Hollenberger
Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations
Mindfulness is increasingly implemented as a tool in mental health practice for coping and self-care. Some Christians worry that these practices might be in conflict with their own tradition, while other Christian contexts are reclaiming the contemplative aspects of the faith. Though clinicians are not trained to teach on religious topics and ethically must avoid pushing religion onto clients, conceptualization and research extend the benefits of mindfulness practices for religious clients. This paper will discuss the evidence for using mindfulness in mental health treatment and connect mindfulness to the Christian tradition. The authors explore how intentional awareness and embodiment of …

International Service Learning: Benefits, Challenges And Experiences Of Pre-Service Teachers, Dianne Chambers, Shane Lavery
Education Papers and Journal Articles
This study explores the experiences and perceptions of 13 Australian early childhood, primary and secondary pre-service teachers who undertook a two-week international service-learning immersion in an educational setting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Qualitative data were collected pre-immersion through an anonymous questionnaire, and post-immersion through reflective journals/reports and focus group interviews. Results suggest that benefits included academic development and cross-cultural learning. Challenges involved language difficulties and coming to terms with the poverty and history of Cambodia. The participants indicated that the immersion was extremely relevant to them, both professionally and personally. Finally, cultural experiences encouraged the participants to generate cultural knowledge …
Metaphors As Tools Of Translation In The Early Medieval English Pedagogical Tradition, Abigayil M. Wernsman
Metaphors As Tools Of Translation In The Early Medieval English Pedagogical Tradition, Abigayil M. Wernsman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation examines three crucial texts written and translated from Latin into Old English between 800CE and 1010CE in medieval England by King Alfred, Bishop Æthelwold, and Abbot Ælfric. These texts are crafted to further political and educational power, reform, and change. It argues that the metaphors wielded within these pedagogical texts were essential to the cultivation of authority for kings and magisters, and the propagation of English as a written language. Utilizing the framework of conceptual metaphor with attention to the historicity surrounding each text, I examine the definitions of metaphor and of translation to argue that each text …
Suicide Prevention For The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, Tiffany M. Manor
Suicide Prevention For The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, Tiffany M. Manor
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem that this research addressed is the lack of a Lutheran training framework for suicide prevention in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) in which ministers learn to identify and respond to congregants and colleagues who have suicidal thoughts and wish to die. In response to the problem, this research began with a theological study of three biblical characters (Elijah, Job, and Jonah) that expressed a wish to die. Following the theological study, the researcher reviewed current literature on existing suicide prevention models, best practices for suicide prevention, and pastoral care for people who have suicidal thoughts. The …
