Taking A Strategic Approach To Care In The Local Church Using The Caring Church Model, Sharon Larkin
Taking A Strategic Approach To Care In The Local Church Using The Caring Church Model, Sharon Larkin
Doctor of Ministry Projects and Theses
ABSTRACT
This project was created based on my personal and professional experience of being appointed at a local church that did not have a “care strategy.” There was no documentation of processes and procedures, ministries were not functioning well, and some ministries were inactive. This type of scenario can be critical at a time when 6000 to 10,000 churches are being closed every year[1] and when church attendance and overall growth is declining[2]. It is important to be intentional and strategic when caring for a congregation. Taking a strategic approach, the Caring Church Model was created in …

ABSTRACT
The numbers are staggering and shocking. The United States of America leads all nations in having more people incarcerated in its federal and state prisons, jails, and detention centers. This thesis project is the lived experience of having had a ringside seat of human depravity and the effects of mass incarceration. Over the past 30 years, I have been on the front lines serving the inside behind the impenetrable menacing walls of our nation’s federal prison system Department of Justice Federal Bureau Prison (DOJ-FBOP), State prison system in Texas (TDCJ) as well as inside of a Naval Brig doing …
Emotional Injury: The Hidden Cost Of Workplace Violence, Susan Cusack, Meagan Cleary
Emotional Injury: The Hidden Cost Of Workplace Violence, Susan Cusack, Meagan Cleary
Nursing
Background Review
Workplace violence (WPV) is a common, increasing experience in healthcare. Verbal violence is the most common type and is typically considered “not that big of a deal” or “minor” (Hahn et al. 2008, Magnavita 2014). However, verbal violence and harassment are extremely destructive to team member morale and productivity, leading to burnout and aggression in the victim (Brophy et al. 2017, Miller 2008, Phillips 2016).
Purpose
The workplace violence committee (WPVC) at a 750+ bed, Level 1 trauma center on the south side of Chicago aimed to quantify the number of verbal incidents and their consequences to inform …

Improving Access To Non-Pharmacologic Integrative Pain Management Modalities In Sickle Cell Disease (Scd) Inpatients, Nicole Lincoln
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
Background: Evidence suggests that non-pharmacologic therapies complement and work synergistically alongside traditional pharmacologic therapies for chronic pain and have a beneficial impact on the intensity of pain, improved quality of life and functional status. Sickle Cell Patients have complex pain and often feel stigmatized due to pain seeking behaviors. This project evaluates the effect of a clinical initiative stewarded by nurses and managed in the electronic health record. The project aims to improve access to preferred modalities for integrative pain management among hospitalized Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) inpatients.
Methods: The nurses received e-learning and in-person training on the use of …

Examining The Effect Of Social Emotional Learning On Student Perceptions Of The Safety And Comfortability In The Theatre Classroom, Emily Wooten
Masters of Education in Teaching and Learning
This study examined the effects of social emotional learning (SEL) on student perceptions of safety and comfortability in the theatre classroom. The researcher implemented SEL lessons using a morning meeting/class meeting format. Data was collected using a pre-survey, field notes, and focus group interviews. Data was analyzed using the constant comparative method to look for recurring themes to use for poetic transcription. Four primary codes, entitled “Will You Please Join Us?,” “Friend or Foe?,” “Climbing the Mountain of Anxiety,” and “The Love of Theatre” were used to create their own unique poem demonstrating the thoughts and emotions of the students …
John Crophill: A Trustworthy Man In Fifteenth-Century Rural England (Gms Essay Prize Article), Rehan Shah
John Crophill: A Trustworthy Man In Fifteenth-Century Rural England (Gms Essay Prize Article), Rehan Shah
Medieval Feminist Forum: A Journal of Gender and Sexuality
This paper explores the role of trust and trustworthiness in the masculine gender identity of the fifteenth-century bailiff and medical practitioner John Crophill (d. c. 1485) who resided in Wix, Essex. Drawing on evidence from his personal notebook, the work argues that Crophill was aware of the need to construct his trustworthy reputation, a requirement enacted via his own interaction with other individuals. A consideration of three separate elements of his persona (party host, craft master, and probable involvement with childbirth) provide a structure for the paper, as Crophill seemingly negotiates his own relationships with both male and female individuals, …

