Does A Brief Mindfulness Induction Change Delay Discounting In Individuals With High Levels Of Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms?, Cierra B. Edwards
Does A Brief Mindfulness Induction Change Delay Discounting In Individuals With High Levels Of Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms?, Cierra B. Edwards
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental illness characterized by obsessions and compulsions that cause significant distress and/or functional impairment. Delay discounting, the decline in value of a reward with the delay of its receipt, is linked to a range of maladaptive behaviors and mental disorders. Increased delay discounting is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), reflecting that compulsive behaviors that aim to counteract obsessive thoughts are viewed as uncontrollable by the sufferer. We aimed to experimentally reduce delay discounting in individuals with high levels of obsessive-compulsive symptoms through a brief mindfulness induction. Eligible participants were randomly assigned to receive either a …
Experimental Studies Of Pulsatile Flow Characteristics Of Aortic Models Under Normal And Diseased Conditions, Ruihang Zhang
Experimental Studies Of Pulsatile Flow Characteristics Of Aortic Models Under Normal And Diseased Conditions, Ruihang Zhang
Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics
Heart disease is the leading cause of death globally. Aorta is extremely important because of its critical function in blood circulation. Abnormal hemodynamics of aortic valve and arch is related to many severe diseases and has intrigued a growing of fluid dynamic researches over decades. However, due to the complexity of transient flow and fluid-structure interaction, many aspects of aortic hemodynamics have not been fully understood. The goal of this dissertation is to design and construct an in-vitro cardiovascular flow simulator for PIV hemodynamics research and understand the pulsatile flow characteristics of human aortic valve and arch under normal and …

Covid-19 Vaccine Mandates For University Students, Dorit Rubenstein Reiss, John Dipaolo
Covid-19 Vaccine Mandates For University Students, Dorit Rubenstein Reiss, John Dipaolo
Faculty Scholarship
Universities and colleges (“universities”) reopening after COVID-19 understandably seek to increase safety on campus and reduce the risk of a COVID-19 outbreak. One approach universities and colleges are considering is requiring vaccines from students. This Article addresses the legal framework behind university vaccine mandates for students. It sets out the general constitutional framework and explains why universities are constitutionally permitted to impose reasonable vaccine mandates. It addresses whether universities need to offer a religious exemption, explaining that under current Supreme Court jurisprudence, universities are likely not required to offer a religious exemption, but that may change, and public universities in …
Outpatient Appointment Scheduling Study: Utilization Projection, No-Show Prediction, And Capacity Allocation, Fangzheng Yuan
Outpatient Appointment Scheduling Study: Utilization Projection, No-Show Prediction, And Capacity Allocation, Fangzheng Yuan
Transportation Logistics and Finance
Long waiting times could result in many negative effects, such as low capacity utilization, high patient no-show rates, and loss of social benefits, which will also lead to a waste of public resources. Therefore, to better utilize healthcare resources and serve the community, my dissertation will focus on three objectives: To study the relationship between appointment utilization and indirect waiting time (IWT); to predict the patient’s no-shows without profiling them; to develop an optimization model for appointment capacity allocation. To achieve these objectives, multiple models and approaches have been developed in this dissertation. For the first model, two mixture distribution …
Logistics Of North Dakota State Local Food System: An Empirical Study To Measure Local Food Supply And Demand For Regional Food Hub Feasibility Study, Hamad Alqublan
Transportation Logistics and Finance
Because North Dakota (ND) is one of only four states that do not have a food hub, the purpose of the regional food hub feasibility study was to empirically evaluate whether the ND local food system needs a food hub from a supply and demand perspective. The 21st century has shifted American agriculture and rural life. The number of small and mid-sized farms decreases while the number of more significant farms increases. The food hubs concept has become an increasingly popular response to this agricultural problem. Food hubs cover the gap between farmers and markets and add value to the …
The Biogeochemistry Of Soil At Depth Within The Wetland Landscape Of The Prairie Pothole Region, Carrie Elaine Werkmeister
The Biogeochemistry Of Soil At Depth Within The Wetland Landscape Of The Prairie Pothole Region, Carrie Elaine Werkmeister
Soil Science
The impact of agricultural practices on wetland ecosystems in the Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) has long been recognized but little is understood about impacts on the biogeochemistry of the wetlands at depth. Understanding the relationship of multi-elements within the wetland and surrounding landscape can aid in wetland restoration and provide guidance for wetland management. The objectives of this study were to: 1) identify biogeochemical characteristics of PPR wetlands; 2) identifying differences or similarities in biogeochemical characteristics of the landscape; 3) assess the vertical variation in chemical composition at depth in wetland, wetland and fringe, footslope and backslope soils; and 4) …
