Small Farmers’ Use Of Social Media And Other Channels For Marketing Their Agricultural Products, Carlos Alberto Moreno-Ortiz, Donna J. Peterson Dr., Alba J. Collart, Laura Downey, Susan Seal, Roberto Gallardo
Journal of Extension
We examined small farmers’ use of and preference for different channels for marketing agricultural products and explored differences by gender, age group, and education level. Farmers markets and social media were preferred channels, with participants under age 55 being more likely than those 55 and over to prefer and use social media and agree that social media would be useful for promoting products and increasing sales. While selling via social media could provide a larger market, one challenge is that the average age of Mississippi farm operators is 59. Therefore, Extension must consider multiple approaches for delivering training on marketing.

Art Is Long; Life Isn't Randolph Caldecott In America And In Florida, John Cech
Florida Historical Quarterly
Randolph Caldecott, the noted British illustrator, began his first and last visit to the United States and eventually to Florida in November 1885. Born in 1846, Caldecott was nearly forty and near the end of his life at the time of the journey. Friends had encouraged him to spend the worst part of the winter of 1885-1886 in St. Augustine, Florida, and the American South, away from the bleak English weather that often threatened to break his fragile health. Caldecott suffered, for most of his relatively short life, from a heart condition, the aftereffects of a childhood bout with rheumatic …

Pensacola, Florida: A Military City In The New South, James R. Mcgovern
Pensacola, Florida: A Military City In The New South, James R. Mcgovern
Florida Historical Quarterly
When Henry Grady extolled the emergence of the “New South,” he was primarily referring to the advent of an urban industrial civilization in that region; his conception of the “New South” did not foresee the possibility that urbanism in many southern communities would occur without industrialization. While urban history is more than a bookshelf of analyses of individual cities, localized studies of the widely divergent types of cities that make up the “New South“ in the twentieth century would enrich our knowledge of the concept. Pensacola, Florida, emerged as a city in the “New South“ in the period 1900 to …

Station WTVJ, Miami, broadcast sixty-five consecutive weekday editorials against Dade County crime in 1966. These editorials, supported by documentary news reports and interviews, reportedly “shook the political foundation of the State of Florida and sent shock waves rocking the underworld that were felt in the crime capitals of the world.“

Ruggles Hubbard, Civil Governor Of Fernandina, Marilyn Maple
Ruggles Hubbard, Civil Governor Of Fernandina, Marilyn Maple
Florida Historical Quarterly
Ruggles Hubbard was one of the four men who became embroiled in a power struggle over Amelia Island, Florida, in the late summer of 1817. The island was originally occupied on June 29, 1817, by General Sir Gregor MacGregor, a Scottish revolutionary who claimed to represent several South American insurgent governments. He dreamed of freeing Florida from Spanish control with support he had solicited from certain United States citizens in Baltimore and Philadelphia. His flag, a green St. George’s Cross on a white field, was raised over Fernandina, as he proclaimed his victory in the name of the independence of …

Park Trammell And The Florida Democratic Senatorial Primary Of 1916, Stephen Kerber
Florida Historical Quarterly
Of the many hardfought and bitter campaigns waged in twentieth-century Florida politics, none has surpassed in excitement or intensity the 1916 gubernatorial fight between William V. Knott and Sidney J. Catts. In addition, the passions stirred by that contest spilled over into the United States Senate race and completely dominated it. Although historians have written a good deal about Knott and Catts, they have failed to describe or explain in depth the senatorial contest between incumbent Nathan P. Bryan and Florida Governor Park M. Trammell.

With The Wehrmacht In Florida: The German Pow Facility At Camp Blanding, 1942-1946, Robert D. Billinger, Jr.
Florida Historical Quarterly
An important aspect of the impact of World War II on the American homefront that has not been widely examined is how the government handled the nearly 378,000 German prisoners of war who were incarcerated in this country. Their odyssey took them from the deserts of North Africa, the mountains of central Italy, and the hedgerows of Normandy to Florida-one of forty-five states in which POWs were lodged during the war and immediately afterwards. The story of the German prisoners remained until relatively recently a virtual terre incognito because of the low profile of POW operations during the war and …

The use of scientific web applications (SWApps) across biological and environmental sciences has grown exponentially over the past decades or so. Although quantitative evidence for such increased use in practice is scant, collectively, we have observed that these tools become more commonplace in teaching, outreach, and in science coproduction (e.g., as decision support tools). Despite the increased popularity of SWApps, researchers often receive little or no training in creating such tools. Although rolling out SWApps can be a relatively simple and quick process using modern, popular platforms like R shiny apps or Tableau dashboards, making them useful, usable, and sustainable …

An Illuminating Art: How Manuscripts Were Decorated For Education And Edification, Eliana Aguilar, Grace Gayhart, Sarah Elrod
2021 Festschrift: The Interpolated Roman de Fauvel in Context
Medieval illuminated manuscripts have given scholars a window into the past in terms of material and purpose of art. Illuminations have been used as storytelling devices, materials for the church, and gifts for the wealthy. Some of the pieces illuminated were descriptions of science, the church, or morality stories. Illuminations have evolved through the centuries and reflect the era and location of which they are created, such as the evolution of borders and monograms. Here, you will see a description of the materials used, the purpose of the art, and some of the important meanings associated with illuminated manuscripts.
Multicultural Considerations For Latinx And Latinx-American Children In Play Therapy, Andrea Carolina Guerrero León
Multicultural Considerations For Latinx And Latinx-American Children In Play Therapy, Andrea Carolina Guerrero León
Counselor Education Capstones
This paper is predominately focused on the exploration of the research available on play therapy and its efficacy with Latinx children. Play therapy is a counseling approach used to process behaviors and emotions in children through interactive play. There are several modalities to play, which all stem from Sigmund Freud’s landmark work with “Little Hans”; these modalities are applied to help children process issues in their lives. However, multicultural considerations have not always been traditionally present in the broader counseling community in the United States. Since the Latinx population is the fastest growing minority in the U.S. with rich, diverse …