A Burning Issue: A Quantitative Correlation Study On Students’ Overinvolvement In Cocurricular Activities Contributing To Burnout, Shelby Robbins
A Burning Issue: A Quantitative Correlation Study On Students’ Overinvolvement In Cocurricular Activities Contributing To Burnout, Shelby Robbins
Master of Arts in Higher Education (MAHE) Theses
Cocurricular involvement plays a large part in the holistic college experience. However, too much involvement in cocurricular activities may lead students to experience burnout over the course of their four years in college. The quantitative correlation study investigated students’ overinvolvement in cocurricular activities through the Cocurricular Involvement and Burnout Survey. Participants were students who were involved in said activities at a private, faith-based, liberal arts institution located in the Midwest. The research question that guided the study was: To what extent, if any, does overinvolvement in cocurricular activities contribute to burnout for college students at a four-year institution? The results …

The Spiritual Care Protocol: Developing Informed Responses To End-Of-Life Concerns, Gabriel Fisher
Doctor of Ministry Theses and Dissertations
This thesis addresses the understanding and practice of spiritual care in a nonprofit hospice. The identified problem this project seeks to resolve is a lack of a protocol to continually assess the spiritual concerns of patients and families on service with this organization. The purpose of this project intervention is to develop a protocol document that assesses spiritual concerns and helps members of an interdisciplinary team offer more informed responses to spiritual care needs. The project has multiple intents in that it will also help address a gap in organizational awareness and seek to enhance current care practices and understandings. …

Responses To The Incarceration Of Nikkei Among Churches Of Christ In America, Joel Childers
Responses To The Incarceration Of Nikkei Among Churches Of Christ In America, Joel Childers
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
During World War II (WWII), the United States of America relocated and incarcerated thousands of people of Japanese descent, also known as Nikkei, living in the
western United States. Some of these incarcerated Nikkei were Japanese nationals, but the majority were American citizens. Most white Americans said and did very little to oppose the incarceration or to aid incarcerated Nikkei, and American Christians were no exception. This study examines how one Christian group, Churches of Christ, responded to the incarceration in light of this group’s theological character.
While the responses of members of Churches of Christ to the incarceration are …

The Stressors Black Pastors Experience : A Counseling Perspective, Robert C. Rogers
The Stressors Black Pastors Experience : A Counseling Perspective, Robert C. Rogers
Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects
Researchers have described the clergy profession as one of several occupations for which stress exists as an integral part of their job, which can impact their well-being. The research has investigated this topic of pastoral stress from a color-blind, etic perspective without regard to the multicultural factors of racial identity and ethnicity. While Black pastors exist as a major subset of clergy nationwide, the exploration of stressors Black pastors experience and the relationship between their specific vocational stressors and wellness has been rarely studied. This study seeks to fill the gaps in the literature by targeting Black pastors from historically …

Creation Care, Human Wellness, And Sustainability, Omoike Eric Aizenofe
Creation Care, Human Wellness, And Sustainability, Omoike Eric Aizenofe
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis, I argue that creation care contributes to human wellness and to sustainable living on earth. Within contemporary contexts, humans are suffering spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. This distress impairs wellness and reduces peoples’ capacity to contribute to sustainable solutions and earth-positive impacts. Creation care entails conscious and intentional activities that are carried out for the health of the created world. Creation care contributes to human wellness, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally by offering spaces, environments, co-habitations, and interdependency among its components that support human wellness and sustainable living. Creation care helps fight spiritual, mental, and emotional distress so that …
