The Relationship Between Leadership Style, Job Satisfaction, Nurse Retention, And Patient Care Outcomes: A Systematic Review, Richard Lazarus Nwaorgu
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Poor nurse retention, job dissatisfaction, and reduced patient health outcomes are pervasive issues at the healthcare institution of this project. Institutional data reflects a continual decline in retention and job satisfaction rates, which in 2018 showed a 20% drop in retention and a 25% drop in job satisfaction. The institution’s annual survey identified perceptions about leadership styles that gave rise to negative nursing behaviors and the negative impact on patient care outcomes. The purpose of this systematic review project (SRP) was to identify the relationship between nursing leadership styles, job satisfaction, nurse retention, and patient care outcomes within a hospital …

Content Analysis Of Ethics Curriculum Requirements In Undergraduate Social Work Programs, Debra Evonne Thrower
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Due to recent mandates of the 2015 Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Educational Policies and Accreditation Standards, social work ethics education has received considerable attention. These standards have increased the focus on ethical education requirements in bachelor’s and master’s curricula. However, research regarding approaches that undergraduate institutions use to implement the required content remains limited. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine ethics education requirements in the syllabi from practice courses at CSWE-accredited undergraduate social work programs. Common morality theory and curriculum theory were theoretical frameworks that guided examination of the phenomenon. Data were collected from 51 …
Canadian Prosecutors’ Views On The Use Of Capital Punishment For Defined Terrorist Activity, Aswani Datt
Canadian Prosecutors’ Views On The Use Of Capital Punishment For Defined Terrorist Activity, Aswani Datt
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In the post-9/11 world, Canada has struggled with developing a sentencing regime that effectively punishes and deters defined terrorist activity such as the attack on the Canadian Parliament, the Danforth shootings, the rise of Khalistani and Islamic terrorism, and the Toronto Van Attack. Broadly speaking, the Canadian public still supports capital punishment, but it is unclear whether Canadian prosecutors perceive and view the issue in the same light in their professional and legal capacity. Canadian prosecutors are tasked with seeking sentences that meet criminal justice principles, including the principle of deterrence. Their views on what punishments are just and effective …

A Clinical Practice Guideline For Measuring Quality Of Life In Patients With Depression And Anxiety, Mary Fowaah Boateng
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Mental health conditions affect various aspects of an individual’s quality of life (QOL). Patients with anxiety and depression have a greater risk of having a negative perception of QOL. The gap in practice was the lack of an assessment tool to measure QOL in patients with mental health disorders. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice project was to develop a clinical practice guideline (CPG) recommending the best evidence-based measurement tool for QOL in patients with anxiety and/or depression. The question that guided the CPG was: How should QOL be measured in patients with anxiety and/or depression in the …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Flexible work schedules and remote workplace policies can increase employees’ job satisfaction, health, and productivity; however, approximately 70% of the organizational leaders fail to implement their innovative strategies successfully. Grounded in the factor-oriented conceptual framework proposed by Pryor, Anderson, Toombs and Humphrey, the purpose of this single case study was to explore strategies 7 knowledge workers of financial and accounting services in the Middle East use to implement flexible work policies in their organizations successfully. Semi-structured interviews were conducted through phone and video conferencing, and documents were reviewed to verify data. Thematic analysis and data triangulation between interviews and documents …
Relationships Between Cost Estimates, Scheduling And Project Success In The Construction Sector, Teakon J. Williams
Relationships Between Cost Estimates, Scheduling And Project Success In The Construction Sector, Teakon J. Williams
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Project failure results in adverse productivity and viability of construction organizations. Construction leaders are concerned with project failure because it disrupts construction organizations' ability to be more profitable and sustainable. Grounded in the theory of constraints, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between project cost estimates, project scheduling, and project success. Archival data were collected from 110 construction companies in Liberia. The results of the standard multiple linear regression analysis indicated the full model was statistically significant, F(2,110) = 40.85, p < .001, R2 = .433. The project cost was statistically significant, p <.001; project scheduling was not significant, p = .286. A key recommendation is for project managers to exploit relevant project management training and other capacity development efforts to effectively manage project costs and schedules for success. The implication for positive social change includes the potential to utilize saving from cost and schedule overruns for meaningful programs that will lift the poor and vulnerable by restoring their dignity and enhance their standard of living.

