A Security And Privacy Aware Computing Approach On Data Sharing In Cloud Environment, Mustafa Azeez Al Mayyahi, Seyed Amin Hosseini Seno
Baghdad Science Journal
Today, the role of cloud computing in our day-to-day lives is very prominent. The cloud computing paradigm makes it possible to provide demand-based resources. Cloud computing has changed the way that organizations manage resources due to their robustness, low cost, and pervasive nature. Data security is usually realized using different methods such as encryption. However, the privacy of data is another important challenge that should be considered when transporting, storing, and analyzing data in the public cloud. In this paper, a new method is proposed to track malicious users who use their private key to decrypt data in a system, …
Forecasting Ride-Hailing Across Multiple Model Frameworks, Christopher Stephen Day
Forecasting Ride-Hailing Across Multiple Model Frameworks, Christopher Stephen Day
Theses and Dissertations
The advent of on-demand transport modes such as ride-hailing and microtransit has challenged forecasters to develop new methods of forecasting the use and impacts of such modes. In particular, there is some professional disagreement about the relative role of activity-based transportation behavior models -- which have detailed understanding of the person making a trip and its purpose -- and multi-agent demand simulations which may have a better understanding of the availability and service characteristics of on-demand services. A particular question surrounds how the relative strengths of these two approaches might be successfully paired in practice. Using daily plans generated by …

Tiptoeing Through The Tulips At Seventy: A Memoir, Fran Miele
Master of Arts in Professional Writing Capstones
This is a memoir about my lifetime search for clarity about my gender identity. My primary goal for the project was to catalog the steps I took in the sometimes-tortured and confusing path I followed over the course of my life, from childhood to late adulthood, striving to understand who and what I am in terms of my identity and how, once it was clarified in my mind, coming to terms with it and, at the ripe old age of seventy, taking the steps necessary to affirm it by way of the male-to-female transition. A secondary, incidental goal was …

Placing The Cart Before The Horse: E-Records Policy Experiences And Lessons From Zimbabwe’S Provincial Government, Samson Mutsagondo, Petronella Katekwe
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
There is remarkable growth in use of electronic records in Zimbabwe. The professional management of such records is brought under spotlight as government ministries in the Midlands province of Zimbabwe manage electronic records without electronic records policies in place. The absence of electronic records policies implies lack of guidance regarding what should be done, how, when, why and by whom. The implementation of electronic records programmes in provincial government ministries before formulating and mobilising policies that guide such programmes is akin to placing the cart before the horse. Developing countries which face similar scenarios may take a leaf from the …

The reservoir for zoonotic o’nyong-nyong virus (ONNV) has remained unknown since this virus was first recognized in Uganda in 1959. Building on existing evidence for mosquito bloodfeeding on various frugivorous bat species in Uganda, and seroprevalence for arboviruses among bats in Uganda, we sought to assess if serum samples collected from bats in Uganda demonstrated evidence of exposure to ONNV or the closely related zoonotic chikungunya virus (CHIKV). In total, 652 serum samples collected from six bat species were tested by plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT) for neutralizing antibodies against ONNV and CHIKV. Forty out of 303 (13.2%) Egyptian rousettes …

Safety And Efficacy Of Salvage Therapy With Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy For Malignant Meningioma Refractory To Cesium-131 Brachytherapy: Illustrative Case, Clifford Yudkoff, Aria Mahtabfar, Keenan Piper, Kevin Judy
Department of Neurosurgery Faculty Papers
BACKGROUND
Anaplastic meningioma are rare, cancerous tumors of the central nervous system that often require multimodal therapy for tumor control. Both laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) and brachytherapy with implanted cesium-131 metallic seeds have demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of recurrent and resistant anaplastic meningioma; however, their safety as a dual therapy has never been reported.
OBSERVATIONS
In this report, the authors present a case of a 53-year-old female who received LITT in combination with brachytherapy after surgical and radiation treatment options had been exhausted. The authors discuss the unique safety concern of thermal injury with this treatment combination and …

After the attacks on 9/11, Muslims in the United States were the targets of increased surveillance by law enforcement on the basis of their religious identity, often resulting in mistreatment and unjustified imprisonment. The current study examined ideologies that are associated with Islamophobia and support for police surveillance of Muslims, as well as specific types of intergroup threat perceptions that mediate these relationships. Participants (N = 603) completed a survey measuring Social Dominance Orientation (SDO), Right-wing Authoritarianism (RWA), Nationalism, intergroup threat perceptions, Islamophobia, and support for an anti-Muslim police surveillance policy. Results demonstrated that higher levels of SDO, RWA, and …

Effects Of Antecedent Precipitation Amount And Covid-19 Lockdown On Water Quality Along An Urban Gradient, Daniel Ramirez, Heejun Chang, Katherine Gelsey
Geography Faculty Publications and Presentations
Water quality is affected by multiple spatial and temporal factors, including the surrounding land characteristics, human activities, and antecedent precipitation amounts. However, identifying the relationships between water quality and spatially and temporally varying environmental variables with a machine learning technique in a heterogeneous urban landscape has been understudied. We explore how seasonal and variable precipitation amounts and other small-scale landscape variables affect E. coli, total suspended solids (TSS), nitrogen-nitrate, orthophosphate, lead, and zinc concentrations in Portland, Oregon, USA. Mann–Whitney tests were used to detect differences in water quality between seasons and COVID-19 periods. Spearman’s rank correlation analysis was used to …

