A Descriptive Study Of Doctoral Graduates’ Perceptions Of Mentoring By Their Dissertation Chairs, Amanda Blount
A Descriptive Study Of Doctoral Graduates’ Perceptions Of Mentoring By Their Dissertation Chairs, Amanda Blount
Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
The purpose of this non-experimental study was to examine doctoral graduates’ satisfaction with the mentoring provided by their dissertation chairs. The relationships between doctoral students and their dissertation chairs can positively or negatively influence a doctoral student’s dissertation journey. The researcher developed and validated a survey to determine doctoral graduates’ perceptions of mentoring by their dissertation chairs based on best practices in the literature. The online survey was announced nationwide using email and social media: 133 graduates from multiple disciplines and institutions responded with complete data. The responses were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of the analyses …

Public Opinion And Knowledge Of Marine Biodiversity In A Coastal Community - Horry County, South Carolina, Arianna R. Trapp
Public Opinion And Knowledge Of Marine Biodiversity In A Coastal Community - Horry County, South Carolina, Arianna R. Trapp
Honors Theses
There is very little research that explores the public attitude toward marine biodiversity loss as an environmental issue. This study aims to provide insight into the disparities in marine conservation education in order to better provide meaningful education opportunities for coastal communities. The data for this research was collected using a series of semi-structured interviews that were conducted as focus groups of participants from Horry County, South Carolina. Residents from North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Loris, and Bucksport were recruited to three focus groups based on their geographical residency. Horry County retirees and students attending Coastal Carolina University were also …
The Transfer Of Motor Skill Practice To The Game: A Review Of Transfer Of Learning Theory And Applications, Silver Dawson
The Transfer Of Motor Skill Practice To The Game: A Review Of Transfer Of Learning Theory And Applications, Silver Dawson
Honors Theses
Abstract
Transfer of learning from practice to competition is a prevalent issue that needs the assistance of professionals in motor behavior and coaching education. This review provides a theoretical and applied overview of transfer of learning and practice design. Lacking the appropriate knowledge and skillset to create an effective practice design does not have to be common for coaches. Athletes and coaches need more evidence of transfer of learning behind their practice design and assessment. This research review gives support to theories and concepts like Fitts and Posner's stages of learning, specificity of learning, schema theory, verbal cues augmented feedback, …

Revised Semiempirical Approach To Predict The Occurrence Of Twinning In Titanium Alloys, Chirag Dhirajlal Rabadia, Syed Faraz Jawed, Jincheng Wang, Milind Siddhpura, Arti Siddhpura
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
A revised semiempirical approach, considering the average values of the valence electron to atom ratio (e/a̅) and a difference in atomic radii of alloying element/s and the base element (Δr¯), is proposed to predict the twin formation in titanium alloys. The revised e/ā versus Δr¯ diagram is plotted, considering the reported results of 90 titanium alloys fabricated using various processing methods. A new twin/slip boundary has been plotted and recommended based on the revised e/ā versus Δr¯ diagram. The conventional maximum limit reported for the twinning in titanium alloys is e/ā = 4.20; however, it has been found that twinning …

Stock Returns, Oil Prices, And Leverage: Evidence From U.S. Firms, Md Ruhul Amin, André Varella Mollick
School of Economics and Finance Faculty Publications
This paper examines how the relationship between stock returns of U.S. firms and WTI oil prices is affected by leverage (debt to total assets) from 1990 to 2020. Results from our fixed-effect regression models suggest that leverage effects on stock returns are pervasive both in aggregate and cross-industry levels, while the mining industry is more sensitive. In addition to the positive oil price effects attenuated by leverage at the aggregate level, we observe stronger marginal effects of leverage only for the mining sector. Being more exposed to commodity prices, the positive effects of oil prices on stock returns in the …

Cultivating Culturally Responsive Elementary Teachers In A Suburban Title I School, Angela L. Mack
Doctor of Education in Teacher Leadership Dissertations
Research suggests increased enrollment of students with diverse cultural, racial, linguistic, and social backgrounds will continue in schools across the United States over the coming years; thereby, imposing a challenge for some teachers with differing backgrounds to instruct culturally and linguistically diverse students. Without adequate professional development focused on culturally responsive teaching, it has been purported teachers will continue to adopt deficit perceptions and subpar practices that negatively impact students of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Thus, this study aimed to explore how a series of in-service professional development focused on culture, race, and pedagogy may influence teacher perceptions and …
Health, Productivity, And Engagement: Using Modular Product Design To Integrally Improve The Workplace Environment, Xinyue Guo
Theses
With the fast pace of city life and workplace stress, there are growing concerns in relation to well-being and staying healthy. As a space that has relatively undefined functions in a work environment, breakrooms are increasingly expected to contribute to reducing these concerns. However, the vast majority of workplace breakrooms that exist are insufficiently designed achieving only basic functions such as sitting and eating. This thesis questions why existing workplace breakrooms are so neglected, when they have great potential to play a much more important role in the workplace. Firstly, this thesis discusses current literature and qualitative research on the …

People may think that they can better understand the world through convenient technology in this Internet age. The fact is that even though we can search almost everything on Google, we still live and are confined to a small world. What's worse, big smart data will provide you with "privately customized" information services based on your specific situation. People gradually become accustomed to a voice and are more inclined to think that the world is what they see. This has also led to the fact that people of different social classes and cultural environments may be very different, and they …

As the classroom setting shifted to a virtual one as a result of Covid-19, numerous software are readily available to accommodate for the change, including Canvas, the online course management system. Canvas has a core feature that allows teachers to generate and administer quizzes for students through their interface, but it does not fully utilize the potential with online exams. The first step to exploring this potential is this project, known as Markdown to Question & Test Interoperability (M2QTI). Based on the QTI specifications, this tool lets users to plan and write quizzes in Markdown format. Combined with Canvas’s ability …

WARC files are central to internet preservation projects. They contain the raw resources of web crawled data and can be used to create windows into the past of web pages at the time they were accessed. Yet there are few tools that manipulate WARC files outside of basic parsing. The creation of our tool WARC-KIT gives users in the Node.js JavaScript environment, a tool kit to interact with and manipulate WARC files.
Included with WARC-KIT is a WARC parsing tool known as WARCFilter that can be used standalone tool to parse, filter, and create new WARC files. WARCFilter can also, …
