Image Encryption Paillier Homomorphic Cryptosystem, Zainab Mohammed, Hala Bahjat, Abdul Mohssen Jaber Abdul Hossen

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering

With the increasing use of media in communications, both academia and industry pay attention to the content security of digital images. This research presents a Homomorphic cryptosystem-based asymmetric picture encryption technique (Paillier). The algorithm is used for securing images that transmit over public unsecured channels. The Homomorphic property is used in this paper, which is comprised of three steps: key generation, encryption, and decryption. To realize such approach, the encryption cryptosystem must support additional operation over encrypted data. This cryptosystem can be effective in protecting images and supporting the construction of programs that can process encrypted input and produce encrypted …

China Maritime Report No. 17: The Pla Army's New Helicopters: An "Easy Button" For Crossing The Taiwan Strait?, Tom Fox

CMSI China Maritime Reports

This report examines the potential roles and missions of the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) new rotary wing capabilities in a cross-strait invasion. Looking specifically at the helicopter units of the PLA Army (PLAA), it discusses two possible scenarios in which these forces could serve as the main thrust in a campaign to seize control of Taiwan. In the first scenario, the PLAA would use nearly all of its rotary wing inventory simultaneously to overwhelm Taiwan’s defenses and quickly convince the country’s political leadership to surrender. In a second “unconventional” scenario, the PLAA would risk the destruction of older helicopters in …

Improving Stroke Unit Numbers And Care In Pakistan, Abubakar Siddique, Umair Rashid Ch, Ahsan Numan Dec 2021

Improving Stroke Unit Numbers And Care In Pakistan, Abubakar Siddique, Umair Rashid Ch, Ahsan Numan

Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences (PJNS)

t is self-evident that stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and disability not only in the world but also in Pakistan. The prevalence of stroke risk factors and epidemiological studies shows that the burden of stroke will not decrease in the next decades and beyond. It poses a huge challenge for the affected and their families, for medical services, governments and the society as a whole. The promising thing about stroke is that it is preventable, treatable and manageable and there is potential to drastically reduce the burden of stroke and the long term consequences.1 However, this …

Overparticipation: Designing Effective Land Use Public Processes, Anika Singh Lemar Dec 2021

Overparticipation: Designing Effective Land Use Public Processes, Anika Singh Lemar

Fordham Law Review

There are more opportunities for public participation in the planning and zoning process today than there were in the decades immediately after states adopted the first zoning enabling acts. As a result, today, public participation, dominated by nearby residents, drives most land use planning and zoning decisions. Enhanced public participation rights are often seen as an unqualified good, but there is a long history of public participation and community control cementing racial segregation, entrenching exclusion, and preventing the development of affordable housing in cities and suburbs alike. Integrating community engagement into an effective administrative process requires addressing the various ways …

Copyright’S Techno-Pessimist Creep, Xiyin Tang Dec 2021

Copyright’S Techno-Pessimist Creep, Xiyin Tang

Fordham Law Review

Government investigations and public scrutiny of Big Tech are at an all-time high. While current legal scholarship and government focus have centered overwhelmingly on whether and how antitrust law and § 230 of the Communications Decency Act can be revised to address platform dominance, scant attention has been paid to another, almost unseen attempt to regulate Big Tech: copyright law. The recent adoption in Europe of Article 17 of the Copyright Directive, which holds internet platforms liable for user-generated creative content unless they obtain costly content licenses, is the most direct example of such regulation—and may serve as precedent for …

“Community Guidelines”: The Legal Implications Of Workplace Conditions For Internet Content Moderators, Anna Drootin Dec 2021

“Community Guidelines”: The Legal Implications Of Workplace Conditions For Internet Content Moderators, Anna Drootin

Fordham Law Review

Content moderation is the internet’s not-so-secret, dirty little secret. Content moderators are working around the world, and around the clock, to scrub the internet of horrific content. Most moderators work for low pay and with little or no health care benefits. The content they are exposed to leaves them vulnerable to a number of different mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder. Their work is often hidden from users and is de-emphasized by the technology industry. This Note explores potential solutions to the labor and employment issues inherent in content moderation work and suggests that there could be a path …

Qui Tam And The Bank Secrecy Act: A Public-Private Enforcement Model To Improve Anti-Money Laundering Efforts, Giovanni Scarcella Dec 2021

