Real-Time Monitoring Of Cell Death Progress Using Capacitance Spectroscopy, Suyang Wu Dec 2021

Real-Time Monitoring Of Cell Death Progress Using Capacitance Spectroscopy, Suyang Wu

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Biologics, including the monoclonal antibody (mAb), has experienced rapid development in the last decade. However, the price of biologics is often prohibitively high because of the low process efficiency. Delaying the inevitable cell death improves the productivity of upstream bioprocessing, whose success relies on monitoring the cell death onset that indicates the timing for preventive actions.

This study proposes to develop a real-time monitoring model that quantifies the dying cell percentage in lab-scale bioreactors using capacitance spectroscopy. The capacitance spectroscopy contains cell death-related information due to various physical properties changes during the cell death process, e.g., cytoplasmic conductivity change. The …

It’S Hapi Hour: An Action Plan On Preventing Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injuries, Emira Maureen A. Romero

Master's Projects and Capstones

Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injuries (HAPIs) are detrimental to both the hospital and the patient as they are costly, painful, and can lead to further infection and an increased length of stay. Although this problem is seen across the country, this action plan focuses on a microsystem (i.e. medical-surgical telemetry unit) in Hospital A in the San Francisco Bay Area. The target population includes medical-surgical telemetry patients at high risk for HAPIs (i.e. Braden score <18, moisture/mobility scores <2, patients with devices at risk for device-related pressure injuries). The proposed intervention is an evidence-based HAPI prevention bundle that includes utilization of wound care champions and turn teams, increasing attendance of daily huddles, implementing a standardized algorithm for escalation and documentation, and reinforcement of evidence-based HAPI prevention measures. Effectiveness of this bundle will be measured through chart audits, nursing questionnaires, and staff interviews. These measures will be conducted 12 months post-implementation and findings will be compared to the baseline data in order to investigate whether there is a reduction in HAPI incidence. Since this project is currently in the Study phase of the proposed Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycle, this action plan concludes with recommendations of how the team can continue to move forward in addressing the project’s specific aim.

Evidence Based Repositioning Strategies To Improve Pressure Injury Rates, Ivan E. Dorsey

Master's Projects and Capstones

Pressure injuries (PI) affect approximately 1-3 million people in the United States annually, and amount to 3-11 billion dollars in yearly healthcare costs (Mondragon et al., 2021; Padula & Delarmente, 2019). In veterans who seek care, especially the elderly (>65 y/o), pressure injuries are particularly devastating because they increase hospital costs and lengthen stays (Stroupe et al., 2011). In light of these statistics, the aim of this project was to decrease PI rates in veteran patients through the implementation of evidence-based practice. This project was conducted on a medical/surgical telemetry unit with 18 beds at a Northern California hospital …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

This is a review of research on "Precision Behavioral Management" of substance use disorder (SUD). America is experiencing a high prevalence of substance use disorder, primarily involving legal and illegal opioid use. A 3000% increase in treatment for substance abuse has occurred between 2000 and 2016. Unfortunately, present day treatment of opioid abuse involves providing replacement therapy with powerful opioids to, at best, induce harm reduction, not prophylaxis. These interventions do not enhance gene expression and restore the balance of the brain reward system's neurotransmitters. We are proposing a generalized approach called "Precision Behavioral Management". This approach includes 1) using …