Although machine learning (ML) has shown promise across disciplines, out-of-sample generalizability is concerning. This is currently addressed by sharing multi-site data, but such centralization is challenging/infeasible to scale due to various limitations. Federated ML (FL) provides an alternative paradigm for accurate and generalizable ML, by only sharing numerical model updates. Here we present the largest FL study to-date, involving data from 71 sites across 6 continents, to generate an automatic tumor boundary detector for the rare disease of glioblastoma, reporting the largest such dataset in the literature (n = 6, 314). We demonstrate a 33% delineation improvement for the surgically …

Implementation Of Provider Education Regarding Exercise As Adjunctive Treatment For Common Mental Health Diagnoses, Lauren Grace Martin
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Mental and physical health are inextricably linked. The advent of the Covid-19 pandemic reduced physical activity levels while worsening mental health symptoms. Pharmacological treatments are frequently used to treat mental health conditions; however, side effects can worsen metabolic issues. There is significant evidence that exercise can improve mental health conditions. The purpose of this project was to utilize provider education as an intervention to increase the use of exercise as an adjunctive treatment in the psychiatric treatment plan. This project was implemented at Nevada Mental Health, an outpatient behavioral health clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada. The investigator conducted a chart …

Correlation Between Social-Emotional Competencies And Academic Performance, Sherria Lashontae Burney
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of the correlational research study was to evaluate the relationship between Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) interventions and academic performance. The significance of the research study is that it addressed the literature gap in determining if social-emotional competencies are associated with academic performance. The research study included 62 third-grade students in an elementary school in an urban school district in the Southeastern region of the United States. The predictor variables, which are self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills, were measured using the Social Skills Improvement System- Social Emotional Learning Rating Form (SSIS-SEL RF). The criterion variable, academic …
Mental Health Implications Of Isolation During Hospitalization For Covid-19: Self-Perceived Variations In Emotion, Rebekah Ruth Jones
Mental Health Implications Of Isolation During Hospitalization For Covid-19: Self-Perceived Variations In Emotion, Rebekah Ruth Jones
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Forced isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in numerous mental health consequences. Individuals who have required hospitalization due to contracting the illness are at an increased risk of developing potentially harmful mental health concerns resulting from the emotional distress of forced isolation. Families separated from one another experience anxiety and fear due to helplessness fostered by the separation. Furthermore, medical caretakers are placed in the position to make life-altering decisions for their patients, increasing their stress and anxiety levels. Therefore, it is imperative that hospitals provide adequate mental health support for patients and their family members. Furthermore, communities …

It is common for those entering counseling at the Lake Church Counseling Center to lack intimacy with God. When one lacks intimacy with God, they are in imminent danger of becoming influenced exclusively by the world's thinking in one or more areas of life. It is the effort of the LCCC to provide services to those suffering from emotional, spiritual, relational, and personal development struggles. Initially, the counseling center treats such conditions using Living Prayer to help clients strengthen their connection with God and transition to behaviors influenced only by the kingdom of God. This project aims to help Lake …
An Education Intervention Project In Community Clinics To Improve The Identification Of Patients With Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis And To Correctly Identify The Type Utilizing The Differential Diagnostic Algorithm, Catherine J. Poisson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
With over 7000 types, rare diseases affect 25-30 million Americans and contribute to over one trillion dollars in healthcare-related costs. Prescribers lack the knowledge to improve awareness, identification, and treatment of rare diseases. Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is a rare disease in which patients present with symptoms such as dyspnea, fatigue, and respiratory infections. Diagnosis can take four to 92 months. A differential diagnostic algorithm published in the literature can guide clinicians in identifying the type of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis the patient has. In addition, if the clinicians perform a laboratory test called the granulocyte-macrophage autoantibody test, this test provides 100% …

The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe the experiences of school counselors as they transition to integrate technology to meet the demands of their job as transformed school counselors. Eleven participants were selected using a purposeful and criterion-based sample of school counselors from a school counselor’s Facebook group. The participants selected were employed in a public middle school, junior high school, or high school system found within the United States. The central question for this study was: how do school counselors describe their experiences of integrating technology so they may meet the demands of their job? The …
A Biblical Theology Of Water, Eric Robert Waller
A Biblical Theology Of Water, Eric Robert Waller
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Numerous “water related terms” are utilized in Genesis 1-2 such as, “the deep, “the waters,” “water,” “sea,” seas,” “stream,” “river,” “flow,” “flows,” and “rain.” Arguably similar, Revelation 21-22 uses the terms “water of life,” “river of the water of life,” “thirsty,” “spring, ” and “lake.” That the traditional Protestant canon is bookended with such similar terminology appears to create an inclusio that demands further inquiry within the canon to seek supplemental, complementary, and even potentially contrasting and conflicting evidence supporting a biblical theology of water. While commentary on every canonical water related text or term would be a daunting task …
