Dcn Dissertation Proposal: The Impact Of A Pediatric Interdisciplinary Outpatient Feeding Clinic On Preterm Infant Weight Gain And Caregiver Compliance With Feeding Recommendations, Doretta Leung
Dean's Leadership Council Library Research Prize
Early nutrition intervention along with interdisciplinary care is important for premature infants because malnutrition often leads to poor growth in this population.1,2 Poor growth in preterm infants results in subsequent neurocognitive development as there is an association between deficient postnatal growth and poor neurologic outcome up to age 19.1,2 It is important to focus on an infant’s nutrition, feeding, and any gastroenterology concerns after hospital discharge to prevent poor growth. Most importantly, it is essential to have an interdisciplinary care monitoring infant care and outcomes in an outpatient setting; however, this service is lacking in Northeast Florida. The newly developed …

The Effect Of Medicaid On Recidivism: Evidence From Medicaid Suspension And Termination Policies, Gultekin Gollu, Mariyana Zapryanova
Economics: Faculty Publications
Although people who go through the prison and jail system in the United States have significant health care needs, many leave it with no health insurance and, as a result, they experience gaps in access to care. Exploiting variation in Medicaid eligibility policies for incarcerated individuals across states and using administrative prison release data, we find that suspending rather than terminating Medicaid upon incarceration decreases the probability of returning to prison within 1 and 3 years of release by 2.91 and 4.58 percentage points, respectively. These effects are observed among different types of prisoners, but are greater for Black and …

Although poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) has certain mechanical drawbacks such as a weak barrier, it has widely been used in food packaging over the last many years. To increase the suitability of PVA (C2H4O)n and render it ideal for food packaging, a diversity of studies have already been carried out. In the below-mentioned script, we, for the first time, report the use of natural product osthol in making a new composite with PVA for enhancing thermal, physicochemical, and antimicrobial properties. The significant aim of the report is the insertion of osthol (C15H16O3 …

Teacher delivered food and nutrition education (FNE) can be effective in improving children’s food literacy and eating habits. However, teachers are known to face some barriers to the delivery of FNE globally. To obtain a deeper understanding of Australian primary school teachers’ experiences and views, 17 teachers were interviewed. The results of the thematic analysis showed that teachers acknowledged the importance of FNE and were willing to include more FNE content into their teaching. We also identified the FNE topics taught, resources used, their teaching partners, and barriers encountered. The discussion presents strategies to overcome these barriers.

The impact of Fe2+ (iron)toxicity on genomic instability, DNA methylation status, and Long Terminal Repeat Retrotransposons (LTR RTs) polymorphisms on Zea mays is unknown. We investigated the toxicity of Fe2+ using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD), Coupled Restriction Enzyme Digestion-Random Amplification (CRED-RA) and Inter Retrotransposon Amplified Polymorphism (IRAP) assays in Zea mays seedlings, respectively. The results indicated that each dose of FeSO4 (50, 100, 200, and 300 mg/L) had a reducing effect on Genomic Template Stability (GTS) and increasing in RAPD pattern changes (DNA damage). The value of DNA methylation rised gradually depending on FeSO4 doses. Moreover, five LTR RTs …