On Lasso Estimation Of Linear Mixed Model For High Dimensional Longitudinal Data, Qian Wen
On Lasso Estimation Of Linear Mixed Model For High Dimensional Longitudinal Data, Qian Wen
Statistics
With the advancement of technology in data collection, repeated measurements with high dimensional covariates have become increasingly common. The classical statistics approach for modeling the data of this kind is via the linear mixed model with temporally correlated error. However, most of the research reported in the literature for variable selection is for independent response data. In this study, the proposed algorithm employs Expectation and Maximization (EM) and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) approaches under the linear mixed model scheme with the assumption of Gaussianity, an approach that works for data with interdependence. Our algorithm involves two steps: …
Culturally Responsive School Leadership Agility: A Journey Through Critical Self-Reflection, Deborah Mckelvey Brown
Culturally Responsive School Leadership Agility: A Journey Through Critical Self-Reflection, Deborah Mckelvey Brown
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study examined how school leaders can differentiate their approach using a self-reporting psychometric instrument called the Emergenetics® Profile when engaged in critical self-reflection. Using a multiple case study approach, three urban school leaders engaged in the deconstructing and reconstructing of knowledge frameworks specific to deficit thinking. The Emergenetics Profile served as a lens to critically self-reflect in order to differentiate their approach to the disrupt deficit thinking practices in their schools (Browning 2007; Khalifa, 2018; Shields, 2018). This study integrated these insights from critical self-reflection and the awareness gained by school leaders through their Emergenetics preferences to change their …
Evaluating Foundational Components Of Research Consultations In An Academic Library Research Center, Ryan F. Buller
Evaluating Foundational Components Of Research Consultations In An Academic Library Research Center, Ryan F. Buller
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As our society continues to evolve at an ever-increasing rate, our higher education institutions, and the services they provide, must keep pace with societal changes in order to ensure that those services stay current and relevant. This program evaluation examines one such service, the research consultation model in University Libraries at the University of Denver. This evaluation was situated within the Human Ecological Theory Framework, to help understand how different environments can impact the recognition and value placed upon the foundational components of the service. An exploratory sequential mixed methods approach was used to determine what the foundational components of …
“It Sucks, But I’M Grateful”: Understanding The Experience Of Autistic Students Living In The Residence Halls, Mary F. Elliott
“It Sucks, But I’M Grateful”: Understanding The Experience Of Autistic Students Living In The Residence Halls, Mary F. Elliott
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As populations of Autistic students at institutions of higher education increases, it is becoming more important for institutions to evaluate their programs with these students in mind. While the Autistic population has grown, policies and services on campuses have not become more inclusive or supportive of this population as a response. This evaluation examines the Residential Learning Model, the guide through which the residential life program at one institution of higher education is delivered to the students living in the residence halls. Through the lens of the Autistic students and the student staff who live and work in the residence …
Exploring The Impact Of Leadership Values And Practices To Support Equity And Social Justice In An Urban School, Susan-Marie Farmen
Exploring The Impact Of Leadership Values And Practices To Support Equity And Social Justice In An Urban School, Susan-Marie Farmen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative case study explores the leadership values and practices of a principal in a sixth through twelfth-grade school in the Rocky Mountain West to determine how leadership values and practices support the implementation of equitable and socially just practices in the school. Five key themes emerged: (a) equity as a Black/non-Black construct; (b) a lack of knowledge and awareness of the historical contexts of marginalized populations; (c) moral courage for all members of the school; (d) equity as an initiative or program; (e) resistance to deep equity work. From these themes, I devise three recommendations to support substantial and …

Voltage-gated Kv1.3 potassium channels are key regulators of T lymphocyte activation, proliferation and cytokine production, by providing the necessary membrane hyper-polarization for calcium influx following immune stimulation. It is noteworthy that an accumulating body of in vivo and in vitro evidence links these channels to multiple sclerosis pathophysiology. Here we studied the electrophysiological properties and the transcriptional and translational expression of T lymphocyte Kv1.3 channels in multiple sclerosis, by combining patch clamp recordings, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and flow cytometry on freshly isolated peripheral blood T lymphocytes from two patient cohorts with multiple sclerosis, as well as from healthy …
