Cyber Conflicts In Outer Space: Lessons From Scada Cybersecurity, Roy Balleste Jan 2021

Cyber Conflicts In Outer Space: Lessons From Scada Cybersecurity, Roy Balleste

Emory Business Law Review

The story of cybersecurity begins in land. By land, a cyber operations expert would mean the land mass on the surface of the Earth. The great monuments to human achievement surround our daily lives, every hour of every day. These testaments to human ingenuity are not the usual ones known to be appreciated as works of art. The monuments of concern for cybersecurity include, among others, power plants, electrical substations, water dams, water processing plants, auto assembly factories, and satellite ground stations. On January 10, 2014, Australia’s IT News reported that Russian researchers Sergey Gordeychik and Gleb Gritsai discovered vulnerabilities …

History, System, Principle, Analogy: Four Paradigms Of Legitimacy In European Law, Paul Linden-Retek Jan 2021

History, System, Principle, Analogy: Four Paradigms Of Legitimacy In European Law, Paul Linden-Retek

Journal Articles

The constitutional dimension of European Union law promises—in its most ambitious forms—reflexive structures of post-national democratic community. But this ambition poses profound philosophical challenges for how we think about the legitimacy of European judiciaries—the relation between legal decision-making and the ideal of post-national self-authorship. European constitutional law not only coordinates new forms of public power, but its jurisprudence also normatively justifies (or fails to justify) that power in what must be similarly reflexive discourses of legitimation. This article argues that theorists of European law have thus far paid too little attention to the thicker socio-cultural registers through which this legitimation occurs. …

Mesopotamian Journal of Big Data

Data mining and machine learning (ML) methods are being used more than ever before in cyber security. The use of machine learning (ML) is one of the potential solutions that may be successful against zero day attacks, starting with the categorization of IP traffic and filtering harmful traffic for intrusion detection. In this field, certain published systematic reviews were taken into consideration. Contemporary systematic reviews may incorporate both older and more recent works in the topic of investigation. All of the papers we looked at were thus recent. Data from 2016 to 2021 were utilized in the study. Both security …

Adaptive Uplink Data Rate Prediction And Networkselection In A Vehicular Mobile Channel, Georgi Nikolov Jan 2021

Adaptive Uplink Data Rate Prediction And Networkselection In A Vehicular Mobile Channel, Georgi Nikolov

Theses

The rapid acceleration into the digital age brings a worldwide interconnectedness of an unprecedented level. This interconnectedness transforms the modern transportation network by linking its infrastructure components (e.g., signaling systems, traffic control systems, maintenance systems) together. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) can utilize this newly emerged network infrastructure, improving traffic safety, traffic control, and reducing transportation-related environmental impacts, changing the way drivers, businesses and governments deal with road transport. It is expected that in the near future self-aware vehicles (e.g., trains, cars or trucks) will constitute the majority of the transportation infrastructure. Vehicles need to be able to reliably communicate critical …

Evaluation Of A ‘Well-Elderly’ Physical Activity Programme, Robert Purcell Jan 2021

Evaluation Of A ‘Well-Elderly’ Physical Activity Programme, Robert Purcell

Theses

Both in Ireland and internationally people are living longer and there is an increasing proportion of older adults in the population (Clark 2020). As such, the maintenance of health and physical function for older adults is of critical importance. Physical activity is widely acknowledged as being crucial for the maintenance of positive health, particularly for older adults (Spartano et al., 2019). Research has suggested that physical activity programmes are an effective means of engaging older adults in physical activity for the promotion of positive health (Sherrington et al., 2017). The central aim of this research project was to explore the …

Drunk Drivers Are A Moving Time Bomb: Should States Impose Liability On Both Social Hosts And Commercial Establishments Whose Intoxicated Guests And Patrons Subsequently Cause Injuries Or Death To Innocent Third Parties, Tracey B. Carter Jan 2021

Drunk Drivers Are A Moving Time Bomb: Should States Impose Liability On Both Social Hosts And Commercial Establishments Whose Intoxicated Guests And Patrons Subsequently Cause Injuries Or Death To Innocent Third Parties, Tracey B. Carter

Law Faculty Scholarship

This Article examines whether states should impose civil liability not only on commercial alcohol vendors under dram shop statutes, but also on social hosts whose intoxicated guests subsequently cause injury or death to innocent third parties. Drawing upon national drunk-driving statistics, historical development of dram shop laws, and comparative analysis of state approaches—particularly in Southeastern jurisdictions—the Article evaluates the effectiveness and limitations of existing liability frameworks. While most states recognize statutory liability for commercial establishments that serve visibly intoxicated persons or minors, many decline to extend comparable liability to social hosts serving adult guests. The Article analyzes the policy arguments …

3d Mapping Robot, Konnor Andrews, Ryan Jacobson Jan 2021

3d Mapping Robot, Konnor Andrews, Ryan Jacobson

Electrical and Computer Engineering

Problem: Current 3D interior mapping methods are cumbersome, complicated, and costly. A consumer typically cannot purchase or operate the existing tools.

However, 3D mapping has a myriad of practical applications, such as interior design, virtual reality environment creation, and robotics research. This project aims to make 3D mapping tools more accessible for consumers.

Solution: This project combines modern control theory and signal processing to create an autonomous robot that can traverse and map unknown indoor areas. This robot can be managed using a simple interface on any device with a web browser. The scan that the robot generates can then …

Autonomous Delivery Robot, Sam Petersen, Nathan Haws Jan 2021

Autonomous Delivery Robot, Sam Petersen, Nathan Haws

Electrical and Computer Engineering

We designed and assembled a self-driving delivery vehicle.

  • People and companies spend a lot of time delivering food, packages, and other items.
  • A self-driving delivery vehicle could save these people time and money.
  • We set out to design and assemble an autonomous vehicle that could safely and securely navigate around its environment to deliver a package to a user-defined destination.
