Abstract
Reading is an intellectual process that everyone for doing it, need to motivation, so that they can interrelate with the concepts of the texts that they read. Reading is the agent of wisdom and knowledge. Today is the age of information. Information is power. People who have internal motivation for reading information resources, are those who have information and change it to knowledge and knowledge is the power of readers who have internal motivation. The aim of present research is to analyze world scientific studies on reading motivation based on Scientometric and benchmarks of centrality in articles of web …

Docee: A Large-Scale And Fine-Grained Benchmark For Document-Level Event Extraction, Meihan Tong, Bin Xu, Shuai Wang, Meihuan Han, Yixin Cao, Jiangqi Zhu, Siyu Chen, Lei Hou, Juanzi Li
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Event extraction aims to identify an event and then extract the arguments participating in the event. Despite the great success in sentencelevel event extraction, events are more naturally presented in the form of documents, with event arguments scattered in multiple sentences. However, a major barrier to promote documentlevel event extraction has been the lack of large-scale and practical training and evaluation datasets. In this paper, we present DocEE, a new document-level event extraction dataset including 27,000+ events, 180,000+ arguments. We highlight three features: largescale manual annotations, fine-grained argument types and application-oriented settings. Experiments show that there is still a big …
Early Rumor Detection Using Neural Hawkes Process With A New Benchmark Dataset, Fengzhu Zeng, Wei Gao
Early Rumor Detection Using Neural Hawkes Process With A New Benchmark Dataset, Fengzhu Zeng, Wei Gao
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Little attention has been paid on EArly Rumor Detection (EARD), and EARD performance was evaluated inappropriately on a few datasets where the actual early-stage information is largely missing. To reverse such situation, we construct BEARD, a new Benchmark dataset for EARD, based on claims from fact-checking websites by trying to gather as many early relevant posts as possible. We also propose HEARD, a novel model based on neural Hawkes process for EARD, which can guide a generic rumor detection model to make timely, accurate and stable predictions. Experiments show that HEARD achieves effective EARD performance on two commonly used general …
The Political Urgency Of Black Manhood: Frederick Douglass On Constitutional Theory, John M. Kang
The Political Urgency Of Black Manhood: Frederick Douglass On Constitutional Theory, John M. Kang
New Mexico Law Review
How did Frederick Douglass—one who was born a slave, one who had been denied all formal education, one who had been sundered from his family, one who had been starved, tortured, and, on occasion, nearly killed—manage to muster the courage to do something as bold as challenge the United States Supreme Court? This Article suggests that Douglass, in order to assert his right as an American citizen, first had to assert his right as a man in an explicitly gendered sense. That is, Douglass had to muster a powerful sense of manliness that could elevate him psychologically to assert his …

El Metadiscurso En La Escritura Académica: Singularidades E Investigaciones En Lengua Española, David Sánchez-Jiménez
Publications and Research

Despite their ever-increasing presence in everyday life, contracts remain notoriously inaccessible to laypeople. Why? Here, a corpus analysis (n ≈10 million words) revealed that contracts contain startlingly high proportions of certain difficult-to-process features–including low-frequency jargon, center-embedded clauses (leading to long-distance syntactic dependencies), passive voice structures, and non-standard capitalization–relative to nine other baseline genres of written and spoken English. Two experiments (N=184) further revealed that excerpts containing these features were recalled and comprehended at lower rates than excerpts without these features, even for experienced readers, and that center-embedded clauses inhibited recall more-so than other features. These findings (a) undermine …

The Elimination Of Political Groups Under International Law And The Constitution Of Political Claims, Farid Samir Benavides-Vanegas
The Elimination Of Political Groups Under International Law And The Constitution Of Political Claims, Farid Samir Benavides-Vanegas
Florida Journal of International Law
In this Article I will show, first, that there are no grounds to hold that the elimination of political groups can be treated as political genocide under international law, and second, that under the doctrine developed in ICTY Prosecutor v. Dusko Tadic there is no need to appeal to that category to obtain the punishment of the perpetrators of crimes against political groups. Nevertheless, I will show that the conceptual structure of crimes against humanity—especially the requirement of being part of a massive of widespread attack—seems to make plausible the question of creating a crime of political genocide. By the …

Health Equity In Medicine, Tracy Macintosh, Barbara L. Gracious, Jeremy R. Brooks, Graig Donini
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Healthcare disparities exist when, due to racial, ethnic, or gender identity differences linked to social, economic or environmental factors, certain populations lack equitable access to quality healthcare and insurance coverage. Such disparities across history carry profound future implications that we have only begun to contemplate as a profession. This special issue of the HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine examines the critical issue of health equity in medicine and how the medical community can advance health equity through inclusive behavior and interactions in clinical and educational settings, and our communities.
Application Of A Synergetic Approach To The Problem Of Synthesizing An Intelligent Control System For Chemical Reactors, Komil Usmanov
Application Of A Synergetic Approach To The Problem Of Synthesizing An Intelligent Control System For Chemical Reactors, Komil Usmanov
Karakalpak Scientific Journal
The article deals with the synthesis of effective algorithms for controlling a chemical reactor and developed a intelligent synergistic controller for a class of indefinite nonlinear dynamic systems. A synergetic control scheme is proposed for solving the control problem for nonlinear systems. Non-linear systems with configurations and parameters that change over time require a completely non-linear model and adaptive control scheme for a practical operating environment. The synthesis of control laws is performed by the method of analytical design of aggregated controllers (ADAR).

