Open Educational Resources: Textbooks
Like most textbooks, this book grew out of our desire to have written material that matches the educational needs of both the students and the instructor of a college course, in this case a course entitled Irrigation Systems Management. The book is the culmination of course notes which have been in development and use for nearly 30 years.
The emphasis of this book is on the management of irrigation systems that are used for agricultural crop production. There are two distinct components of the book, starting with the soil-water-plant-atmosphere system and how soil water should be managed to achieve the …

Low frequency oscillations (LFOs) occur in a system of interconnected generators connected by weak interconnection. A power system stabilizer (PSS) is commonly used to improve the capacity of the power system dampening. Under a variety of operating conditions, traditional PSSs fail to deliver superior damping. To address this issue, a Farmland Fertility Algorithm (FFA-PSSs controller) was used to solve an optimization problem for optimal design of PSSs system parameters, and its performance efficiency was compared to GA and PSO-based PSSs controllers. In addition to PSS, flexible current transmission (FACTS) devices are widely used. PSSs controllers and FACTS devices are frequently …

Princess takes place in a world where eyeballs stretch out of people’s heads like prehensile limbs. The film follows a father, Franklin, who is seen in his home wearing a dress. He covers himself in a long trench coat before leaving the house. As he gets into a cab, Franklin ushers the driver to move quickly, but before too long the cab gets stuck in traffic. This leaves Franklin no choice but to get out and walk. When he exits the cab, his coat gets stuck in the door and rips as he tries to pull it free. The dress …

Journo: Organize And Share The Memory Of Travel Experience, Ziyi Tao
Theses
With the improvement of living standards and the construction of public transportation, many people travel more frequently. They want to record those experiences and get more enlightenment when they look back upon the memory. Additionally, many people have eagerly requested to share their travel experiences due to the development of social media and the information explosion era. Less than a decade ago, people would travel without a smart device. They tended to take photos along the way with a film camera, and stick them on a physical photo album to share with friends and family. The other traditional method of …

Effects Of Anharmonicity In A Dual-Sagnac Interferometer, Stephen Thomas
Effects Of Anharmonicity In A Dual-Sagnac Interferometer, Stephen Thomas
Honors College Theses
A recent experiment implemented a dual Sagnac atom interferometer (AI) for rotation sensing using a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) confined in a TOP-trap potential. The BEC is split twice by laser light to create two pairs of counter-orbiting clouds in a lowest-order harmonic potential with each pair acting as a separate Sagnac interferometer. After one orbit the two overlapping cloud pairs are split again and the interference patterns are inferred from the population of atoms in the zero-momentum state. We have simulated the impact of the presence of anharmonic terms in the potential on the performance of the AI as measured …

Learning the essential concepts and skills of information architecture (IA) has the potential to not only significantly extend the abilities of practicing library and information science (LIS) professionals, but also to evolve their professional identities and envisioned career opportunities. An online course on IA was designed around: the principles of threshold concepts, practical knowledge for the workplace, and professional ‘soft’ skills, such as collaboration and basic project management. The primary objective for the course was creating experiences for students in which they could discover and engage with critical concepts in IA and to collaborate with their peers to design content-rich …
Clean Fields, Lindsey E. Creel
Clean Fields, Lindsey E. Creel
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Clean Fields is an exhibition consisting of 3 anthotypes and 11 drawings on paper mounted to panels. The work is part homage and part documentation of the emotionally restorative properties found in gardening. It is a contemporary view of a timeless activity. While the work references realistic content, the artistic outcomes are non-objective. Modifications in composition and scale provide variation throughout the series. The large-scale of the works and the use of economy and movement in the composition move the viewer into a meditative state.
Digital Transformation Of Issuing Final Clearance Certificate For Infrastructure Projects In Dubai, Anmar Mohammed Alobaidi
Digital Transformation Of Issuing Final Clearance Certificate For Infrastructure Projects In Dubai, Anmar Mohammed Alobaidi
Theses
This paper investigates the essential practices to digitally transform the process of issuing final clearance certificates. In Dubai, a final clearance system enhancement was introduced recently to combine all stakeholders as it is part of eNOC portal (electronic no objection certificate) to issue the certificate. The eNOC platform acts as a centralized hub, bringing together multiple service entities from both government and private organizations to issue unified No-Objection-Certificates (NOCs) for infrastructure projects within the Right-Of-Way (ROW). In this chapter, we employ the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) approach to engineering management, facilitating a systematic evaluation of various project aspects. …

BACKGROUND: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) uses standardized antimicrobial administration ratios (SAARs)-that is, observed-to-predicted ratios-to compare antibiotic use across facilities. CDC models adjust for facility characteristics when predicting antibiotic use but do not include patient diagnoses and comorbidities that may also affect utilization. This study aimed to identify comorbidities causally related to appropriate antibiotic use and to compare models that include these comorbidities and other patient-level claims variables to a facility model for risk-adjusting inpatient antibiotic utilization.
METHODS: The study included adults discharged from Premier Database hospitals in 2016-2017. For each admission, we extracted facility, claims, and …
The Efficacy Of The Health At Every Size (Haes) Approach In The Treatment Of Eating Disorders And Disordered Eating Patterns, Margaret Corrine Herin
The Efficacy Of The Health At Every Size (Haes) Approach In The Treatment Of Eating Disorders And Disordered Eating Patterns, Margaret Corrine Herin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
This study aimed to review primary research to assess the measured physical and psychological benefits of implementing the Health at Every Size (HAES) approach in treating adults with disordered eating. A scoping review was conducted between September 2020 and August 2021. Participants included those 18 years or older who were diagnosed with a DSM-5 recognized eating disorder or showing disordered eating pathology. We hypothesized that HAES would be a successful treatment approach for patients recovering from eating disorders, and that a focus on body size and weight would exacerbate and even cause eating disorder pathology. A weight-neutral approach to eating …

This work deals with the comparison of the productivity of intensive grazing systems (IGS) in the French West Indies, used for meat production with cattle, goat and sheep. IGS are based upon the use of irrigated, fertilized, and high stocked (1.8 to 1.4 t live weight/ha/year) and rotational grazing Digitaria decumbens pastures. They lie upon good performance levels of local breeds, Creole cattle and Creole goats of Guadeloupe and Martinik ewes, and upon improved general husbandry. Both sheep and goat in IGS exhibit high levels of productivity. They reached up to 1000 kg LW of weaned offsprings and 1400 kg …
Potential Of Crop Rotation Using Forages In The Tropics, P. L. Mafongoya
Potential Of Crop Rotation Using Forages In The Tropics, P. L. Mafongoya
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Soil fertility is a fundamental biophysical root cause of food insecurity sub-Saharan Africa. Low quality crop residues and grasses during the dry season also limit animal productivity. Forage legumes (herbaceous and tree legumes) have great potential to increase crop animal productivity. Technologies have been developed over the past 3 decades to fully integrate forage legumes into farming. Most of these technologies are still on shelves with low adoption by farmers. Rhe role of forage legumes in nutrient cycling is reviewed in this paper. The factor limiting adoption will also be discussed. Innovative dissemination pathways to increase adoption will be suggested.
