Achieving The Sdgs Targets: Women’S Autonomy And The Continuum Of Maternal And Child Health Services Utilization In Indonesia Using Idhs 2017, Izzun Nafiah, Omas B. Samosir, Prani Sastiono
Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development
A reduction of child and maternal mortality is among the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely the third goal. An important determinant of child and maternal mortality risk is the utilization of maternal and child health (MCH). This study aims to analyze the relationship between women's autonomy and the continuum of MCH services utilization in Indonesia using IDHS 2017. The unit of analysis was women of childbearing age who were married or living together, gave birth to at least one child in the five years before the survey, and had the last child aged 1 to 3 years, …

This project aims to share the experience of a South Korean immigrant woman in the United States in her journey of adopting a White embryo through the medium of a photographic essay. In doing so, the objective is to explore how the changing ethnoscape of the world and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) is bringing the world together, the ways in which it has created a provision for an inversion of adoption norms simultaneously enabling mother-child bonding experiences from conception to childbirth, which is largely lacking in traditional methods of adoption. Although there are benefits and possibilities created via ART, any …

Mondia whitei, also known as Mondia, is an aromatic plant of Apocynaceae family. It is used as aphrodisiac, antidepressant, fertility medication and to improve appetite. The present study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical and antibacterial properties of the plant. The chloroform extract of M. whitei was screened for its antibacterial effects using agar diffusion method against five bacterial strains (Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Salmonella typhi). The extract was active against S. typhi, K. pneumoniae and S. aureus at 400, 400 and 200 mg/mL, respectively. The antibacterial activity of the extract was observed in a dose-dependent …

Tanzania Journal of Science
Epidemiologic studies have shown strong correlations between Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes mellitus. The exact mechanism through which this happens remains unclear. However, the dependence on glucose for brain function has been proposed as one possible mechanism. Hence, this study investigated the neuroprotective potential of Chrysophyllum albidum fruit pulp (CAPP) with hypoglycaemic properties in diabetic rats induced with high-fat diet/streptozotocin (STZ). The animals were grouped into seven units as follows: control, STZ-induced, STZ + metformin (positive control), STZ + 5% CAPP, STZ + 10% CAPP, control + 5% CAPP and control + 10% CAPP and each group was made up of …

Livestock In Pakistan: An Insight Into Climate Changes And Impacts, Muhammad Jamil, Iram Shakeel, Habib Ullah, Mukhtar Ahmad, Saeed Ullah, Iffat Rasool, Muhammad Tahir, Jaweria Gull, Norina Jabeen, Mubarik Ali
Journal of Bioresource Management
The global livestock sector is expanding at a faster rate than any other agricultural sub-sector. It employs approximately 1.3 billion people and accounts for approximately 40 % of global agricultural output. This industry is one of the most damaging sectors to the world's increasingly scarce water resources, contributing to water pollution from animal wastes, hormones, antibiotics, chemicals from tanneries, pesticides, and fertilizers used to spray feed crop. Climate change harms livestock productivity by changing ecosystem services i.e. water availability, forage quality and quantity, diseases outbreak, and animals stress due to heat shock and reduction of livestock diversity and breeds. Ecosystem …

Diagnosis And Treatment Of Stroke-Related Sarcopenia: A Narrative Reviewarticle, Szu-Han Chen, Tieh-Cheng Fu
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Stroke patients have a high prevalence of sarcopenia due to the presence of several risk factors, including immobilization, impaired feeding, sympathetic activation, inflammation, and denervation. The occurrence of sarcopenia further exacerbates the disability caused by the stroke. Thus, appropriate diagnosis and intervention for sarcopenia is an important health issue for the stroke population. The article discusses the dilemma in diagnostic tests and potential treatment for stroke-related sarcopenia based on the currently available literature evidence.

Effectiveness And Predictors Of Home-Based Postacute Stroke Care, Yuan-Ting Lo, Wen-Chih Lin, Lin-Fu Lee, Willy Chou
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Introduction: Stroke is the leading cause of disability in adults. In 2014, Taiwan's National Health Insurance Administration started to provide inpatient postacute care, and the results indicated that this model improves the overall functional status of patients with stroke. In 2017, home-based postacute stroke care was initiated; however, no study has evaluated its effectiveness. Therefore, we explored the functional recovery of patients with stroke after 6 weeks of postacute care at home and the factors that influenced their functional improvement. Method: We recruited patients with stroke who received a score of 3 or 4 on the modified Rankin Scale between …

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Transmission of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was first identified in 2019 and rapidly evolved into the global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The emergence of a highly morbid disease has posed ongoing challenges in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of COVID-19. The uncertainty underlying medical decision making is further compounded by preexisting conditions, including pregnancy. Here, we report a twin pregnancy complicated by maternal COVID-19 and the vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2. We hope that our experiences contribute to a better understanding of the disease in pregnancy and, ultimately, guide the development of effective treatment and prevention …
