Low-Calorie Diet Improves Pasi Score In Psoriasis Patients With Obesity: An Evidence-Based Case Report, Kristian Kuniawan, Alessa Fahira, Edwin Ti Ramadan, Windy Keumala Budianti
Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia
Background: The association between psoriasis and metabolic syndrome is appealing as the two may share a similar cross-linking systemic inflammation process. The inflammation processes occurring in obesity and psoriasis may aggravate one another. This raised the question of whether a low-calorie diet would possibly reverse the aforementioned process. This study aims to determine whether calorie restriction reduces psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) in obese patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis receiving conventional treatment compared to no calorie restriction.
Methods: We searched Pubmed/Pubmed Central, ScienceDirect, Cochrane library, EBSCOhost, and Scopus databases using keywords derived from our clinical question. The inclusion …

Periarticular Dextrose Prolotherapy For Patients With Primary Knee Osteoarthritis: A Casereport And Literature Reviewarticle, Yen-Jou Ho, Yao-Jen Chen, Chi-Chung Ho, Sheng-Wei Zeng, Su-Ju Tsai, Long-Wei Dai
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disease that primarily afflicts older adults. The mainstream management of knee OA involves integrative practice, including patient education, weight reduction, exercise, pharmacological therapy, and non-pharmacological modalities. However, prolotherapy with hypertonic dextrose via either intra-articular or periarticular injection, or a combination of both techniques, has become a strong evidence-based treatment or adjuvant therapy that may be used in addition to conservative management. In the literature, two studies have compared the effects of intra-articular and periarticular prolotherapy for knee OA and reveal comparable effects. In addition, the periarticular approach has fewer side effects and post-injection pain. …

Critical Transformations Through Community Service-Learning Programs For Students Of Color At Predominantly White Institutions, Varsha Ghosh
Graduate Doctoral Dissertations
Service-learning has become deeply embedded in higher education, as both a co-curricular and curricular tool to achieve learning outcomes, promote civic engagement and promote diversity. Yet it has also struggled with the critique that service-learning, unintentionally, reinforces deficit thinking by promoting a dominant narrative centered on the White middle-class perspective. This narrative excludes the experience of students and faculty who reflect the demographics of the community served or who are simultaneously from the community and the institution. This qualitative study seeks to challenge the traditional narrative to understand the service experience of students of color from low-income backgrounds at predominantly …

Religious Coping After Natural Disaster: Predicting Long-Term Mental And Physical Health In Survivors Of Hurricane Katrina, Monica Arkin
Religious Coping After Natural Disaster: Predicting Long-Term Mental And Physical Health In Survivors Of Hurricane Katrina, Monica Arkin
Graduate Masters Theses
Natural disasters are increasing with regards to both frequency and severity (CRED & UNDRR, 2015; NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), 2020). Exposure to natural disasters, in turn, increases the likelihood for the development of adverse mental and physical health outcomes (Augustinavicius et al., 2021). Religion and spirituality is an accessible form of coping that many people turn to during and after natural disasters, and may be especially valuable to those who face barriers to accessing mental health treatment or may not feel served by formal mental health institutions (Abu-Raiya & Pargament, 2015; Bryant-Davis & Wong, 2013). However, there …

Establishing A Legitimate Indonesia’S Government Electronic Surveillance Regulation: A Comparison With The U.S. Legal Practices, Citra Yuda Nur Fatihah
Indonesia Law Review
Cybersecurity and privacy have now become a matter of increasing concern for citizens, the private sector, and the Indonesian government. The government is currently struggling to combat cyberattacks and data breaches. Indonesia is, in fact, in the early stages of developing a national cybersecurity strategy. The legal framework for cybersecurity in Indonesia is still weak. The one and only legal basis for regulating cybersecurity, privacy, and security, in Indonesia so far is the Electronic Information and Transactions Law No. 11/2008 and its revised version Law No.19/2016. Furthermore, the government through the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information has just issued …

Swallowing Rehabilitation Of Dysphagia In Parkinson Disease: Recent Advances And Recommendations, Chin-Man Wang, Yih-Ru Wu, Tyng-Guey Wang
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Dysphagia is common in Parkinson disease (PD). Dysphagia may affect quality of life in the early stage of PD and can cause dehydration, malnutrition, or even result in pneumonia and mortality in the late stage. Accordingly, management of dysphagia is a crucial issue in PD. Clinicians and researchers should spend more effort developing sensitive evaluation tools and effective intervention strategies for dysphagia in PD. In the early stage of disease, the Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire, Münich Dysphagia Test for Parkinson’s Disease questionnaire, or noninvasive tools involving surface electromyography or sensors should be used to detect subtle or mild dysphagia. In the …

Management Of Dysphagia In Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Kuo-Chang Wei, Wen-Chin Weng, Tyng-Guey Wang
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive neuromuscular disease. SMA phenotypes can be determined by the timing of disease onset and the highest level of motor development reachable by the patient. Generally speaking, proximal muscle involvement is more severe than in the distal extremities. In addition, cervical and the masticatory and pharyngeal muscles were likely affected by the disease, which can cause feeding problems and dysphagia. Clinically, dysphagia is more common among patients with type I and type II SMA. To thoroughly evaluate swallowing-related issues, both subjective information from patients and their caregivers and findings from objective tools including …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Background and aims: Cerebral palsy (CP) is impaired development in movement and postural control due to brain damage during the fetal or early infancy stage of life. Poor control of the neck muscle affects the peripheral sensory input and central nervous signal output, inhibiting the pre-action feedback response and expected postural regulation, which might result in impaired postural stability of the head and trunk. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to conduct head and neck vertical stabilization training for teenage students with cerebral palsy, and to examine its balance effect. Methods: In addition to maintaining regular rehabilitation training, …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
The care-issue for dementia is becoming more important as the elderly dementia population rapidly increases in Taiwan. Although many studies show exercise intervention is effective in slowing the disease progression of people with dementia living in institutions, there is insufficient evidence regarding individuals with dementia living in the community. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess if a once a week group exercise session along with four home exercise sessions per week is effective in improving the balance, mobility, muscle strength and aerobic endurance in community dwelling elders with dementia. This study recruited 18 elders above 65 years …

Tibial Neuropathy After Revision Total Knee Prosthesis: A Casereport, Chun-Ping Wang, Wei-Ting Wu, Lin-Fen Hsieh
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
We describe a 74-year-old woman with right knee osteoarthritis experiencing right tibial neuropathy because of complications of total knee arthroplasty revision. Weakness in the right toe flexors and paresthesia over the sole of the right foot were observed after operation. A nerve conduction study and electromyographic examination indicated right tibial neuropathy. Radiography indicated a prosthesis fragment in the right popliteal fossa, and its location was different before and after surgery. Prosthesis fragment dislodgement was also confirmed through ultrasonography, and the nearby tibial nerve may have been entrapped because of the dislocation process and surrounding tissue fibrosis. Ultrasonography confirmed the prosthesis …
