A Qualitative Investigation Into The Academic Advisors’ Perceptions Of Best Advisement Practices, Tracy Crowder Mitchell
Theses and Dissertations
This study aimed to better understand academic advising by examining the perspectives of academic advisors at a Georgia Research 1 institution located in a large city. Initially, the purpose of this case study was to learn more about how academic advisors view effective strategies for boosting their students' performance. Nine academic advisors from a multi-campus institution in the southeastern United States were interviewed for this qualitative study. The participants were asked to complete 30 to 60-minute interviews with the researcher. By evaluating the personal responses used throughout the study, the researcher could identify frequent themes during data collection and analysis. …

Iris Nursing Strong Program: Benchmark Study, Sonia Bunyard, Keviesha Lacy
MSN Capstone Projects
The change project we are presenting is the IRIS-Nursing Strong program. IRIS stands for: Increasing, Reason & Relaxation, Implementation, Strategies all aimed to prevent nursing burnout. The Iris flower symbolizes hope and strength as nurses are healthcare providers who constantly provide that hope and strength to their patients. We plan to develop this program in the workplace to infuse that hope and strength back into the nurses who spend so much time taking care of others. The goal is to offer a non-judgmental environment, recognize early signs of distress in ourselves and our peers, provide …

Place, Race, Gender And Materiality: Bisa Butler Making The Last, First And The First, Last In The Modern Museum, Charles Peterson, A. W. Eaton
Contemporary Aesthetics (Journal Archive)
Bisa Butler is a contemporary artist who creates stunning portraits composed entirely of textiles. In this article, we argue that one significant aspect of Butler’s oeuvre is the way that she deeply entwines the ethico-political and the aesthetic in a beautiful symbiotic partnership. Through a careful examination of her work, her technique, her artistic and museum contexts, and the unknown African American subjects she celebrates, we argue that Butler’s work should be understood as liberatory artistic practice that disrupts hegemonic spaces and ideologies.

Building A Mentor-Mentee Maturity Model, Leroy A. Alexander
Building A Mentor-Mentee Maturity Model, Leroy A. Alexander
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In an exploratory, qualitative, traditional dissertation, this study proposes a framework for mentoring within federal government contractor firms. It seeks to understand how government contract firms draw value from their mentorship experiences and which aspects of mentorship programs are more important for this market segment. Two key issues have been identified: (1) government contractor firms are applying incompatible mentorship frameworks; and (2) managers responsible for developing their organizations’ capabilities through the implementation of mentoring programs are unaware of the characteristics unique to work groups within their firms. Observance of a federal government contractor firm struggling to implement a mentorship program, …

Algorithmic Governance From The Bottom Up, Hannah Bloch-Wehba
Algorithmic Governance From The Bottom Up, Hannah Bloch-Wehba
BYU Law Review
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are both a blessing and a curse for governance. In theory, algorithmic governance makes government more efficient, more accurate, and more fair. But the emergence of automation in governance also rests on public-private collaborations that expand both public and private power, aggravate transparency and accountability gaps, and create significant obstacles for those seeking algorithmic justice. In response, a nascent body of law proposes technocratic policy changes to foster algorithmic accountability, ethics, and transparency.
This Article examines an alternative vision of algorithmic governance, one advanced primarily by social and labor movements instead of technocrats and firms. …
Psychosocial Care After Cancer Diagnosis: Recent Advances And Challenges, Laura Tack, Patricia Schofield, Tom Boterberg, Rebecca Chandler, Christopher N. Parris, Philip R. Debruyne
Psychosocial Care After Cancer Diagnosis: Recent Advances And Challenges, Laura Tack, Patricia Schofield, Tom Boterberg, Rebecca Chandler, Christopher N. Parris, Philip R. Debruyne
School of Nursing and Midwifery
Psychosocial oncology is coming of age. While the survival rates of cancer patients have increased, many patients suffer from treatment-related long-lasting effects that may adversely affect their mental health and health-related quality of life. Along with the changes in therapeutic strategies, physicians should pay more attention to the psychosocial problems secondary to cancer as it is well recognized that the diagnosis of cancer and its treatment can be extremely stressful and emotional for cancer patients. Psychosocial oncology refers to the multidisciplinary subdiscipline of cancer care that was created to improve patients’ mental well-being by offering strategies to help them cope …
Corporate Response To The War In Ukraine: Stakeholder Governance Or Stakeholder Pressure?, Anete Pajuste, Anna Toniolo
Corporate Response To The War In Ukraine: Stakeholder Governance Or Stakeholder Pressure?, Anete Pajuste, Anna Toniolo
Emory Business Law Review
This Article empirically investigates the corporate response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the framework of the stakeholder capitalism debate. Some describe corporate leaders’ decision to withdraw from Russia as an example of stakeholder governance, maintaining that they placed social responsibility over profits. Others question the authenticity of corporate support for Ukraine and argue that companies left Russia mainly driven by operational and reputational concerns.
Against this backdrop, we conduct an empirical study of reactions to the outbreak of the war from companies in the S&P500 and STOXX600 indices. We explore whether managers effectively decided mostly on ethical and …

