Factors That Impact Nursing Faculty Members' Job Satisfaction And Intent To Stay, Stephanie Christian

A shortage of qualified nurse educators limits the ability of nursing program to increase student enrollment to meet the increased demand for Registered Nurses (RNs) needed to meet current and anticipated healthcare needs across the United States (US). In order to educate more nurses to increase the nursing workforce, qualified nurse educators are necessary to graduate competent nurses with critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills required to provide quality care to complex patients, families and communities. This descriptive study used Herzberg’s Motivation Hygiene theory to explore motivation and hygiene factors that influence nursing faculty job satisfaction and intent to stay …

Literacy As A Means Of Stress Relief In A Domestic Violence Homeless Shelter: Listening To Childrens' Voices, Vonda L. Dahl

Theses and Dissertations

It is well-documented that children who experience housing insecurities, transience and homelessness, whether short or long term, may suffer from anxiety and/or chronic stress (Perry, 1997, 2004; Jensen, 2009). What is less known, or researched, are ways to address that anxiety through the efforts of volunteers and other non-custodial persons and the simple act of reading a book together. This study is social science in nature with a focus on phenomenological research with children that explores the affective value that a literacy event may have on a child’s perceptions of their own level of stress. Participants were recruited from a …

Career Aspirations Of Collegiate Aviation Students, Shayne A. Daku Jan 2021

Career Aspirations Of Collegiate Aviation Students, Shayne A. Daku

Theses and Dissertations

Three studies in this dissertation examined the career aspirations of collegiate aviation students: student motivation with respect to career aspirations, military aviation career aspirations, and student perceptions of career pathway programs. Findings from each of these studies are valuable to students pursuing careers in aviation and industry partners seeking to fill pilot positions. Each of these reports highlights the desire of current collegiate aviation students to have a career that supports their values of remaining close and connected to their family and friends. In the first research, aviation graduates report crew base and hourly pay as the most important factors …

Sensitization To A Milk Allergen Induces Differential Behavioral And Neurological Responses In Allergic C57bl/6j And Balb/Cj Mice, Nicholas Smith

Theses and Dissertations

Studies have highlighted an association between food allergies and neuropsychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Though the precise mechanism behind this relationship is unknown, it marks a potential novel therapeutic strategy outside of traditional neuropharmacological intervention. Food allergy is a heterogeneous disorder of the immune system characterized by an immune response that occurs reproducibly to a given food. Chronic allergen exposure in patients with mild or non-anaphylactic food allergies may cause or exacerbate psychiatric conditions. However, the variability in food allergies due to factors like genetic background introduces selection bias for individuals with overt anaphylactic …

Attitudes And Knowledge Of Autism Spectrum Disorder Among Australian Undergraduate Psychology Students, Tiffany Williamson Jan 2021

Attitudes And Knowledge Of Autism Spectrum Disorder Among Australian Undergraduate Psychology Students, Tiffany Williamson

Research Datasets

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has generated much research interest in recent times due to a soaring increase in diagnosis rates and a movement to recognise ASD as a cognitive style, rather than a cognitive deficit. Psychologists are responsible for the timely and accurate diagnosis of ASD and supporting clients on the spectrum with general mental health care. Undergraduate psychology students may go on to further study to become registered psychologists or choose to pursue other careers in mental health care and support work in which they will likely have contact with members of the autistic community. However, little research into …

Outpatient Appointment Scheduling Study: Utilization Projection, No-Show Prediction, And Capacity Allocation, Fangzheng Yuan

Transportation Logistics and Finance

Long waiting times could result in many negative effects, such as low capacity utilization, high patient no-show rates, and loss of social benefits, which will also lead to a waste of public resources. Therefore, to better utilize healthcare resources and serve the community, my dissertation will focus on three objectives: To study the relationship between appointment utilization and indirect waiting time (IWT); to predict the patient’s no-shows without profiling them; to develop an optimization model for appointment capacity allocation. To achieve these objectives, multiple models and approaches have been developed in this dissertation. For the first model, two mixture distribution …
