Integration And Evaluation Of A New Nlp Method To Enhance The Performance Of Conversation Based Adaptive Instructional System (Cbais), Lijia Wang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The proposed Master thesis is to develop, implement, and evaluate a new method that dramatically increases the efficiency and accuracy of conversation-based adaptive instruction systems (CbAISs). The outcome of the work will directly serve the ElectronixTutor (sponsored by the US Navy) project. The method developed will be applicable to Conversation-based AISs universally and domain-free.The work is guided by the cognitive principle of human learning. It is proven that one-to-one teaching achieves much better learning gain compared with teaching in traditional classrooms. The observed advantages of one-on-one teaching are largely due to the fact that it is adaptive and individualized. After …

Socio-Economic Disparity In Food Consumption Among Young Children In Eight South Asian And Southeast Asian Countries, Yunhee Kang, Chulwoo Park, Anna Marie Pacheco Young, Jihye Kim
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES
This study examined socio-economic differences in diverse food consumption among children 6–23 months of age in South Asia and Southeast Asian countries.
SUBJECTS/METHODS
Data from Demographic and Health Surveys in four countries in South Asia (n = 15,749) and four countries in Southeast Asia (n = 10,789) were used. Survey-design adjusted proportions were estimated for the following 10 food items: grains, legumes, dark green leafy vegetables (DGLV), vitamin A-rich fruits, vitamin A-rich vegetables, other fruits and vegetables (OFV), fish, meat, dairy, and eggs. An equity gap was defined as an arithmetic difference in the proportion of each food item …

Dual-Mobility Implants And Constrained Liners In Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty, Emanuele Chisari, Blair Ashley, Ryan Sutton, Garrett Largoza, Marco Dispagna, Nitin Goyal, P. Maxwell Courtney, Javad Parvizi
Rothman Institute Papers
Background
Instability remains the most common complication after revision total hip arthroplasty (THA). The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a difference in aseptic revision rates and survivorship between dual-mobility (DM) and constrained liners (CL) in revision THA.
Methods
We reviewed a consecutive series of 2432 revision THA patients from 2008 to 2019 at our institution and identified all patients who received either a CL or DM bearing. We compared demographics, comorbidities, indications, dislocations, and aseptic failure rates between the two groups. Bivariate and multivariate regression analyses were used to determine risk factors for failure, and …

Non-Consensual Condom Removal In Canadian Law Before And After R. V. Hutchinson, Lise Gotell, Isabel Grant
Non-Consensual Condom Removal In Canadian Law Before And After R. V. Hutchinson, Lise Gotell, Isabel Grant
Dalhousie Law Journal
This paper examines the phenomenon of non-consensual condom removal (NCCR) and its relationship to sexual assault in Canada. Using empirical studies and the insights of feminist theory, we explore the nature of the harms caused by NCCR and contend that this pervasive practice constitutes sexual assault. We then critique the decision of R v Hutchinson, which held that condom sabotage does not negate subjective consent, ignoring the dignitary harms of NCCR. While lower court decisions before Hutchinson recognized that consent to sex with a condom does not include consent to sex without, courts after Hutchinson have struggled to distinguish the …
Equal, But Only Conceptually: Explaining The Phenomenon Of Religious Losses In Contemporary Canadian Constitutional Cases Involving Conflicting Rights, Mike Madden
Dalhousie Law Journal
If there is no hierarchy of rights in Canada, then why does freedom of religion so often seem to lose in cases of conflicts with other rights? This article discusses five recent Canadian cases (involving same-sex marriages, controversial medical practices, the wearing of a niqab, and a Christian university’s sexual conduct policy) in order to expose how the courts regularly characterize freedom of religion as being conceptually equal to other rights, before ruling against freedom of religion on the facts of the particular cases. This phenomenon within Canadian rights jurisprudence is then justified within the article by reference to a …

Utilizing Uas To Support Wildlife Hazard Management Efforts By Airport Operators, Flavio A. C. Mendonca, Ryan Wallace
Publications
The FAA requires airports operating under the Code of Federal Regulations Part 139 to conduct a wildlife hazard assessment (WHA) when some wildlife-strike events have occurred at or near the airport. The WHA should be conducted by a Qualified Airport Wildlife Biologist (QAWB) and must contain several elements, including the identification of the wildlife species observed and their numbers; local movements; daily and seasonal occurrences; and the identification and location of features on and near the airport that could attract wildlife. Habitats and land-use practices at and around the airport are key factors affecting wildlife species and the size of …

Senior Design Project For Engineers
Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery is a locally owned restaurant in Downtown Kennesaw, Georgia. Mitch and Lori Phillips, the owners, opened the restaurant in 2018. The restaurant serves breakfast (with biscuits as its specialty), lunch, coffee, desserts, and specialty cakes. As the business is beginning to outgrow itself, the project manager, Kaela Bellamy, felt it was a need to look at how to best accommodate the growing demand within the new space.

Professional Practices (ART 399)
My two dimensional art has a lot of sharply contrasting values and a sense of humor (and dark humor) to it. My three dimensional work follows the same lines but I also incorporate as much light and shadow as I possibly can.
My influences are mostly based in my childhood and pop culture. Early cyberpunk works like William Gibson and Max Headroom; lowbrow and outsider art like Frank Kozick, the artists of Heavy Metal Magazine, and independent comics; and dark surreal art such as HR Giger, Masahiro Ito, and Heronimous Bosch.
I try to first find art and references that …

Honors Capstones
I worked with the Penguin Players here at Northern Illinois University as their head music director this semester. Penguin Players is a group on campus that puts on a musical with adults with disabilities as the stars. These artists are paired one-on-one with a mentor (usually a special education major) who helps them to learn their lines, songs, and dances. During the show the mentors are on stage with the artists but take a back seat to let the artists step into the spotlight. My job for the show is to teach everyone the songs they perform throughout the show. …

Racial And Social Impacts Of Diabetes Mellitus: An Autobiographical Case Report., Tyler Smith
Racial And Social Impacts Of Diabetes Mellitus: An Autobiographical Case Report., Tyler Smith
Manuscripts, Articles, Book Chapters and Other Papers
Type two diabetes mellitus is a chronic medical condition encountered by physicians providing medical care to adult and pediatric patients. This autobiographical case report discusses type two diabetes from the perspective of positive and negative interactions with the healthcare system in managing diabetes mellitus, especially for a physician of color and underrepresented in medicine. Bias and assumptions occur for some people diagnosed with diabetes mellitus or presumed to have the disease based on age, body habitus, comorbidities, lived environment, race, and ethnicity. I specifically address the social implications of bias experienced by persons of color strictly based on race and …

Getting a Ph.D was an all or nothing venture for Andrew Reinhardt. He already had a job, but he had always wanted a doctorate and a career doing research. So when he had the opportunity to pursue that goal in UD's electro-optics and photonics department, he said he jumped at it, and nothing was going to stop him, not even cerebral palsy and the autism spectrum disorder Asperger's syndrome.