Drawing on Ossi Naukkarinen’s analysis of the meaning of “contemporary aesthetics,” this article considers several layers of meaning that make the title of this journal appropriate to its mission. After two decades, the journal is doing much to fulfill the promise of its name.
Decoloniality, Identity, And Aesthetic Publicity, Monique Roelofs
Decoloniality, Identity, And Aesthetic Publicity, Monique Roelofs
Contemporary Aesthetics (Journal Archive)
This essay explores how the decolonial practices of Latina poet Alicia Borinsky in Frivolous Women and Other Sinners(2009) and British filmmaker and installation artist Isaac Julien in Lessons of the Hour (2019) occasion open-ended conceptions of the public that engage economic and technological developments in tandem with questions of individual encounters, objects, and values. Their figurations point beyond the domain of aesthesis to a view of aesthetic publicity on which unprecedented social identities emerge through interactions among multiple, often mutually opposed platforms and assemblies. The essay offers working definitions of aesthetic publicity and decolonial aesthetics and continues by scrutinizing …
Reshaping Aesthetics And Aesthetic Sensibility In A Hybrid Environment, Aleksandra Łukaszewicz, Jakub Petri
Reshaping Aesthetics And Aesthetic Sensibility In A Hybrid Environment, Aleksandra Łukaszewicz, Jakub Petri
Contemporary Aesthetics (Journal Archive)
The contemporary environment in developed countries is highly urbanized and technologized. It is not only physical but also virtual, created with the use of cyber-techniques and the internet. The two layers of the environment are: the physical places, persons, objects, etc., and the virtual – electronically-emerged places, persons, and objects, etc. Therefore, it is correct to overcome the enforced conceptual dualism between what is virtual and what is physical, as proposed by Michal Ostrowicki (aka Sidey Myoo) in calling for the recognition of the hybrid status of reality, by pointing to symbiosis within the context of lived experience. This raises …
A Big Disenchantment, Wolfgang Welsch
A Big Disenchantment, Wolfgang Welsch
Contemporary Aesthetics (Journal Archive)
For millennia, aesthetic activities were expected to improve the world and ourselves. Aesthetics was to hone humanity. We find this conviction in Antiquity, in the Middle Ages, in the Renaissance, and throughout Modern Times and Modernity, from Plato via Leonardo da Vinci and Schiller to Dewey and Rorty. But this expectation is being harshly falsified in the present time. We are indeed aestheticizing everything through and through. But in the vast majority of cases, the result is not aesthetic improvement but mediocrity and monotony. Aestheticization today is an engine of misery. The discipline of aesthetics should resolutely criticize and counter …

Glorification Of Serial Killers: How The Law Fails To Protect Families Of The Victims, Ksenia Khlystova-Gowda
Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal (AELJ) Blog
Serial killers have always caused controversy. They have been talked about, feared, studied, and after their deaths, they have been remembered and memorialized in various forms of art. In pursuit of success and fame, movie and documentary directors attempt to promote their own narratives while depicting the gruesome and hideous murders and crimes of these killers. However, it appears that few consider the pain and suffering these “art forms” cause the families of serial killer victims. Almost every year, there are new media productions that put serial killers in the spotlight and depict their victims as sacrificial plot elements that …
Jewish Fraternities And Sororities As Spaces Of Resistance Against Antisemitism, Pietro Antonio Sasso, Kimberly Davis
Jewish Fraternities And Sororities As Spaces Of Resistance Against Antisemitism, Pietro Antonio Sasso, Kimberly Davis
Journal of Higher Education & Student Affairs
There has been a continued increase in antisemitic activities at colleges and universities over the last decade. Media reports and research about perceptions of Jewish college students add face validity that student organizations are often targets of Anti-Jewish rhetoric. In particular, Jewish fraternities and sororities have been targeted by antisemitism as sites of violence but have also been spaces of resistance. Through a literature review of Jewish fraternities and sororities, the authors present their organizational saga to demonstrate a pattern of exclusion and antisemitism and summarize current initiatives by Jewish fraternities and sororities as spaces of resistance in combating antisemitism.