Ang Paglikha Ng Kalamidad, Jc Gaillard
Ang Paglikha Ng Kalamidad, Jc Gaillard

Patients, Corporate Attorneys, And Moral Obligations, Ioan-Radu Motoarcă
Patients, Corporate Attorneys, And Moral Obligations, Ioan-Radu Motoarcă
St. Mary's Journal on Legal Malpractice & Ethics
There are two main questions that any account of corporate lawyers’ moral obligations needs to answer: (1) Do corporate lawyers have moral obligations to third parties? and (2) In cases of conflict between obligations to the corporation and obligations to third parties, which should prevail? This Article offers answers to these questions in the context of lawyers working in medical corporations. I argue that lawyers do have moral obligations to third parties, and that in cases where patients’ rights are being violated by a medical company, patients’ rights should prevail. Consequently, attorney–client confidentiality rules should be relaxed to allow for …
“So, You Can Let Me Look At Your Phone?”: Detectives Obtaining Consent To Search Cell Phones, Stacy Dewald
“So, You Can Let Me Look At Your Phone?”: Detectives Obtaining Consent To Search Cell Phones, Stacy Dewald
Journal of Criminal Justice and Law
Issues regarding Fourth Amendment protections and police access to digital evidence have been an ongoing battle in the courts over the past few years. Despite growing literature on the importance of collecting digital evidence during criminal investigations, there is little research on how detectives obtain consent to get to digital evidence, particularly cell phones. The present study addresses this research gap by drawing upon participant-observation, in-situ interviews, and in-depth interviews of detectives in an American suburban police department. The data indicate that during suspect interviews, detectives attempt to obtain consent to search phones to avoid delays related to obtaining a …

Ethnographic Insight On The Construct Of Blackness: Heritage, ‘Home,’ Community, And Reality In Carver City-Lincoln Gardens, Tampa, Florida, 1928-2021, Lisa Katina Armstrong
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study is a community-engaged investigation of the experiences and impacts of Black people living in the segregated space called “Carver City-Lincoln Gardens.” This study aims to advance scholarly and mainstream conversations about one racialized community; it is a significant space because the Lincoln Gardens Area was explicitly designated by the Department of Defense as a residential space for Black veterans after World War II to purchase homes. By exploring this housing arrangement through an anthropological lens, the findings indicate that a mixed-method, collaborative ethnography reveals nuances that might be glossed over when communities are racialized. This study also seeks …

The Making Of Microcelebrities On Douyin: Multimodal Design And Online Identities In Informal English Instruction Videos, Yaqian Jiang
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
As the online education market continues to expand globally, teaching and advertising have converged in digital spaces in unprecedented ways. Driven by the attention economy, independent online educators must compete to cultivate a consumer base. To attract followers, they must engage not only in online teaching activities but also in self-branding practices. This dissertation explores how microcelebrities who teach English on Douyin utilize linguistic and other semiotic resources for both instructional and self-branding purposes.
To address this topic, I collected 84 informal English language instruction videos created by 14 different Douyin microcelebrities. Taking a social semiotic approach to multimodal discourse …

Application Of Adult Learning Theory To Continuing Medical Education (Cme) Development: A Quantitative Study To Determine If Cme Developed With Adult Learning Theory Can Improve Test Utilization In The Pediatric Emergency Department, Brenda Davis
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones
Healthcare professions education is a multifaceted topic with a broad scope spanning from the undergraduate to professional level. The application of adult learning theory and interprofessional education are aspects of this topic where there is a deviation between what is happening at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional level. The intent of this quantitative experimental research study was to examine if the application of adult learning theory to the current continuing medical education/continuing education (CME/CE) model could improve the utilization of the respiratory pathogen panel (RPP) test in an urban pediatric acute care children’s hospital emergency department (ED) to a greater …

Saudi Efl Learners’ Detection And Comprehension Of English Vivid Phrasal Idioms: A Conceptual Replication Study, Basma A. Moreb
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study was a mixed method research. The quantitative part investigated Saudi English learners’ English vivid phrasal (VP) idiom detection differences by lexical level, semi- lexical level, and post-lexical level, as well as comprehension and interpretation by zero-context and full-context conditions. It also researched the extent to which Saudi English learners differed in their scores on the measure of participants’ perceptions on the need for including VP idioms in classrooms. The qualitative part of this study investigated the challenges Saudi English learners faced while completing the detection and comprehension tasks and the strategies they used to detect and comprehend the …
