The Role Of Microorganisms In Rare Earth Elements Bioaccumulation, Maedeh Soleimanifar
The Role Of Microorganisms In Rare Earth Elements Bioaccumulation, Maedeh Soleimanifar
Dissertations
Rare earth elements (REE) are valuable raw materials in our modern life. Extensive REE application from electronic devices to medical instruments and wind turbines, and non-uniform distribution of these resources around the world, make them strategically and economically important for countries. Current REE physical and chemical mining and recycling methods could have negative environmental consequences, and biologically-mediated techniques could be applied to overcome this issue.
In this research, the first objective is to investigate the bioextraction of cerium oxide and neodymium oxide nanoparticles (REE-NP) by a pure culture Methylobacterium extorquens AM1 (ATCC®14718™). Results show that adding up to 1,000 ppm …

Design And Learning-Based Decoding Of Low-Density-Parity-Check Codes For Multiterminal Communication, Salman Habib
Design And Learning-Based Decoding Of Low-Density-Parity-Check Codes For Multiterminal Communication, Salman Habib
Dissertations
The field of information theory was initiated by Claude Shannon in 1948. According to his most notable work, data can be transmitted reliably over a noisy communication channel with high probability, as long as a suitable coding scheme is employed to protect the data from channel noise. Since then, coding theorists have made numerous attempts to design low-complexity error correcting schemes which achieve the Shannon limit.
In the 1960s, Robert Gallager introduced sparse graph-based low-density-parity-check (LDPC) codes which are practically suitable for various coding applications, mainly due to their low encoding and decoding complexity compared to classical codes (e.g., Reed-Muller …
Fluorescence Probes For Bioimaging: Synthesis, Photophysical Properties And Applications, Mehrun Nahar Uddin
Fluorescence Probes For Bioimaging: Synthesis, Photophysical Properties And Applications, Mehrun Nahar Uddin
Dissertations
Fluorescent probes are a vital tool in the study of cell imaging. There are many types of fluorescent probes ranging from inorganic and organic nanoparticles to organic molecules. When used judiciously, they can help provide essential information on cellular structure and function. The introduction of two-photon microscopy has expanded the need for new probes, in particular near-infrared (NIR) absorbing and emitting fluorescent probes. The photochemical and photophysical properties of NIR probes play a crucial role in their effectiveness in cell imaging by both conventional and two-photon excitation (2PE) microscopy. In this research, the synthesis, photophysical properties, and two-photon absorption (2PA) …

From An International English Language Assessment Framework To A Teacher-Based Assessment: A Study Of Primary English Teachers' Agentive Perspectives And Projections, Santi Farmasari
REID (Research and Evaluation in Education)
This study explores four primary English teachers' agentive perspectives about assessment in their schools. Given the challenges brought by the abolition of International Standard School (ISS), the changed status of the school, and the exclusion of English from the 2013 National Education Curriculum (NEC), a teacher-based assessment was the only solution to the unavailability of assessment guidelines and the unsuitability of assessment materials and methods. Employing teacher agency theory, this study examines the agentive sides of the teachers' perspectives as they would represent the teachers' strategic solutions toward the school's emerging problems. The teacher-based assessment was expected to accommodate the …