Predicting Assistive Technology Self-Efficacy In Teachers Of Students With Visual Impairments, Allen Huang
Predicting Assistive Technology Self-Efficacy In Teachers Of Students With Visual Impairments, Allen Huang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Students who are blind and visually impaired can use assistive technology (AT) improve their access to the educational environment. Mastering the use of AT is a crucial part of developing long-term independence and productivity in academic, vocational, and leisure settings. However, teachers of students with visual impairments (TVIs) report poor self-efficacy for teaching and supporting the use of AT. TVIs with low assistive technology self-efficacy (ATSE) may be less likely to use AT with their students, teach and support AT effectively, and persist through difficult experiences with students’ AT. Subsequently, students are at risk of not being exposed to AT …
Improvements In Digital Holographic Microscopy, Raul Andres Castaneda Quintero
Improvements In Digital Holographic Microscopy, Raul Andres Castaneda Quintero
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The Ph.D. dissertation consists of developing a series of innovative computational methods for improving digital holographic microscopy (DHM). DHM systems are widely used in quantitative phase imaging for studying micrometer-size biological and non-biological samples. As any imaging technique, DHM systems have limitations that reduce their applicability. Current limitations in DHM systems are: i) the number of holograms (more than three holograms) required in slightly off-axis DHM systems to reconstruct the object phase information without applying complex computational algorithms; ii) the lack of an automatic and robust computation algorithm to compensate for the interference angle and reconstruct the object phase information …

El Llano: The Making And Remaking Of A Mexican Homeland On The Southwest-Great Plains Borderlands, Joel Zapata, Latin American And Iberian Institute
LAII Events
The United States’ Mexican population has come to the forefront of public and academic exchanges amidst
the past two presidential campaigns and ensuing political debates regarding immigration policy and border
security. Yet, these discussions consistently neglect Mexicans’ long-term history in what is now the United
States, along with their enduring social influence throughout the nation. A prime example of this neglected
history is the ethnic Mexican past of the Southern Great Plains, a vast transregional grassland larger than
California that stretches from southeastern Colorado and southwestern Kansas, down across eastern New
Mexico and western Oklahoma to central Texas.

Oxidative Stress Strongly Restricts The Effect Of Codon Choice On The Efficiency Of Protein Synthesis In Escherichia Coli, Lorenzo Eugenio Leiva, Sara Elgamal, Sebastian A. Leidel, Omar Orellana, Michael Ibba, Assaf Katz
Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research
Introduction
The response of enterobacteria to oxidative stress is usually considered to be regulated by transcription factors such as OxyR and SoxR. Nevertheless, several reports have shown that under oxidative stress the levels, modification and aminoacylation of tRNAs may be altered suggesting a role of codon bias in regulation of gene expression under this condition.
Methods
In order to characterize the effects of oxidative stress on translation elongation we constructed a library of 61 plasmids, each coding for the green fluorescent protein (GFP) translationally fused to a different set of four identical codons.
Results
Using these reporters, we observed that …
Targeted Therapeutics And Novel Signaling Pathways In Non-Alcohol-Associated Fatty Liver/Steatohepatitis (Nafl/Nash)
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
The C-terminal domain (CTD) of the major endoribonuclease RNase E not only serves as a scaffold for the central RNA decay machinery in gram-negative bacteria but also mediates coupled degradation of small regulatory RNAs (sRNAs) and their cognate target transcripts following RNA chaperone Hfq-facilitated sRNA-mRNA base pairing. Despite the crucial role of RNase E CTD in sRNA-dependent gene regulation, the contribution of particular residues within this domain in recruiting sRNAs and mRNAs upon base pairing remains unknown. We have previously shown that in Escherichia coli, the highly conserved 3'-5'-exoribonuclease polynucleotide phosphorylase (PNPase) paradoxically stabilizes sRNAs by limiting access of …

Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences
Ionic liquids (ILs) defined as organic salts that produced from combination of organic cation with various types of organic/inorganic anions whose melting point less than 100°C. Because of their ionic character, most of ionic liquids exhibit useful properties such as no volatility, recyclability, good thermal stability, high conductivity and chemical stability. Ionic liquid cation - anion combinations permits the solvents to be prepared such as N, N-dialkylimidazolium as cation and acetate as anion. Ionic liquid was utilized as solvents or preparation components in various areas of drug delivery systems, also as novel liquid forms of APIs in various stages of …
