Callimachus, Cyrene, And The Carneia: Social Solidarity In The Hymn To Apollo, Nicholas D. Cross
Callimachus, Cyrene, And The Carneia: Social Solidarity In The Hymn To Apollo, Nicholas D. Cross
New England Classical Journal
Callimachus’ Hymn to Apollo has been subject to multiple interpretations. Few, however, have recognized the social value of the hymn for the Cyreneans. This article proposes that the hymn’s two descriptions of the Carneia festival in Cyrene (the inaugural one at the city’s founding and the one in the time of Callimachus) shed light on the poet’s intentions for the work. His depictions highlight how the Carneia fostered the social integration of Apollo’s community. Callimachus’ hymn, therefore, like a festival, encouraged his contemporary Cyreneans to appreciate the social solidarity they experienced during the reign of Magas.
Aeroacoustic Analyses For Noise Reduction Application, Mahmoud M. Abdalmola
Aeroacoustic Analyses For Noise Reduction Application, Mahmoud M. Abdalmola
Mechanical Engineering Theses
In this study, we examine the hypothesis that airflow noise can be reduced by adding metamaterials. The introduction of any obstacle will generate more disturbance in the airflow and therefore add noise. Hence an efficient metamaterial design is required, capable of reducing noise even at higher flow disturbance. In order to examine this hypothesis, we developed a platform to perform isogeometric aeroacoustic analyses to solve Navier stokes equations first. We obtained the velocity fields from fluid-structure analyses and utilized the light-hill analogy to calculate the noise generated as a result of airflow. Then the Helmholtz equation was solved to perform …
Electronic, Redox, And Optical Property Prediction Of Organic Π-Conjugated Molecules Through A Hierarchy Of Machine Learning Approaches, Vinayak Bhat, Parker Sornberger, Balaji Sesha Sarath Pokuri, Rebekah Duke, Baskar Ganapathysubramanian, Chad Risko
Electronic, Redox, And Optical Property Prediction Of Organic Π-Conjugated Molecules Through A Hierarchy Of Machine Learning Approaches, Vinayak Bhat, Parker Sornberger, Balaji Sesha Sarath Pokuri, Rebekah Duke, Baskar Ganapathysubramanian, Chad Risko
Chemistry Faculty Publications
Accelerating the development of π-conjugated molecules for applications such as energy generation and storage, catalysis, sensing, pharmaceuticals, and (semi)conducting technologies requires rapid and accurate evaluation of the electronic, redox, or optical properties. While high-throughput computational screening has proven to be a tremendous aid in this regard, machine learning (ML) and other data-driven methods can further enable orders of magnitude reduction in time while at the same time providing dramatic increases in the chemical space that is explored. However, the lack of benchmark datasets containing the electronic, redox, and optical properties that characterize the diverse, known chemical space of organic π-conjugated …

Early Childhood Education: A Hermeneutic Phenomenology Study Of Male Staff Retention, Justine Louise Flint
Early Childhood Education: A Hermeneutic Phenomenology Study Of Male Staff Retention, Justine Louise Flint
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative hermeneutic phenomenology study was to describe the lived experiences of male early childhood teachers in the northeast region of the United States (US). The theory guiding this study was Victor Vroom’s expectancy theory of motivation. Vroom’s theory explains the behavioral process of why individuals choose one behavior over another or one career over another. The central research question in this study addressed the male early childhood teachers’ experiences working in the early childhood education (ECE) career field and motivation to remain in the ECE career field. This study highlighted ECE challenges and goals from the …
Barriers In Motivation To Pursue A Stem Career Among Students From Low Socioeconomic Backgrounds: A Transcendental Phenomenological Study, Daniel Khanh Lieu
Barriers In Motivation To Pursue A Stem Career Among Students From Low Socioeconomic Backgrounds: A Transcendental Phenomenological Study, Daniel Khanh Lieu
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe the lived experiences of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds that chose to pursue a career in STEM at STEM High School. For the purposes of this study, students from low socioeconomic backgrounds were generally defined as students that qualify for the free and reduced lunch program and STEM careers would be generally defined as any careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. The theory that guided this study was Vroom’s expectancy-value theory, which discusses how the individual perceived the outcome to occur (expectancy) and the worth of the outcome on …
Teachers’ Experiences On Adaptations To Instructional Practices On The Transition To The Common Core State Standards: A Phenomenological Study, Elsie Fabiola Riveiro Torres
Teachers’ Experiences On Adaptations To Instructional Practices On The Transition To The Common Core State Standards: A Phenomenological Study, Elsie Fabiola Riveiro Torres
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenology study was to discover the experiences that elementary teachers have had regarding changes or adaptations to their instructional practices in the transition to the implementation to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The central research question that guided the study was based on the purpose of the study: What are the experiences that elementary teachers have had regarding changes or adaptations to their instructional practices in the transition to the implementation to the CCSS? Transcendental phenomenology was the methodological approach in this investigation because the goal was to describe the meanings of the experiences …
A Hermeneutic Exploration Of The Meaning Of School Counseling For Undocumented Students Attempting To Receive Equitable College Access, Victoria Lauren Landi
A Hermeneutic Exploration Of The Meaning Of School Counseling For Undocumented Students Attempting To Receive Equitable College Access, Victoria Lauren Landi
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This phenomenological study examines what school counseling means to undocumented students attempting equitable college access. Critical Race Theory is the theoretical basis guiding this study. Much literature on undocumented youth and educational attainment suggests undocumented youth are not receiving an equitable public education and continue falling further into society's margins. However, research has not yet captured how undocumented youth experience college access from their school counselors. The gap in the research elucidates the research questions that drove this study regarding how undocumented students explain the meaning of equitable college access from their interactions with school counselors and how undocumented youth …
A Phenomenological Study Of Secondary Teachers’ Experiences With A Mandated Transition To And From Synchronous Online Instruction, Susan P. Lyman
A Phenomenological Study Of Secondary Teachers’ Experiences With A Mandated Transition To And From Synchronous Online Instruction, Susan P. Lyman
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand secondary teachers’ experiences with an unexpected transition between in-person teaching and virtual modalities for secondary educators in New York public schools. The theory that guided this study was Schlossberg’s transition theory which provided a lens through which to understand the shared experiences of making an unplanned transition from face-to-face teaching to online platforms. The study was qualitative and followed a phenomenological research design. The setting for this study was multiple public school districts in Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island, New York. The sample was 10 secondary public school teachers …
