The strangeness of Meursault in The Stranger by CamusThe strangeness of Meursault in The Stranger by Camus
The Stranger by Camus, published in 1942 has given the rise of several controversies and criticisms. The proliferation of publications on the subject of this remarkable story removes its scope both literary and philosophical by studying a set of criticisms reserved for this book. We were able to prepare this file which deals with the question of the foreigner.

Geochemical And Sensor-Based Monitoring Of Fault-Associated Carbonic Springs In Grand Canyon And Northern New Mexico: Identifying Hydrologic Pathways And Establishing Baselines, Chris Mcgibbon
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
This dissertation examines the interaction of spring systems and faulting. When springs discharge within a fault zone the interaction is often complex, and multiple methods are required to understand the flow, mixing and evolution of groundwater. In karst aquifer systems fracture networks can range from sub-millimeter to meters and only adds to the complexities involved in examining spring hydrology. The Interest in springs and faulting is not only driven by science, but also has applied applications. Faulting and fluid flow are of interest to the oil and gas industry, and potential CO2 sequestration. In the southwestern US, water quantity …

Broadband Access, District Policy, And Student Opportunities For Remote Learning During Covid-19 School Closures, Susan Kemper Patrick, Jason A. Grissom, S. Colby Woods, Urleaka W. Newsome
Teaching and Learning Faculty Research
We conceptualize students’ opportunities to learn remotely during the initial school closures associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. We then examine variation in remote instruction using an original statewide survey of teachers in Tennessee, deployed just a few weeks into the closures. Using three-level logistic regression models, we explore potential predictors of regular remote instruction, including prepandemic measures of broadband access, the demographic composition of schools, and measures of district policy responses created from districts’ public COVID-19 plans. We find that teachers in schools serving more economically disadvantaged students and in rural districts are less likely to report regular remote instruction, …

Believing anxiety can change is a predictor of wellbeing, in part, because such beliefs – known as growth mindsets – predict weaker threat appraisals, which in turn improves psychological functioning. However, feeling a sense of personal threat facilitates social activism, and thus growth mindsets may undermine such action. Across six studies (N = 1761), including cross-sectional and experimental approaches (3 pre-registered), growth mindsets predict flourishing, including wellbeing, resilience, and grit. We find that growth mindsets indirectly predict reduced activism against social threats through reduced threat appraisals, which are critical motivators of activism. The total effect linking growth mindsets to activism …

Applying The Integrated Marketing Communication Approach To Recruit And Retain African American Women, Traci Hayes, Manoj Sharma
Social and Behavioral Health Faculty Research
Background: Researchers use multiple approaches to engage and maintain underrepresented populations in research. They often overlook integrated marketing communication (IMC), a useful approach for commercial marketing, for more established health promotion and social marketing techniques. There is limited information on the application of the IMC approach for recruiting and retaining African American study participants. This article explores the IMC approach used to recruit and retain volunteers for a community-based intervention. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study relying on extracted data from the Multi-Theory Model (MTM) of Health Behavior Physical Activity intervention. A brief multiple-choice survey was administered to a sample …
Health Care Capacity Surge Strategies, Jennifer L. Wenhold
Health Care Capacity Surge Strategies, Jennifer L. Wenhold
Florida Public Health Review
While streamlining emergency powers might offer some advantages, recent events demonstrate how Florida’s Department of Health worked collaboratively to address the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. As Florida began experiencing a need for increased health care capacity, Division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) officials reviewed health care practitioners’ licensing and regulatory framework to identify mitigation strategies to boost staffing of front-line responders where needed. Florida officials responded quickly to the spread of COVID-19 and adopted health care workforce strategies that were grouped into three categories: (1) those involving licensed practitioners, (2) those involving soon-to-be licensed practitioners, and (3) those …

The Effects Of Deepfakes And Synthetic Media On Communication Professionals, Axel Ebermann
Student Theses and Dissertations
The spread of misinformation and disinformation is regarded as one of the most salient challenges for communication professionals around the world.
Now, a new technology called "DeepFakes" or “Synthetic Media” has the potential to further uproot the infosphere. Artificial Intelligence (AI) will enable the mass creation of synthetic audio-visual content that resembles real videos, in which people will appear to say or do things they never actually said or did.
The existing literature predominantly focuses on three aspects of DeepFakes and Synthetic Media: the technical background, coverage of preexisting DeepFakes and possible solutions to combat the malicious use of the …

President's Blog: From the Heart
"As you enter the world outside this campus, I urge you to build a bigger table. Invite others with alternative viewpoints and those who look different from you to join you around your table. And, most importantly, stay at that table when conflicts and tensions arise," I told the Class of 2021 at winter commencement.

Marketing Automation Customers Segmentation, Hamad Murad
Theses
Understanding the various facets of a customer’s data is very important for businesses. This insight can help them identify patterns and opportunities to improve their operations. RFM values are often used to identify which customers are valuable for a company. They are then used to identify which promotional activities are most appropriate for them. K-means clustering is an unsupervised learning technique that works when you have unlabeled data. It allows the identification of new data points and groups. This paper proposes a novel approach that combines data cleaning and analyzing customer data to divide a broad market into various consumer …

Development Of A Liquid Hydrogen Combustion High Bypass Turbofan Model In Npss, Richard Carter
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study
A Liquid Hydrogen combustion model in NPSS has been developed for use on a conventional single aisle, twin engine subsonic commercial aircraft. This study describes the development of the engine model with N+3 technology parameters which is validated against published engine cycle data. The model is then used to run liquid hydrogen fuel in NPSS, and emissions calculations are performed based on engine emissions data for current technology level cycles. A full description of the emissions calculations is given as well as the performance comparison of conventional aviation fuel vs. hydrogen.
