Generating Honeyword Based On A Proposed Bees Algorithm, Yasser A. Yasser, Ahmed T., Wasim Alhamdani
Generating Honeyword Based On A Proposed Bees Algorithm, Yasser A. Yasser, Ahmed T., Wasim Alhamdani
Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
Honeywords are fake passwords that are typically companions to the real password “sugarword.” The honeyword technique is a password cracking detection technique that works effectively to improve the security of hashed passwords by making password cracking simpler to detect. The password database will contain many honeywords for each user in the system. A silent alarm will trigger, indicating that the password database has been compromised if the hacker signs in using a honeyword. The honeychecker is a separate server in charge of recognizing the real password and raising the silent alarm. Many honeyword creation techniques have been presented previously. They …
Let's Get Real: Weak Artificial Intelligence Has Free Speech Rights, James B. Garvey
Let's Get Real: Weak Artificial Intelligence Has Free Speech Rights, James B. Garvey
Fordham Law Review
The right to free speech is a strongly protected constitutional right under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court significantly expanded free speech protections for corporations in Citizens United v. FEC. This case prompted the question: could other nonhuman actors also be eligible for free speech protection under the First Amendment? This inquiry is no longer a mere intellectual exercise: sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) may soon be capable of producing speech. As such, there are novel and complex questions surrounding the application of the First Amendment to AI. Some commentators argue that AI …

There were 508 clinical trials involving sites in Ukraine or Russia. Most were multinational studies (470 of 508; 93 %). The majority of studies …
The Efficacy And Feasibility Of Web-Based Acceptance-Enhanced Behavioral Treatment For Trichotillomania In Adults: A Randomized Waitlist-Controlled Trial, Leila K. Capel
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Trichotillomania, or chronic hair pulling, impacts several aspects of a person’s everyday life and functioning including making it difficult to fully engage in school, work, romantic relationships, and other social relationships. There are several treatment options for trichotillomania and one that is particularly promising is acceptance and commitment therapy-enhanced behavioral therapy (AEBT). Several studies have been done in person and through telehealth and this treatment has helped participants.
Many people in the U.S. struggle with trichotillomania but many people are not able to access treatment for their hair pulling because clinicians are not available in their area, clinicians are not …
Taming Immigration Trauma, Raquel E. Aldana
Taming Immigration Trauma, Raquel E. Aldana
Cardozo Law Review
This Article documents the United States’ century-long efforts to humanize our borders. In the end, law has been insufficient to tame immigration law’s enforcement. How the United States enforces borders, however, can and should be more humane. Two important principles should guide this process. First, the United States should recognize that borders’ impacts are as severe as other forms of punishment, especially when the means to enforce the immigration power have become indistinguishable from criminal enforcement. Second, human trauma should guide immigration policy toward meaningful inclusion. After significant reckoning over the travesty of shutting our borders, the United States has …

Combining Cognitive And Noncognitive Assessments To Predict First Year Gpa And Persistence In Community College Students, David Harris Larman
Combining Cognitive And Noncognitive Assessments To Predict First Year Gpa And Persistence In Community College Students, David Harris Larman
Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations
Standard assessments of cognitive ability have been the preferred method of assessing the probability of student achievement at community colleges, but there is a growing trend in the use of noncognitive factors to assess student potential. Factors related to a student’s race/ethnicity and family income have been shown to be correlated with placement tests scores and high school grades. There is a gap in the literature about the use of noncognitive measures in conjunction with standardized placement tests to predict the achievement and persistence of community college students. The purpose of this study was to examine the strength of cognitive …

Identity Term Sampling For Measuring Gender Bias In Training Data, Nasim Sobhani, Sarah Jane Delany
Identity Term Sampling For Measuring Gender Bias In Training Data, Nasim Sobhani, Sarah Jane Delany
Conference Papers
Predictions from machine learning models can reflect biases in the data on which they are trained. Gender bias has been identified in natural language processing systems such as those used for recruitment. The development of approaches to mitigate gender bias in training data typically need to be able to isolate the effect of gender on the output to see the impact of gender. While it is possible to isolate and identify gender for some types of training data, e.g. CVs in recruitment, for most textual corpora there is no obvious gender label. This paper proposes a general approach to measure …

Why Do Some Perfectionists Procrastinate? The Role Of Using Effective Time Management Strategies And Perceived Busyness In Perfectionism Outcomes, Xinyao Yu
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
In many achievement-driven societies, maintaining productivity amidst an increasingly busy and stressful schedule has become a challenge for many people, particularly those with perfectionistic tendencies. Across two studies, the present research examined why some perfectionists are more prone to procrastination and tested the effectiveness of time management intervention in reducing their procrastination tendencies. Specifically, the current studies adopted a multidimensional approach to measure perfectionism as manifested in perfectionistic strivings and perfectionistic concerns. Study 1 showed that perfectionistic strivings negatively predicted procrastination, while perfectionistic concerns positively predicted procrastination, through the mediating effects of using effective time management strategies. Study 2 further …

