Cross-Border Trust Disputes And Choice Of Law In East Asia, Ying Khai Liew
Washington International Law Journal
Since its introduction in East Asia over a century ago, trust law has seen much development, refinement, and domestic transformation. However, the treatment of trusts in private international law is severely underdeveloped. Due to the lack of comprehensive and dedicated choice of law rules in East Asia regarding trusts, there is much uncertainty in how forum courts treat cross-border trust disputes. This treatment derogates from a proper recognition of the trust as a distinctive legal device and fails to properly protect the autonomy and legitimate expectations of certain parties. Worse still, it puts East Asia out of step with most …

Enzalutamide, a second-generation antiandrogen, is commonly prescribed for the therapy of advanced prostate cancer, but enzalutamide-resistant, lethal, or incurable disease invariably develops. To understand the molecular mechanism(s) behind enzalutamide resistance, here, we comprehensively analyzed a range of prostate tumors and clinically relevant models by gene expression array, immunohistochemistry, and Western blot, which revealed that enzalutamide-resistant prostate cancer cells and tumors overexpress the pseudokinase, Tribbles 2 (TRIB2). Inhibition of TRIB2 decreases the viability of enzalutamide-resistant prostate cancer cells, suggesting a critical role of TRIB2 in these cells. Moreover, the overexpression of TRIB2 confers resistance in prostate cancer cells to clinically relevant …

The molecular and cellular processes leading to aortic aneurysm development in Marfan syndrome (MFS) remain poorly understood. In this study, we examined the changes of aortic cell populations and gene expression in MFS by performing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA seq) on ascending aortic aneurysm tissues from patients with MFS (n = 3) and age-matched non-aneurysmal control tissues from cardiac donors and recipients (n = 4). The expression of key molecules was confirmed by immunostaining. We detected diverse populations of smooth muscle cells (SMCs), fibroblasts, and endothelial cells (ECs) in the aortic wall. Aortic tissues from MFS showed alterations …

Criminal Protection Of Health Facilities In Iraqi Legislation (Comparative Study), Ghusn Manahi Khayun Alhasanawii, Latif Abdul Hussein Musa
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
In our research, we discussed the criminal protection of health facilitie as a comparative study where it has a distinct importance among the interests that the legislator aspires to protect by legal texts. Health facilities constitute a threat to the internal security of the country, especially after being accompanied by descriptions that make it inherent to influence that security, such as the terrorist description, but at the level of external security, these crimes were considered one of the means used by some countries to violate security, etc. I hope for other countries either to influence them only or to interfere …

Depression affects over 17 million American adults yearly and has been identified as the leading cause of disability in people between the ages of 15 and 44 years. There is evidence that feeling neglect or a lack of parental attachment during childhood is associated with depression. One construct that has been overlooked is love from a parent. The purpose of this study was to analyze the association between individuals who felt not wanted/loved during adolescence and lifetime depression and to examine this association by gender. We examined 5114 participants aged 24–32 years at Wave IV of the National Longitudinal Study …
Evolution Or Revolution In Telehealth Regulation, George Horvath
Evolution Or Revolution In Telehealth Regulation, George Horvath
Texas A&M Law Review
A frequently repeated adage, attributed to a wide range of authors and orators, holds that a serious crisis should never be allowed to go to waste. The moment in which we find ourselves renders this adage particularly timely. Responses to one of the defining crises of our age—the COVID–19 pandemic—have mostly been reactive. This includes the responses of multiple actors involved with telehealth. Congress, federal regulators, state legislatures, state regulators, private insurers, and health care providers, confronting the challenges of the pandemic, have responded by making ad hoc adjustments to the regulation and use of telehealth. Moving the conversation beyond …

Alaskans have a unique and urgent opportunity to enact policies that can ensure and promote equitable, sustainable development that centers the voices and interests of marginalized groups—including Indigenous and rural populations—and provides benefits to local economies. This Note seeks to contribute to the creation of a sound policy framework for the responsible development of Alaska’s seaweed farming industry by advancing both a theoretical framework and specific policy recommendations. Drawing from the experiences of other jurisdictions …
The Ballot Is Stronger Than The Bullet: Alaska's Superior Strict Scrutiny Approach To Ballot Access Laws, Ben Sheppard, Josh Guckert
The Ballot Is Stronger Than The Bullet: Alaska's Superior Strict Scrutiny Approach To Ballot Access Laws, Ben Sheppard, Josh Guckert
Alaska Law Review
Restrictive ballot access laws are the most burdensome requirement for third-party candidates. Such laws implicate First Amendment freedoms to associate both publicly and privately with like-minded individuals in order to advance political causes. Alaskan courts review state ballot access laws under the demanding standard of strict scrutiny. This standard was adopted through the efforts of Joe Vogler and his Alaskan Independence Party. The authors contend that such a standard has fostered Alaska’s unique openness toward third-party candidacies. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court of the United States does not utilize this same strict scrutiny review, instead using the Anderson-Burdick test, which balances …
