Florida’S Courts System Funding After Article V Revision 7, Joseph Ernest Smith, Sr.
Florida’S Courts System Funding After Article V Revision 7, Joseph Ernest Smith, Sr.
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The state of Florida approached the topic of funding for the courts system from a policy equilibrium position. The process used to fund Florida’s courts system was changed in 2004 to promote an equitable system of funding. However, a gap in knowledge remains regarding whether this new funding scheme improved the financial health of the courts system. This quantitative study, which involved using the punctuated equilibrium theory (PET) as its theoretical framework, examined funding associated with counties before (1998–2003) and after (2005–2018) the 2004 implementation of Revision 7 to Article V of the Florida Constitution. Revision 7 was examined as …
Impact Of Exercise On Depression And Anxiety In Adolescents With Complex Trauma Living In Residential Treatment Centers, Candace Snodgrass
Impact Of Exercise On Depression And Anxiety In Adolescents With Complex Trauma Living In Residential Treatment Centers, Candace Snodgrass
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Depression and anxiety disorders are two of the most frequently reported mental healthproblems for adolescents entering Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs). Many adolescents in RTCs also have a higher rate of traumatic experiences than their peers. Traumatized children frequently develop mental illness disorders of depression and anxiety. Based on the theoretical foundations provided by attachment theory and social cognitive theory, this pilot study, using secondary data, observed the relationship between exercise participation, depression, trauma, and anxiety for 11 youth in an upper Midwest RTC. Adolescents with higher initial depression and anxiety scores tended to exercise less during RTC than those with …
Education For Ltach Nurses On Clinical Monitoring Systems, Deneen Stokes
Education For Ltach Nurses On Clinical Monitoring Systems, Deneen Stokes
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Alarm fatigue is a patient safety issue. The gap identified in practice is that nurses did not know how to navigate the monitoring system properly such that improper use of the alarm system was the result, which compromised patient safety. The goal of this project aimed to fill the gap in knowledge and skill among the staff and improve the confidence level among nurses by providing an educational program. The practice-focused question focused on whether knowledge, skills, and confidence would increase among nurses after receiving education on the clinical monitoring system. The model to facilitate organizing and analyzing this project …

Clinical Practice Guidelines For Type 2 Diabetes Patients, Rajeena Varghese
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In the United States, Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a public health concern and a primary cause of readmissions to hospitals. Many patient readmissions may be avoided if quality, evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are developed and followed using a comprehensive approach. The project site’s retrospective analysis of electronic health records indicated a lack of consistency in following best practice recommendations, as shown by higher readmission rates. The purpose of this project study was to create a current evidence-based CPG that nurses can use to educate T2DM patients before being discharged from the hospital. The practice-focused question addressed whether …

The Impact Of Funding On Organizational Sustainability Of Mental Health Nonprofits In The County Of Orange, California, Sophia E. Valdez
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There is a gap in literature regarding sustainment of mental health programs following budget reductions. Customarily, decreases in budgets have been presumed to be connected to decreases in sustainability. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to describe the impact that a decrease in Proposition 63 funding had on nonprofit sustainability in the County of Orange, California. In 2004, California lawmakers enacted Prop 63 to revitalize the public mental health system. The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research was used as the conceptual framework for this study. This tool can be used to measure data in five categories; intervention, inner …

Boost Tool Implementation And Sepsis Readmissions, Length Of Stay, And Patient Satisfaction, Jane Venus-Nocentelli
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Sepsis is a global concern because it contributes to high mortality rates, increased healthcare costs, and poor patient outcomes. Health care organizations have used risk stratification tools such as the Better Outcomes by Optimizing Safe Transitions (BOOST) tool to reduce unnecessary readmissions, decrease length of hospital stays, and improve patient health outcomes. But there is limited data on the use of the BOOST tool in the sepsis population and the impact on readmissions and length of stay. The purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate the relationship between BOOST tool implementation, readmissions, and length of stay in patients with …

Narratives Of Adjustment And Adaptation Of Older Males With Life Sentences, John Taglianetti
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractThe United States holds over 40% of the world’s population of men serving life in prison. There are far more men serving life today than the total prison population just decades ago. Scholarly debate research on the adaptation and adjustment of LWOPs is sparse, and very little literature was available from the inmates’ perspective. Most scholarly literature addressed stakeholders’ views on how the prison environment influenced adaptation. This research was designed to answer the LWOPs' perspective on adaptation and adjustment while imprisoned and how they described their present and ongoing adaptation and adjustment experiences. A narrative approach was used to …

Suicidal Ideation Among American Indian And Alaska Natives In The United States, Lacie Lashawn Tillman
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Suicidal ideation is a silent public health issue across the United States. Evidence suggests that suicidal ideation is a predictor of suicide attempt and completion. Suicide is a leading cause of death among American Indians and Alaska Natives (AIs/ANs) in the United States, especially among younger people. Alcohol and illicit drug use, coupled with poor social conditions, can lead to suicidal ideations—and sometimes suicide completion. Using social cognitive theory, this quantitative cross-sectional study compared variables within the 2017, 2018, and 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health to determine the effect that alcohol and/or illicit drug use has on …

Relationship Between Incentive Program Costs, Incentive Payments, And Profitability, Claire Claire Turner
Relationship Between Incentive Program Costs, Incentive Payments, And Profitability, Claire Claire Turner
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The lack of profitability among primary care businesses can have harmful impacts on business operations. Primary care businesses owners must remain profitable to remain in business and provide quality health care to patients. Grounded in Freeman’s stakeholder theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between incentive program costs, incentive payments, and profitability. Data were collected from 73 primary care physician business owners in the Inland Empire region of southern California. The multiple linear regression analysis results indicated the model was able to significantly predict profitability, F(2,70) = 1343.6, p <.001, R2 = .975. Incentive payments (t = 51.837, p < .001, = .928) was the only statistically significant predictor. Key recommendations include educating primary care physicians on the potential financial benefits of full participation in the commercial line of business pay-for-performance incentive programs and creating a campaign to bring in patients for wellness visits. The implications for positive social change include the potential for an additional revenue stream for primary care physician business owners, which could support more clinics, increasing patient access. Patients having better access to healthcare could positively affect the health and wellness of individuals in local communities.