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Early on-site diagnosis of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) will provide the best guidance for clinical practice. However, existing methods and sensors cannot provide sufficiently detailed physical information related to the blunt force impact. In the present work, a smart helmet with a single embedded fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor is developed, which can monitor complex blunt force impact events in real time under both wired and wireless modes. The transient oscillatory signal "fingerprint" can specifically reflect the impact-caused physical deformation of the local helmet structure. By combination with machine learning algorithms, the unknown transient impact can be recognized quickly …

This paper reports on the γ-ray properties of the 2018 Galactic nova V392 Per, spanning photon energies ∼0.1 GeV-100 TeV by combining observations from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and the HAWC Observatory. As one of the most rapidly evolving γ-ray signals yet observed for a nova, GeV γ-rays with a power-law spectrum with an index Γ = 2.0 ± 0.1 were detected over 8 days following V392 Per's optical maximum. HAWC observations constrain the TeV γ-ray signal during this time and also before and after. We observe no statistically significant evidence of TeV γ-ray emission from V392 Per, but …

Environmental Sensitivity Of Maternal And Offspring Phenotype In The Green Anole (Anolis Carolinensis) Lizard, Jamie Marks
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Animals dynamically invest their acquired energetic resources into fitness-related traits, and life-history trade-offs occur when limited resources are invested in a given trait at the expense of another. The phenotypic effects of life history trade-offs are well documented, but the mechanisms facilitating these trade-offs are poorly understood. One such mechanism is the insulin/insulin-like signaling (IIS) network, and specifically its two primary hormones: insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) and insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2). IGF1 is well-characterized but IGF2 is severely understudied, though it is present in nearly all amniotes and sometimes expressed at higher levels than IGF1 in adulthood. I …
A Phenomenological Study Of Principals’ Perceptions Of Instructional Leadership In The Context Of Mandated Teacher Evaluation, Gabrielle P. Delatte
A Phenomenological Study Of Principals’ Perceptions Of Instructional Leadership In The Context Of Mandated Teacher Evaluation, Gabrielle P. Delatte
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
The literature on instructional leadership includes the practices in which principals can engage (Stein & Nelson, 2003) and discusses how the principal’s leadership practices can be mediated by the teacher observation tool within the teacher evaluation system (Spillane, Halverson, & Diamond, 2001). However, the literature includes less about how and why leaders enact those instructional leadership practices (Spillane et al., 2001; Spillane, 2006) and how the teacher evaluation tool might or might not be influencing that how and why. The purpose of this qualitative study is to produce a description of how principals perceive the instructional leadership they provide teachers …

Identifying Knowledge Spillovers From Universities: Quasi-Experimental Evidence From Urban China, Li Jing, Shimeng Liu, Yifan Wu
Research Collection School Of Economics
This paper studies the impact of universities on local innovation activity by exploiting a unique university expansion policy in China as a quasi-experiment. We take a geographic approach, empowered by geocoded data on patents and new products at the address level, to identify knowledge spillovers as an important channel. We obtain three main findings. First, university expansion significantly increases universities’ own innovation capacity, which results in a dramatic boom of local industry patents. Second, the impact of university expansion on local innovation activities attenuates sharply within 2 kilometers of the universities. Third, university expansion boosts nearby firms’ new products and …

The CPTPP, or the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, is an example of a ‘mega-regional’ free trade agreement, whose provisions on the rules of origin and trade facilitation can potentially have large impacts on CPTPP-wide supply chains. In this paper, we analyse how intensively the CPTPP members participate in the global value chain (GVC), whether they have stronger linkages with members than with non-members, the position of the members in the global and regional network, and whether the CPTPP members are key upstream and downstream trade partners to each other. We develop formulas of GVC position, and importance …

Once considered a pathway to the middle class for Black Americans, teaching was a sought-after profession for Black folks for job stability (Collier, 2002). While there is extensive research on the experiences of teachers of color, and what might lead to their attrition in the teaching profession, Black women experience a specific intersection of race, class, and gender that affects their sustainability in the teaching profession that deserves exploration.

Measuring The Effectiveness Of Light Concentration With The Catoptric Surface, Samatha Kodali
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
The Catoptric Surface is an array of mirrors arranged on the interior of a large window which serves to manipulate the effects of natural lighting inside the room. The framework for moving the mirrors uses an interface which connects various Raspberry Pis and Arduino Unos to move stepper motors that connect to each mirror and move them as desired by the user. This kind of light manipulation allows the atmosphere of the room to be modified using natural lighting rather than artificial lighting and can be useful for varying the way people interact with a space. The intensity at which …
Development Of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography System For Mouse Eye Imaging And Measurement Of Vasodilation, Yilin Li
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is broadly known as a non-invasive technology that allows examining the retinal and choroidal vasculatures, alternative to fluorescein angiography. In this study, we have developed an optical coherence tomography (OCT) system for imaging the mouse eye. We measure the retinal thickness, which is 216.53um. We apply OCTA to characterize the quantitative change in vessel diameter and the perfusion density of the retina after the wild-type mice are administered the adenosine or inhale carbon dioxide. Comparing the images acquired one minute and 5 minutes after the injection or CO2 inhalation with the baseline, distinct changes …