Indigenous Women: Violence, Vulnerability And Cultural Protective Factors, Christina M. Agloinga
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The disproportionate rates of violent crimes, historical oppression, and cultural assimilation disrupted the traditional practices and belief system within Alaskan Native communities, thus changing the influence of protective factors that support balance and equality for women. Identifying protective factors provided by cultural practices that support resiliency provides an increased understanding of how cultural strengths can combat distorted stereotypes within the criminal justice system. This study included characteristics of a phenomenological, narrative, and ethnographic study. The social constructionist framework and the social construction of target populations theory was used to explore how traditional cultural practices can influence the current gender identity, …
Behavioral Strategies And Predicting Impulsive Aggression In Among Students With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Raul Alafa
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Researchers have explored the relationship between the application of written attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) impulsive aggression (IA) behavioral intervention strategies with current public-school educational plans in reducing aggression and how exclusion of behavioral strategies may increase aggression and impact students’ long-term ability to control emotions. However, the social learning theory of aggression suggests that positive self-efficacy and modeling may improve effective coping. This study explored the relationship between aggression as measured by the modified overt aggression scale and the individualized education program (IEP)/504 Plan behavioral strategies’ effectiveness for ADHD aggression as measured by a repeated measured analysis of variance. Data …

Attitudes Toward The Electability Of Atheist And Nontraditional Religious Candidates, Brittany Escobedo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Atheists are underrepresented in political office compared to their numbers in the general population. In the United States, anti-atheist prejudice is prevalent, likely contributing to the disparity in atheist representation. Informed by social identity theory and the sociofunctional approach to prejudice, the purpose of this study was to examine the comparative electability of atheists compared to other minority religious identities, as well as one nonminority option for a baseline reference of attitudes. Using the voter likelihood scale and three 7-point semantic differential scales, 579 participants rated their intention to vote for and their feelings of trust, disgust, and fear toward …

Juvenile Justice Workers’ Perceptions Of Teen Court And Traditional Court, Kesla M. Holder
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The impact of alternative programs for juveniles within the juvenile justice court system was not well understood. Studies such as research from the Annie E. Casey Foundation identified juvenile diversion approaches as an effective method of reducing recidivism in juvenile courts. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to seek understanding of the nontraditional juvenile court process from the perceptions of juvenile justice workers in a local teen court program. Deterrence theory provided the theoretical framework to guide the study. Open-ended survey questions were used to collect data from 11 juvenile justice officers from the local Department of Juvenile …
Mapping The Lived Experiences Of Bisexuals, Barbara Ann Hopkins
Mapping The Lived Experiences Of Bisexuals, Barbara Ann Hopkins
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Bisexuality is often met with binegativity, dismissal, and marginalization due to misconception of identity and behavior and its consideration as a transitional phase before the adoption of a monosexual identity. There is a lack of in-depth research regarding bisexuality apart from lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender/sexual studies; it is important to understand and differentiate bisexuality as a separate identity rather than a subset of heterosexual or homosexual identities. The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of bisexuals through the lens of sexual configurations theory (SCT). SCT is a relatively new theory that has yet …

Educator Perceptions Of Restorative Justice Practices That Provide Academic Support For Students With Adverse Childhood Experiences, Brigid Sullivan Ripley
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The phenomenon of adverse childhood experiences (ACE) has been of interest to scholars since the late 1990s when their impact on life outcomes concerning physical and mental health was first acknowledged. Educators are challenged to support students who have experienced ACE, but many have implemented alternative practices such as restorative justice (RJ) to support students’ academic needs. There is insufficient empirical evidence to determine how elements of RJ support high school students who have experienced ACE. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate the RJ practices that teachers, administrators, and other school personnel have implemented to support …

Competent Office Staffing For Minority, Women-Owned, And Local Business Enterprise Contractors Via Workforce Development, Ralston C. O'Connor
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractConversations about workforce development in the construction industry are centered around improving the construction trade skills of displaced workers or other unskilled or untrained individuals. Rarely will that conversation focus on the administrative skills necessary for contractor success, particularly in public works construction where administrative oversight is a challenge for the minority, women-owned, and local business enterprise (MWLBE) community. Anecdotal data indicated that MWLBE contractors are skilled at their trades and have little or no problem accessing a skilled labor force. Where these contractors tend to fall short is in the administrative requirements of government contracts. The purpose of this …
