Learning analytics has drawn the attention of academics and administrators in recent years as a tool to better understand students' needs and to tailor appropriate and timely responses. While many value the potential of learning analytics, it is not without critics, especially with regards to ethical concerns surrounding the level and type of data gathered, and scepticism on data's ability to measure something useful and actionable. This paper gathers the thoughts of key stakeholders, including staff and students, and their expectations of learning analytics, their priorities for using student data, and how they should be supported to act on the …

Economic Models Of Church Life: Three Nudges Towards Better Behaviour, Stephen Bullivant Jan 2022

Economic Models Of Church Life: Three Nudges Towards Better Behaviour, Stephen Bullivant

Theology Papers and Journal Articles

Economic ideas have long shed light on diverse spheres of social and cultural life. Religion is no exception and has spawned a large and thriving subfield. However, whereas recent decades have famously witnessed a ‘behavioural’ turn in economics – with Nobel prizes going to two pioneers of the field, Daniel Kahneman in 2002 and Richard Thaler in 2017 – there has yet to be significant work done in the ‘behavioural economics of religion’. This is a shame; there are good reasons for thinking that behavioural-economic theories and findings might be particularly well suited to illumine several areas of practical church …

Fruits Of Their Labour: Biotransformation Reactions Of Yeasts During Brewery Fermentation, Natalia Svedlund, Simon Evering, Brian Gibson, Kristoffer Krogerus

Research Outputs: 2025-Present

Abstract: There is a growing appreciation for the role that yeast play in biotransformation of flavour compounds during beverage fermentations. This is particularly the case for brewing due to the continued popularity of aromatic beers produced via the dry-hopping process. Here, we review the current literature pertaining to biotransformation reactions mediated by fermentative yeasts. These reactions are diverse and include the liberation of thiols from cysteine or glutathione-bound adducts, as well as the release of glycosidically bound terpene alcohols. These changes serve generally to increase the fruit and floral aromas in beverages. This is particularly the case for the thiol …
