Comparative Philosophy As A General Way Of Doing Philosophy Through Cross-Tradition Engagement Toward World Philosophy, Bo Mou
Comparative Philosophy
In this theme essay for the addressed special-theme section in this special issue of the journal Comparative Philosophy commemorating the first anniversary of the International Society for Comparative Philosophy toward World Philosophy (CPWP), I intend to give an elaboration of the theme “comparative philosophy as a general way of doing philosophy through cross-tradition engagement toward world philosophy” (‘comparative philosophy toward world philosophy’ for short), which has been explicitly presented and formally stated through its recent academic-organizational channel CPWP and focuses on via the Journal’s and CPWP’s jointly organized international conference. The theme “comparative philosophy toward world philosophy” as a whole …

Developing Discourse In Work Environments Based On Approaches Tomodern Criticism:From Administrative Traditions To Linguistic Potential, Mohammed Saeed Al-Lowaimi Dr.
Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities
This research examines ways to develop speech in work environments in the light of the data of the critical approaches.it represents a link between the science of language and management, and an attempt to reconcile the function and structure of the language circulating in work environments. administrative traditions have painted this language in a certain administrative character in which the aspect of the job and the official goal prevailed, and may have missed some of the linguistic possibilities available to those who address this speech in writing and in recent times. hence, there is an area available to develop the …
Antonymous Dualities In Abdullah Al-Baradouni's Poetry: The Poem (We And The Rulers) As A Model, Abdullah Hassan Al-Qarni Dr.
Antonymous Dualities In Abdullah Al-Baradouni's Poetry: The Poem (We And The Rulers) As A Model, Abdullah Hassan Al-Qarni Dr.
Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities
This study deals with the "phenomenon of antonymous duality in Abdullah al-Baradouni's poetry" through his poem (We and the Rulers) in an attempt to answer a question that is: What is the role of antonymous dualities in Abdullah al-Baradouni's poetry, especially in crystallizing the poetic image, and confirming meanings and connotations in the mind of the recipient through his poem: (We and the Rulers)? The research concluded that those antonyms that came in the poet's text were the result of his philosophy towards the universe and man. The poet –often –cannot define the exact templates into which he pours his poetic …

Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) damages the parts of the brain that control speech and language. There are three clinical PPA variants: nonfluent/agrammatic (nfvPPA), logopenic (lvPPA) and semantic (svPPA). The pathophysiology underlying PPA variants is not fully understood, including the role of micro (mi)RNAs which were previously shown to play a role in several neurodegenerative diseases. Using a two-step analysis (array and validation through real-time PCR), we investigated the miRNA expression pattern in serum from 54 PPA patients and 18 controls. In the svPPA cohort, we observed a generalized upregulation of miRNAs with miR-106b-5p and miR-133a-3p reaching statistical significance (miR-106b-5p: 2.69 …

Sibling Mediation In An Executive Function Intervention For Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Lara Decastro
Sibling Mediation In An Executive Function Intervention For Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Lara Decastro
Yale School of Medicine Physician Associate Program Theses
Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder characterized by social communication deficits and restricted, repetitive behaviors. It is associated with deficits in cognitive flexibility, which is the ability to switch between tasks, shift attention, and adapt learned responses. Various interventions, such as the Unstuck and On Target curriculum, target cognitive flexibility. In addition, prior studies have supported including sibling mediation in interventions; however, the inclusion of siblings as mediators of the Unstuck and On Target curriculum has not yet been explored. We propose to determine whether including siblings as mediators to a modified Unstuck and On Target curriculum improves cognitive …

Music: Seeking Pleasure, Emotional Language, Ritualized Communication, Jillian N. Gerlach
Music: Seeking Pleasure, Emotional Language, Ritualized Communication, Jillian N. Gerlach
Interdivisional Studies Summer Fellows
The impetus for my project was how I view listening to music as a spiritual or religious experience. Listening to music, instead of practicing religion, satisfies my inclination toward spirituality. In the introduction to my paper, I outlined how music exists in my life. I thought it was valuable to provide my unique experience to give context to my research. I created a diagram that delineates how I interact with music and the benefits I derive from listening to music. During this self-reflection, I realized listening to music functions like a ritual for me. I noticed my individual ritualized listening …
Intellectual Freedom, Cultural Exchange, And Nazi Germany: The Relationship Between The Deutsch-Ausländischer Buchtausch, University Of Denver, And Other Cultural Heritage Institutions, David Fasman
University Libraries: Staff Scholarship
Shortly after Hitler’s rise to power, the Prussian State Library was restructured, birthing a new entity – the Deutsch-Ausländischer Buchtausch (German Foreign Book Exchange, DAB). The DAB was responsible for exchanging books and serials with scholarly institutions worldwide. In 1936, the University of Denver (DU) received a gift of books from the DAB. Nearly fifty percent of the books would be categorized as Nazi propaganda or eugenics literature by current standards. Upon further research, it was discovered that the DAB’s relationships included Stanford, Yale, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the …
Evaluation Of Preview Cues To Enhance Recall Of Auditory Sequential Information, Tsz Chun Marco Lau
Evaluation Of Preview Cues To Enhance Recall Of Auditory Sequential Information, Tsz Chun Marco Lau
Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)
Background: In previous work, an auditory vital sign display of five patients was developed. Sounds denoting the vital signs of each patient were delivered in order, with a special sound for any patient whose vital signs were all normal. Although the display was effective, accuracy decreased as the number of abnormal patients increased. We wondered whether accuracy would improve with a preview sound indicating the number of patients with abnormal vital signs in the upcoming sequence by reducing working memory load. We also wondered whether the preview sound would affect the performance of responding to concurrent task.

The Intersections Of Migration And Identity In Young Adult Literature Of The French-Speaking World, Kaitlyn Waller
The Intersections Of Migration And Identity In Young Adult Literature Of The French-Speaking World, Kaitlyn Waller
Department of Modern Languages and Literatures: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Both young adult literature and novels of migration frequently deal with the construction of identity, from coming-of-age stories to narratives of intercultural exploration and hybridization. Young adult narratives of migration, then, represent a fascinating intersection of two literary traditions for the exploration of questions of identity. However, young adult literature and its varied subgenres are often overlooked among the broader critical scholarship of migration narratives. Indeed, the genre is often critiqued as too simplistic or pedagogical to truly merit consideration among adult readers and academics. Through an in-depth analysis of nine novels, however, I explore questions of identity development in …