Qui Tam And The Bank Secrecy Act: A Public-Private Enforcement Model To Improve Anti-Money Laundering Efforts, Giovanni Scarcella

Fordham Law Review

Cartels, terrorists, fraudsters, and other criminals face a problem: when they receive the proceeds from their illicit activities, how can they get this money into their bank accounts without raising regulatory eyebrows? The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) has established a complex regulatory regime, imposing on banks the duty to assess the risks presented by their clients, to monitor the transactions they process, and to report transactions that contain indicia of money laundering and other criminal activity to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). In response, criminals utilize increasingly sophisticated means to obfuscate the origins of these transactions and disguise their …

Absolute Neutral Densities And Temperatures And Their Climatologies In The Middle Atmosphere Using An Optimal Estimation Method With Rayleigh-Scatter Lidar Observations Obtained At Utah State University, Jonathan L. Price

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The Earth’s atmosphere is comprised of layers which can be defined by their temperature characteristics. These layers are the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere and thermosphere. The region where life exists is in the troposphere, however the study of the layers above is important as changes in these regions can directly impact, or indicate significant changes in, weather in the troposphere. The mesosphere is the least well-known region because it is the most difficult to observe. One of the best tools for observing this region is the Rayleigh-scatter lidar. It is capable of remotely observing the entirety of the mesosphere with good …

Characterizing Relational Values To Inform Message-Framing At The Boa Ogoi Historical Site, Cole G. Stocker

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

In an increasingly polarized political climate–particularly in the U.S.– environmental issues such as climate change and its effects on the environment have become hot-button partisan talking points resulting in further division. This has led to research on ways to communicate science which does not further inflame political tensions, but rather reinforces and validates the audience’s values. Science communication research provides the foundation for my case study, which focuses on characterizing the environmental values and worldviews of land managers residing and working near the Boa Ogoi Historical Site in southern Idaho. The Northwest Band of Shoshone Nation (NWBSN) is in the …

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Children receiving special education are often exposed to a variety of learning strategies. Care providers may use an array of different strategies when describing therapeutic approaches to parents (including the use of technical or layman terminology), and research has indicated that the use of technical terminology may influence individuals’ perceptions of behavior therapy. This study examined the use of behavioral and layman terminology and video models to see if it affected parents’ preference between Discrete Trial Teaching, and Naturalistic Teaching. Participants were parents with children receiving special education services between the ages of 2-5 years old. Data were collected by …

The Plant Growth Promoting Ability Of The Microbiome Of Ceanothus Velutinus From The Intermountain West Region, Jyothsna Ganesh

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Due to the ever-changing climate and deterioration of the earth’s ecosystem, environmental stresses like abiotic (drought, salinity) and biotic stresses (pathogen infection) gravely affected plant growth. Native plants are a great way of improving these effects on the urban landscape. They can be used as ornamental plants in landscaping as they are accustomed to their natural environment. The Center for Water-Efficient Landscaping at Utah State University has released a list of plants to be used for low water use landscaping. One such native plant is Ceanothus velutinus (snowbrush ceanothus). They are evergreen plants that can grow in dry and harsh …

The framework was constructed from the nine tenets of Tribal Critical Race Theory …

Control Of Three Invasive Annual Grasses In Utah Using Herbicides Including Indaziflam, Hailey L. Buell Dec 2021

Control Of Three Invasive Annual Grasses In Utah Using Herbicides Including Indaziflam, Hailey L. Buell

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Invasive grasses pose a threat to rangeland ecosystems in Utah. Three grasses in particular: downy brome, medusahead, and ventenata can push out native plants and prevent other vegetation from germinating. These grasses can also degrade grazing lands for cattle and act as kindling for wildfires. The use of herbicides is the most common way to rid a site of invasive plants. Herbicides that prevent germination for many years work well to keep annual grasses at bay while not harming the many long-living native plants that are already growing.

