Relational Enforcement Of Stock Exchange Rules, Geeyoung Min, Kwon-Yong Jin Dec 2021

Relational Enforcement Of Stock Exchange Rules, Geeyoung Min, Kwon-Yong Jin

BYU Law Review

Stock exchanges, as regulating entities supervised by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), have wielded their rulemaking power on various corporate governance issues, ranging from the independent board committee requirement adopted in 2003 to the board diversity requirement approved in 2021. Simultaneously, as for-profit corporate entities, major stock exchanges have been competing against each other to attract and retain more companies. This dual status of stock exchanges — as regulators and as profit driven entities — brings into question the stock exchanges' incentive to enforce their own rules against listed companies. What happens if a listed company violates stock exchange …

Non-Consensual Disclosures, Nina Varsava

BYU Law Review

In the course of biomedical research on humans — for example, flu, imaging, and genomic studies — researchers often uncover information about participants that is important to their health and wellbeing. In many cases, the information is not anticipated in advance, and participants did not consent to receiving it. This Article examines the law and policy governing human subjects research, focusing on the set of regulations known as the "Common Rule." I argue that human subjects researchers will often have strong ethical reason s to disclose results even when participants did not consent to the disclosure in advance. I also …

Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia

Background: The association between psoriasis and metabolic syndrome is appealing as the two may share a similar cross-linking systemic inflammation process. The inflammation processes occurring in obesity and psoriasis may aggravate one another. This raised the question of whether a low-calorie diet would possibly reverse the aforementioned process. This study aims to determine whether calorie restriction reduces psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) in obese patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis receiving conventional treatment compared to no calorie restriction.
Methods: We searched Pubmed/Pubmed Central, ScienceDirect, Cochrane library, EBSCOhost, and Scopus databases using keywords derived from our clinical question. The inclusion …

Narasi Perempuan Melalui Tato, Nikita Devi Purnama, Lg Saraswati Putri

Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya

This research examines how women voice their narratives through tattoos by studying the experiences of seven tattooed women. Using the in-depth interview method, this research presents the narratives of these tattooed women in relation to their tattoos. Such narratives seem to be strongly intertwined with their life stories. The body is a medium in which a person can place certain markers to achieve certain purposes. As Butler theorizes, what the body displays is not the real self, but only an appearance according to the assumed or chosen role. Thinking In The Global South — Reflections On Anti-Vaxxers As An Instance Of Global Alterity, Raul Pertierra

Social Transformations Journal of the Global South

Excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light several features of the present state of globality. In many countries, objections against vaccination have attracted media prominence. Although reasons for this resistance may differ from one country to another, there seems to be a common thread linking them globally. This paper examines this thread and explores its relationship to conditions underlying modernity. As some have argued (e.g., Latour 2014, Luhmann 1998), modernity is not an explanatory concept but a category that allows us to label a complex reality, which includes internal contradictions (e.g., a society of universal levelling whose mechanism effaces …
