In this retrospective, national-wide, population-based cohort study, SCI patients with registration in the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) from 1998 to 2013 were included. We investigated the risk of BC in SCI patients administered voiding function medications and other comorbidities by 2-year landmark analysis. The Health Insurance Resources Utilization And Rehabilitation Intervention In Patients With Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury: A Pilot Study, Pao Huang, Jen-Hung Wang, Chih-Cheng Fan, Po-Ting Chen, Chung-Chao Liang

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Spinal cord injury is associated with a substantial and long-term economic burden on both the patients and the national health insurance. Due to the advancements in medical techniques, the mortality rate of patients with spinal cord injury has decreased. Moreover, as the life expectancy has increased in Taiwan, patients with spinal cord injury may need long-term rehabilitation to restore their functions of daily living and prevent further complications. Nonetheless, long-term rehabilitation would increase the economic burden on the long-term care facilities, as expected. This study aimed to analyze the impact (from admission to 3-year follow-up after discharge) of medical expenses …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disease that primarily afflicts older adults. The mainstream management of knee OA involves integrative practice, including patient education, weight reduction, exercise, pharmacological therapy, and non-pharmacological modalities. However, prolotherapy with hypertonic dextrose via either intra-articular or periarticular injection, or a combination of both techniques, has become a strong evidence-based treatment or adjuvant therapy that may be used in addition to conservative management. In the literature, two studies have compared the effects of intra-articular and periarticular prolotherapy for knee OA and reveal comparable effects. In addition, the periarticular approach has fewer side effects and post-injection pain. …