A study was designed on a site infested with downy brome to …

Raising The Level Of Environmental Concern Of Senior Students Taking The Electronics Engineering Laws And Ethics Through Climate Change Awareness Study, King Harold A. Recto, Romano Q. Neyra Dec 2021

Raising The Level Of Environmental Concern Of Senior Students Taking The Electronics Engineering Laws And Ethics Through Climate Change Awareness Study, King Harold A. Recto, Romano Q. Neyra

Electronics, Computer, and Communications Engineering Faculty Publications

Two general areas that future electronics engineers are honed are competence and character. Most of the courses he takes fall in the general area of competence. This includes subjects like Circuit Theory, Electronic Design and Analysis, Communication Systems, and the like. Subjects dealing with character, in contrast, are limited. In some universities, it may just be Electronics Engineering (ECE) Laws and Ethics and the focus is on “engineering made by man for man.” In this traditional view of Engineering, the environment is often neglected since it’s not about “man” (as opposed to the “society”). Over the last years, however, concerns …

Toward Rehumanization: Creolized Solidarity And Practical Empathy, Michelle India Miller Dec 2021

Toward Rehumanization: Creolized Solidarity And Practical Empathy, Michelle India Miller

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

This project seeks to engage political theory surrounding processes of creolization and solidarity, as well as their usefulness towards political movements. Current socialization within the United States promotes individualism and, as a result, an inability to see how various sociopolitical issues interact with one another and affect large portions of the population in ways that are not always obvious. Through a commitment to open engagement and practical empathy, creolized solidarity could provide a baseline from which to evaluate prevalent issues as well as our relationships with one another, the natural connection that comes from simply being human.

Chapters Two and Three respectively consider depictions of Baroque and then …

Using The Cataloguing Code Of Ethics Principles For A Retrospective Project Analysis, Angela Yon, Eric Willey Dec 2021

Using The Cataloguing Code Of Ethics Principles For A Retrospective Project Analysis, Angela Yon, Eric Willey

Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library

This study uses the recently released Cataloguing Code of Ethics to evaluate a project which explored how to ethically, efficiently, and accurately add demographic terms for African American authors to catalog records. By reviewing the project through the lens of these principles the authors were able to examine how their practice was ethical in some ways but could have been improved in others. This helped them identify areas of potential improvement in their current and future research and practice and explore ethical difficulties in cataloging resources with records that are used globally, especially in a linked data environment.

Cultivating A Community Of Practice Model To Support And Encourage Innovative T&L Practices To Engage Practitioners And Enhance Student Success, Jen Harvey, Derek Dodd, Catherine Deegan, Olivia Freeman, Cormac H. Macmahon, Helen Williams

Irish Journal of Academic Practice

Communities of Practice (CoPs) are naturally forming groups of individuals who come together through a shared passion or goal and learn collectively by reciprocating knowledge and experiences. With competing demands of faculty, universities are increasingly challenged to provide professional development opportunities that actively encourage innovative pedagogical practices to enhance student success and quality of the learner experience. We report on four embryonic CoPs, based on collaborative processes, supporting institutional transformation and the formation of a new education model at Ireland’s first Technological University (TU). Juxtaposing a series of planned learning innovations with spontaneous interactions and actions of CoP members, we …

Centering The Emotional Labor Of Writing Tutors, Bethany Mannon Dec 2021

Centering The Emotional Labor Of Writing Tutors, Bethany Mannon

The Writing Center Journal

Writing consultants regularly perform emotional labor. They suppress or express emotions to welcome clients and invoke enthusiasm to cultivate writers’ confidence. Because emotional labor performs these crucial functions, it merits focused attention in writing center studies. However, while research has considered the emotional needs that writers bring, scholars have not yet sufficiently examined the affective engagements that consultations require of writing consultants. The first section of this article presents a case for treating affective dimensions of tutoring as labor. The second section analyzes five tutor-training manuals using the Specific Affect Coding System (SPAFF) to identify references to emotion and affect …

Composing An Anti-Racism And Social Justice Statement At A Rural Writing Center, Amanda Fields Dec 2021

Composing An Anti-Racism And Social Justice Statement At A Rural Writing Center, Amanda Fields

The Writing Center Journal

This article describes the year-long collaborative composing process of a rural writing center seeking to develop an anti-racism and social justice statement. The author reflects on the way in which rural perspectives are often dismissed, often seen as provincial and hostile towards ideas that might be included in an anti-racism and social justice statement. The piece also connects theories of composing, fluidity, and identity to the writing of the statement and provides a detailed analysis of the lengthy, often challenging composing process used. The author finds that the collaborative composing process, more than the resulting statement, was significant to the …
