Creating Promotional Products For Flame Broiler Inc., David Lee Dec 2021

Creating Promotional Products For Flame Broiler Inc., David Lee

Graphic Communication

Throughout my time in Graphic Communication, the aspect of taking a product design from ideation to creation interested me the most. I have taken multiple classes that allowed me to do this, but with pre-determined parameters. Screen printing always caught my attention mainly because I wanted to make my own clothing. Though I learned how to execute the process, I never applied that knowledge into my own project. With my internship at Flame Broiler Inc. and my enrollment in GrC 462, a perfect opportunity presented itself. The marketing team at the company was open to any ideas and liked the …

Molecular Mechanisms Underlying The Suppression Of Cardiomyocyte Necroptosis By The Cop9 Signalosome In Mice, Megan T. Lewno Dec 2021

Molecular Mechanisms Underlying The Suppression Of Cardiomyocyte Necroptosis By The Cop9 Signalosome In Mice, Megan T. Lewno

Dissertations and Theses

Background: Within a large subset of heart failure, cardiac ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) inadequacy is causative. A vital UPS regulator is the COP9 signalosome (CSN). The CSN holocomplex is formed by 8 unique protein subunits (COPS1~COPS8) and regulates Cullin-RING ligases via Cullin deneddylation. Cardiomyocyte-restricted knockout (cko) of Cops8 causes massive cardiomyocyte necroptosis via the RIPK1-RIPK3-MLKL pathway, resulting in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and shortened lifespan in mice. CSN’s deneddylase resides in COPS5 and Cops5-cko has not been explored. It is important to investigate how the necroptotic pathway within cardiomyocytes is activated in Cops8-cko mice as cardiomyocyte necroptosis has been shown to play …

Machine Learning Application For Mission Data Reprogramming, Paolo A. Bingham Dec 2021

Machine Learning Application For Mission Data Reprogramming, Paolo A. Bingham

Theses and Dissertations

Before entering a conflict or theater, USAF aircraft require updated mission data software reprogramming. Mission data controls all electronic warfare (EW) operations of the aircraft. EW operations include identifying and jamming radar operated systems, whether they are friendly or hostile. The process of reprogramming software is continuous and routinely updated for every EW system annually. On specific circumstances, the process can be expedited to months, but this puts a strain on the development team and shifts all attention to one specific mission data file. Unfortunately, a growing number of requests to upgrade mission data to a higher priority state, has …

Design And Performance Characterization Of A Water Propellant Resistojet Thruster, Sean M. Weathersby Dec 2021

Design And Performance Characterization Of A Water Propellant Resistojet Thruster, Sean M. Weathersby

Theses and Dissertations

Secondary payloads, such as CubeSats, are being increasingly used by the US Department of Defense in the role of defense capability enhancement, and these increasingly complex defense missions can require extended lifespans that result in the need for a thruster. While many thruster options exist, characteristics such as propellant toxicity, complexity, and low performance limit many viable solutions. However, a potential answer that satisfies these thruster limitations is found in electrothermals, specifically the resistojet. The research presented here represents the first attempt to construct a 1U water-propellant resistojet thruster design and establish an initial characterization through evaluation of various performance …

As demonstrated at Anak Krakatau on December 22nd, 2018, tsunamis generated by volcanic flank collapse are incompletely understood and can be devastating. Here, we present the first high-resolution characterisation of both subaerial and submarine components of the collapse. Combined Synthetic Aperture Radar data and aerial photographs reveal an extensive subaerial failure that bounds pre-event deformation and volcanic products. To the southwest of the volcano, bathymetric and seismic reflection data reveal a blocky landslide deposit (0.214 ± 0.036 km3) emplaced over 1.5 km into the adjacent basin. Our findings are consistent with en-masse lateral collapse with a volume ≥0.175 km3, resolving …

Republicans Are More Optimistic About Economic Mobility, But No Less Accurate, Matt Grossmann, Kayla Hamann, Jennifer Lee, Gabrielle Levy, Brendan Nyhan, Victor Wu Dec 2021

Republicans Are More Optimistic About Economic Mobility, But No Less Accurate, Matt Grossmann, Kayla Hamann, Jennifer Lee, Gabrielle Levy, Brendan Nyhan, Victor Wu

Dartmouth Scholarship

Do Americans overestimate economic mobility? Using representative surveys of the public and local government officials, we assess claims of widespread misperceptions about economic mobility by measuring the accuracy of participants’ perceptions of both relative and absolute mobility. Republican members of the public and government officials are more optimistic than are Democrats about poor children’s chances of reaching the highest income quintile (relative mobility) and earning more than their parents (absolute mobility). Democrats also rate race and family wealth as more important to children’s chances than do Republicans. However, partisan tendencies to overestimate or underestimate mobility are roughly symmetric despite differences …

Positive Behavioral Interventions And Supports (Pbis): Does Stronger Implementation Relate To More Equitable Student Outcomes In School Discipline?, Stephenie C. Bruce

Dissertations

For this study, I explored the degree of implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework and the existence of disproportionality of formal school disciplinary responses to behavioral occurrences by race/ethnicity, sex, special education status (SPED), and socioeconomic status (SES) of students. Further, I investigated the relationship between a school’s degree of implementation of PBIS and the existence of disproportionality by race/ethnicity, sex, SPED, and SES, and investigated the differences in the existence of disproportionality in schools that fully implemented PBIS and schools that did not fully implement PBIS.

Literature exists on PBIS implementation and, separately, on the …

Integrating International Graduate Students On Campus: The Perspectives Of Student Affairs Professionals And Staff, Rachal Etshim Dec 2021

Integrating International Graduate Students On Campus: The Perspectives Of Student Affairs Professionals And Staff, Rachal Etshim

Dissertations

International graduate students are a unique population that face specific challenges that affect their campus integration (Arthur, 2017; Burdett & Crossman, 2012; Sharma, 2019). The role of student affairs professionals and staff includes developing and integrating all students, including international graduate students, on-campus (Di Maria, 2012; Braskamp, 2011; Kuh, 2009; Wilcox, et al., 2005). However, many student affairs professionals and staff feel unprepared to serve or work with international graduate students (Brandenburg, 2016; Cierra, 2004; Di Maria, 2012; Yakaboski & Perozzi, 2018). There has been little empirical research conducted on student affairs professionals and staff members’ perspectives about their role …

Adding Bite To The Zone Of Twilight: Applying Kisor To Revitalize The Youngstown Tripartite, Zachary W. Singer Dec 2021

Adding Bite To The Zone Of Twilight: Applying Kisor To Revitalize The Youngstown Tripartite, Zachary W. Singer

Michigan Journal of Environmental & Administrative Law

In the half century and more since Justice Jackson’s famous concurrence in Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer, the fog surrounding acceptable executive power in national security and foreign affairs has only thickened. Today, whether presidents are responding to the challenges of an amorphous global war on terrorism or a global pandemic, they act against a backdrop of ambiguous constitutional and statutory authorization and shifting precedent. While Justice Jackson outlined zones of presidential power by tying that power to congressional acts, the Court subsequently watered down the test by looking to other factors, like legislative intent. At other …
