Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Eighteen female Sahiwal calves of average four month of age and 54 kg body weight were selected for the study. The animals were divided into three groups (T0, T1, and T2) on body weight basis. The animals were fed as per ICAR feeding standard (2013) for calves for 90 days. The animals in T0 group T0 were fed as per feeding standard while in T1 and T2 groups, fresh Azolla pinnata was fed by replacing 15% and 30% protein content of concentrate with Azolla pinnata on DM basis. The nonsignificant results were obtained for all the physiological parameters. In addition, …

This study was conducted to determine the effect of nonfiber carbohydrates (NFC) and crude protein (CP) present in formula feed on the rumen fermentation characteristics and growth performance of weaned Hanwoo calves. Forty weaned calves were randomly assigned to four dietary groups based on NFC and CP levels as follows: high NFC (HN) at 38%-42%, low NFC (LN) at 33%-36%, high CP (HP) at 25%-26%, and low CP (LP) at 23%-24%. These groups were categorized as HN-HP, HN-LP, LN-HP, and LN-LP groups. Total digestible nutrients (TDN) and CP levels did not significantly affect the in vitro ruminal total gas, propionate, …

The present study was aimed to observe the postthaw quality of Nili-Ravi buffalo bull semen cryopreserved during heat stress (hot summer months) and normal climatic conditions (fall, winter, and spring months). For this purpose, four (n = 4) adult regular donor Nili-Ravi buffalo bulls were selected to collect and cryopreserve their semen throughout the period of an entire year. The cryopreservation of semen was done following standard freezing protocol. The semen doses cryopreserved during heat stress and normal climatic condition were thawed to determine the sperm motility, motion kinetics, viability, plasma membrane integrity, acrosomal integrity, and morphological abnormalities (head, mid-piece, …

Detection Of Correct Pregnancy Status In Lactating Dairy Cattle Using Mars Data Mining Algorithm, Demet Çanga, Mustafa Boğa

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, it is aimed to determine pregnancy outcomes by using multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) algorithm for classification type problems. For this purpose, data obtained from a private dairy farm in the Konya region of Türkiye in 2020 were used to determine pregnancy outcomes in Holstein dairy cattle. It has been determined how to perform statistical analyses on solving classification-type problems with the MARS algorithm and how to use R packages (caret and earth) by creating an R script file. After the analysis, the MARS estimation equation was created and in finding the probability of being pregnant: While …

Antimicrobial agents are used for suppressing some bacterial infections during the rearing of poultry. In this study; the antibiotic resistance properties of Extended Spectrum ßeta-lactamase (ESßL), Amp-C, carbapenemase-producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains isolated from chicken breast meat were determined by disc diffusion and E-test methods. Additionally, it is aimed to determine antibiotic resistance genes by classical polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In this context, E. coli strains were isolated from 7 of 100 chicken breast meat (fillets) and identified by a rapid identification system (BBL Crystal). Disc diffusion test results of the isolates were evaluated and 100% to tetracycline; ampicillin, …

Typing Of Rarely Isolated Salmonella Serotypes With Mlst, Seyyi̇de Sariçam İnce, İnci̇ Başak Müştak, Hami̇t Kaan Müştak

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Salmonellosis caused by nontyphoidal Salmonella is the second most common zoonotic infection worldwide. The major foodborne route of this infection is the consumption of contaminated poultry meat and egg. Therefore, monitoring and control of Salmonella agents in poultry populations is critical to reduce the risks for public health. In the poultry industry, the most common serotypes in Salmonella infections are Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serotype Enteritidis and Typhimurium. In recent years, other frequently isolated Salmonella serotypes have also increased in Turkey because of the Salmonella control programs regulated by many countries. Hence, other Salmonella serotypes (except for the most frequently …

Evidence-Based Information About Intermittent Fasting In Diabetes Patients: Useful Or Harmful?, Mustafa Altay

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: One of the most important components of treatment for diabetic patients is diet and healthy nutrition therapy. Calorie restriction is effective and without cost increases its appeal for both patients and physicians. Unfortunately, continuous calorie restriction is a difficult method. For this reason, alternative calorie restriction methods, such as intermittent fasting (IF), have been investigated by some researchers. Materials and methods: IF refers to a wide range of diet programmes covering periods of eating and fasting, which vary according to the different regimens. In this article, first, some general information will enable us to understand the concept of IF, …
