Let Me Get My Glasses, I Can’T Hear You: Sheet Music, Copyright, And Led Zeppelin, Brandon P. Evans
Let Me Get My Glasses, I Can’T Hear You: Sheet Music, Copyright, And Led Zeppelin, Brandon P. Evans
Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment & Technology Law
Musical copyright infringement cases are experiencing an identity crisis. The crisis is that courts are beginning their analyses of the similarities between compositions by examining visual, rather than aural, evidence. Prior to the 1976 Copyright Act, copyright protection extended only to musical works reduced to sheet music. That sheet music, which is filed with the US Copyright Office (Copyright Office) as a “deposit copy,” represents the sum of the composition’s copyright protection. Even though Congress amended the Copyright Act to allow for sound recordings of a composition to function as a deposit copy post-1976, courts—particularly the Ninth Circuit—begin evaluating musical …
Prediction Intervals For Fractionally Integrated Time Series And Volatility Models, Rukman Ekanayake
Prediction Intervals For Fractionally Integrated Time Series And Volatility Models, Rukman Ekanayake
Doctoral Dissertations
"The two of the main formulations for modeling long range dependence in volatilities associated with financial time series are fractionally integrated generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (FIGARCH) and hyperbolic generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (HYGARCH) models. The traditional methods of constructing prediction intervals for volatility models, either employ a Gaussian error assumption or are based on asymptotic theory. However, many empirical studies show that the distribution of errors exhibit leptokurtic behavior. Therefore, the traditional prediction intervals developed for conditional volatility models yield poor coverage. An alternative is to employ residual bootstrap-based prediction intervals. One goal of this dissertation research is to develop …
Analysis Of Turbulence Model Uncertainty For Canonical Flow Problems Including Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction Simulations, Aaron James Erb
Analysis Of Turbulence Model Uncertainty For Canonical Flow Problems Including Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction Simulations, Aaron James Erb
Doctoral Dissertations
"The purpose of this research is to present results of an uncertainty and sensitivity analysis study of commonly used turbulence models in Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) codes due to the epistemic uncertainty in closure coefficients for a set of turbulence model validation cases that represent the structure of several canonical flow problems. The study focuses on the analysis of a 2D zero pressure gradient flat plate, a 2D wall mounted hump, and an axisymmetric shock wave boundary layer interaction, all of which are well documented on the NASA Langley Research Center Turbulence Modeling Resource website. The Spalart-Allmaras (SA), the Wilcox (2006) …
Modeling Time Series With Conditional Heteroscedastic Structure, Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Isuru Panduka Ratnayake
Modeling Time Series With Conditional Heteroscedastic Structure, Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Isuru Panduka Ratnayake
Doctoral Dissertations
"Models with a conditional heteroscedastic variance structure play a vital role in many applications, including modeling financial volatility. In this dissertation several existing formulations, motivated by the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedastic model, are further generalized to provide more effective modeling of price range data well as count data. First, the Conditional Autoregressive Range (CARR) model is generalized by introducing a composite range-based multiplicative component formulation named the Composite CARR model. This formulation enables a more effective modeling of the long and short-term volatility components present in price range data. It treats the long-term volatility as a stochastic component that in …
Investigation Of Packed Bed And Moving Bed Reactors With Benchmarking Using Advanced Measurement And Computational Techniques, Binbin Qi
Doctoral Dissertations
"Trickle bed reactors (TBR), as typical packed bed reactors (PBR), are widely used in various fields. Very limited information regarding the flow behaviors, hydrodynamic, and mathematical models in extrudate catalyst shapes, such as cylinders, trilobes, and quadrilobes, can be found in literatures because the major focus was on spherical shape. Therefore, a hybrid pressure drops and liquid holdup phenomenological model for extrudate catalyst shapes was developed based on two-phase volume averaged equations, which showed high accuracy against experimental data. The maldistribution and dynamic liquid holdup were investigated in quadrilobe catalyst using gamma-ray computed tomography. A pseudo-3D empirical model was developed …

