Maximum Aerobic Exercise Induces Common Carotid Vasoconstriction And Increased Vascular Resistance, Michael Diaz, Zaria Opara, Heysel Morales, Allan Knox
Maximum Aerobic Exercise Induces Common Carotid Vasoconstriction And Increased Vascular Resistance, Michael Diaz, Zaria Opara, Heysel Morales, Allan Knox
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
PURPOSE: Low-to-moderate intensity aerobic exercise has been reported to elicit changes in systemic hemodynamics. Recent evidence suggests that the cerebral circulation reacts independently to systemic circulations to the same physiological stimuli. The aim of this is to determine the influence of high-intensity aerobic exercise on common carotid artery (CCA) hemodynamics. METHODS: Hemodynamic measurements were recorded before and following the cessation of a maximum oxygen uptake test (VO2max). One minute video of the CCA by Doppler ultrasound were recorded and used to determine peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV), time averaged mean blood velocity (TAMEAN), timed …
Differential Cardiovascular Responses To Acute Exercise In Adults With Cerebral Palsy, Gustavo Aldama, Allison Bui, Areum K. Jensen
Differential Cardiovascular Responses To Acute Exercise In Adults With Cerebral Palsy, Gustavo Aldama, Allison Bui, Areum K. Jensen
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a non-progressive and permanent neurological disorder leading to musculoskeletal dysfunction and immobility. A major clinical problem with CP is early development of cardiovascular diseases with increased rates of mortality. Due to the inevitability of motor dysfunction adults with CP can develop health risk factors, such as obesity and hypertension, at a higher rate compared to the general population. To date, the physiological basis for CP has not been established; how cardiovascular dynamics, such as heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), and blood flow (BF), are controlled in individuals with CP has never been identified. PURPOSE: To …

Evaluation Of Some Hematological Changes Among Chronic Renal Failure Patients In Qatan Hospital, Hadhramout Governorate - Yemen, Abdulrahman Salem Yaseen, Mohammed Ali Al-Maseeli
Hadhramout University Journal of Natural & Applied Sciences
This study was achieved at the industrial kidney centre in Qatan hospital during the period from February 2018 to July 2018, the study aimed at evaluating some hematological changes that occur in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) undergoing hemodialysis and comparing them with healthy people. Blood samples of 55 cases of both sexes were collected: 35 patients with CRF and on regular maintenance dialysis, and a control group of 20 healthy persons for comparison, in the age group ranged between 25-70 years for both groups. Hemoglobin concentration, total red cells count, packed cell volume, total white blood cells count, …

Hypoglycemia-associated autonomic failure (HAAF) is a maladaptive failure in glucose counterregulation in persons with diabetes (PWD) that is caused by recurrent exposure to hypoglycemia. The adipokine leptin is known to regulate glucose homeostasis, and leptin levels fall following exposure to recurrent hypoglycemia. Yet, little is known regarding how reduced leptin levels influence glucose counterregulation, or if low leptin levels are involved in the development of HAAF. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of hypoleptinemia on the neuroendocrine responses to hypoglycemia. We utilized two separate experimental paradigms known to induce a hypoleptinemic state: 60% caloric restriction (CR) …

Caloric restriction (CR) improves markers of aging in humans; but it is not known if the fat mass and obesity-associated gene (FTO) rs9939609 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), which is associated with appetite and energy intake, influences adherence to prolonged CR. Utilizing data from the two-year Comprehensive Assessment of Long-term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy (CALERIE™) phase 2 randomized controlled trial, we tested whether the FTO rs9939609 SNP was associated with adherence to CR in healthy adults without obesity. As secondary aims, we assessed whether the FTO rs9939609 SNP was associated with changes in body composition, biomarkers of aging, and …

Connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) will open the future to vast possibilities in transportation, most of which have yet to be imagined. As these new technologies emerge, they also have the potential to render many of today's most common transportation control methods irrelevant. In this paper, concepts of connected and autonomous are applied to coordinate and synchronize the arrival and departure of vehicles at intersections; effectively ending the need for traffic signals. Under a set of 'autonomous rules of operation', vehicles can be kept in near-continuous motion while also maintaining safe separation, creating a system of 'virtual traffic signal' (VTS). …

Background. This study aims to analyze the relationship of noise levels in the work environment, factors of worker characteristics (age, length of work, duration of work, hereditary history, and BMI), worker behavior (use of PPE, smoking behavior, and physical activity) with blood pressure on workers in Utilities and Oil Movement Units of PT Pertamina (Persero) Refinery Unit VI Balongan in 2020. Methods. This study uses quantitative research methods with cross sectional study design. The number of samples of this study are 72 workers in the Utilities and Oil Movement Units. Data of noise is obtained from direct measurements using a …
The State Of Missed Nursing Care In A Telemetry Nursing Unit: A Descriptive Case Study, Ann Marie Svolos
The State Of Missed Nursing Care In A Telemetry Nursing Unit: A Descriptive Case Study, Ann Marie Svolos

Missed nursing care in the acute hospital setting is care left undone. Omitted, missing and even rationed care, are not new concepts in nursing practice. However, in 2006 Dr. Beatrice Kalisch formally identified the type of care that is regularly missed in acute general hospital units and the reasons missed nursing care occurs. Missed nursing care is a problem for nursing and healthcare because it may lead to negative patient and staff outcomes which may result in harm. The purpose of the research was to understand missed nursing care from a telemetry nurse's perspective to learn how it continues to …