Chitosan/Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Composite Scaffold Incorporated With Trichostatin A For Bone Regeneration, Teerawat Sukpaita
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study synthesized a chitosan-based scaffold incorporated with trichostatin A (TSA), an epigenetic modifier molecule, using a freeze-drying technique to achieve promising bone regeneration potential. The scaffolds with various biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) proportions: 0%, 10%, 20%, and 40% were characterized. The addition of BCP improved the scaffolds' mechanical properties and delayed the degradation rate. From all physicochemical parameters, 20% BCP scaffold matched the appropriate bone scaffold requirements and was selected for further development. The proper concentration of TSA was also tested. Our developed scaffold released TSA and sustained them for up to 3 days. The scaffold with 800 nM …

Using Deep Learning Technique For Price Action Analysis In Gold Trading, Kwan Boon-Long
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
We introduce a new structural deep learning model purposing is to be able to learn price action trading features that subjective traders are using to make trading decisions based on the visual recent and actual price movements, rather than relying solely on technical indicators. The model combines convolutional neural networks (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) to improve the trend forecasting of gold prices for better trading signals compared to traditional strategies. As the gold price is a time series data, it is appropriate to apply CNN and LSTM for forecasting. The concept of our model is that CNN could …

Natural Rubber Films Reinforced With Cellulose And Chitosan Prepared By Latex Aqueous Microdispersion, Naipaporn Sutipanwihan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Plastics are one of the derived products from petroleum material, which have been used in many applications worldwide, because of their various properties. However, plastic wastes create toxic environmental pollutions and problems because of their toxic constituents and non-biodegradability. Accordingly, nature materials have been proposed as a substitute for petroleum materials for bioplastic production. Natural rubber (NR) is a product from natural, which is well-known for its high elasticity. However, there are some drawbacks such as low tensile strength and low abrasion resistance. Moreover, its applications are also limited because of its poor resistance to oil and solvents. Therefore, the …

Techno-Economic Analysis Of Monoglyceride And Diglyceride Production From Waste Cooking Oil, Napat Olarachin
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Monoglycerides (MGs) and their derivatives are widely used and considered the most important group of emulsifiers. These emulsifiers can be produced from waste cooking oils (WCOs) via two-step transesterification-glycerolysis or hydrolysis-glycerolysis processes. The transesterification-glycerolysis process has the advantages in terms of a high reaction rate and a high process yield. For hydrolysis, triglycerides are converted to free fatty acids (FFA) at higher reaction temperature, but water is used as a reactant. Therefore, the separation process is not complicated. This study simulated the techno-economic comparison of four different scenarios of MG and DG production using ASPEN Plus V11 simulation software. In …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Calcium oxalate (CaOx) urolithiasis is one of the most common stone components which frequently occurs in both humans and dogs. Hypercalciuria is one of the predisposing factors commonly found in both people and dogs with calcium urolithiasis. The genetic factors are also involved with the pathogenesis of stone formation, and the relationship between calcium handling and vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphisms has been demonstrated to be related to calcium urolithiasis in human populations. Moreover, some urinary proteins may be involved in the process of stone formation. The present study aimed firstly to evaluate the relationship between VDR polymorphism in dog …
In Silico And In Vitro Studies On Inclusion Complexation Of Anthraquinone Derivatives With Beta-Cyclodextrin Derivatives, Amy Oo
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In this study, we investigated the cytotoxicity of 6 anthraquinones (ventilanone K, emodin, chrysophanol, aurantio-obtusin, 1-O-methyl-2-methyoxychrysophanol, and questin) toward A549 lung cancer cells and emodin (ED) exerted the most potent cytotoxicity with IC50 value of 34.27 ± 1.27 µM. The anti-cancer activity of ED has been well reported but its usage in practical applications has been restricted due to its poor solubility. To address this issue, we performed inclusion complexation of ED with βCD, hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD), 2,6-di-O-methyl-β-cyclodextrin (DMβCD), and sulfobutylether-β-cyclodextrin (SBEβCD) theoretically using molecular dynamics simulations and experimentally using phase solubility study and cytotoxicity screening toward cholangiocarcinoma cell lines (KKU-213A …
