The Effects Of U.S. Fiscal Policy On Income Inequality ( 1913 – 2013 ), J.D. Lewis
The Effects Of U.S. Fiscal Policy On Income Inequality ( 1913 – 2013 ), J.D. Lewis
Theses and Dissertations
Income inequality in the United States has reached a level not seen since the Great Depression. Some academics and lawmakers suggest that growing inequality is due to changes in fiscal policy, arguing that cuts in taxes and government spending have reduced the inequality-mitigating effect of fiscal redistribution. While older research provides some support for this argument, newer research suggests otherwise. This disagreement in the literature led me to ask, How has fiscal policy affected income inequality in the United States during the last century? This study seeks to answer this question using data from Piketty et al. (2018), which includes …

Nuwu (Southern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Nuumu (Owens Valley Paiute) are linguistically related, Numic-speaking peoples who are part of the broader Uto-Aztecan language group. Numic peoples view the land as a holistic, living, sentient being with feelings and purpose. The land is personified with human characteristics and it needs to be experienced to be understood through “learning by doing.” Numic peoples do not support ground disturbing activities within their ancestral lands, including activities tied to the storage of low-level radioactive waste or classified materials on the NNSS, which they view as culturally inappropriate. These deep-rooted ancestral connections are the …

“Beyond Ethnic Economy”: Religiosity, Social Entrepreneurship, And Solidarity Formation Of Indonesian Migrants In Taiwan, Rudolf Yuniarto
“Beyond Ethnic Economy”: Religiosity, Social Entrepreneurship, And Solidarity Formation Of Indonesian Migrants In Taiwan, Rudolf Yuniarto
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
Indonesian migrants in Taiwan have been dominated by low skilled workers who are labelled uneducated sojourners, consumptive, the misplacement of future orientation, and a minority group struggling to survive. Several individuals concern about the migrant condition, and they are so-called migrant social entrepreneurs. Through social-religious activities and interrelations with the migrant worker community, the Indonesian entrepreneurs have created solidarity for migrant workers’ to generate living conditions that are more favourable and improve their livelihoods. Three important factors shape this condition: the marginal position of second-class migrant workers-immigrants, the virtuous value of religion, and social apprehension. Thorough analysing the religious experiences …

In 1605 Alvaro Mexia was sent on an expedition down the east coast of Florida by Governor Don Pedro de Ybarra of Spanish East Florida. Mexia followed the inland waters as far south as St. Lucie Inlet, and upon his return to St. Augustine compiled a map and itinerary which are invaluable in the study of the archaeology of the early historic period in the area.

Archaeology In Florida: A Report On The Goodnow Mound, Florida Historical Society
Florida Historical Quarterly
Though we call archaeology “pre-history,” so much has been learned about the former inhabitants of the land we might almost omit the prefix. This is not nearly so true of Florida aborigines as it is of many other parts of the country; and what has been accomplished here has been done by scientists from outside the State: Moore, Wyman, Stirling, Hrdlicka, Fewkes, Willey and others. Recently two of our own young men have been avidly following an urge which must have been congenital by digging into the history before history of the peninsula. These are John W. Griffin of Daytona …

Mechanisms Of Atrocity Prevention Policy Brief On Gender Mainstreaming, Darcie Deangelo
Mechanisms of Atrocity Prevention Project
The purpose of this brief is to provide recommendations on how to approach the possibilities of gender mainstreaming when gender identities are nonbinary. This brief also gives an overview of gender mainstreaming issues when it comes to downstream phases of atrocity prevention in places that have recently recovered from civil wars—the same civil wars which systematically committed violence against women and gender non-conforming people.

The Extracurriculum Of Creative Writing, Nancy Reddy
The Extracurriculum Of Creative Writing, Nancy Reddy
Journal of Creative Writing Studies
So far, the scholarship in the emerging field of Creative Writing Studies has focused primarily on creative writing workshops in colleges and universities. This article argues that Creative Writing Studies should broaden its focus to also include what scholars call the extracurriculum –the writing that people do when it’s not required by school or work, which takes place across a range of community, nonprofit, private, and digital spaces. Qualitative and archival research in the extracurriculum can help us develop a longer and more complex history and a more inclusive pedagogy.

Title : Divinity doctrine in the Arab Thought
Many religious, social and anthropological studies show that divinity in societies in general and in Arab societies in particular is enmeshed with human existence itself. That is, from Adam and on , divinity in societies underwent several changes. The prophets were the one charged to correct doctrines throughout human history .Nowadays, contemporary reality tells us that The Holy Prophet Muhammad is the seal of all prophets and that no other divine prophet will follow both in the Arab world or elsewhere.

Linguacultural Aspects Of Rhetoric Discourse In Tourism Advertising, Aziza Kholboboeva
Philology Matters
This article examines the nature of the discourse of advertising. The focus is on the tourism advertising, which is directed towards the promotion of some product or service to the general public or travelers. The article, however, is not meant to exhaust all the aspects of this particular discourse, or present an answer to all the problems it poses. Rather, it aims at uncovering the basic, essential elements of the most pervasive, influential and inescapable discourse of the XXI century – the advertising text. It focuses on the interaction of language, image and layout, and tries to examine advertising persuasive …

Should The State Of Israel Pursue Krav Maga As An Intangible Cultural Heritage Of The Jewish People? History And Politics Say Yes., Guy Mor, Andrea Molle
Political Science Faculty Articles and Research
Krav Maga (‘contact combat’) is an Israeli combat discipline arguably one of the many intangible cultural heritages of Israel and the Jewish people. It has played a unique role in the (re)creation and preservation of the Jewish identity and the formation of the state of Israel.
Recently we observe a growing academic literature debating the role of martial arts in international affairs and domestic political processes. It is the scope of this paper to contribute to this proposing a framework for understanding Krav-Maga as a means of cultural diplomacy as seen in other nations.

The University of Louisville Journal of Respiratory Infections
Introduction: The transmission of respiratory infectious diseases such as COVID-19 can significantly decrease by mask-wearing. However, accurate information about the extent and proper use of the facial mask is scarce. This study’s main objective was to observe and analyze mask-wearing behavior and the level of COVID-19 protection measures in indoor public areas (PAs) of Jefferson County, Kentucky.
Methods: For conducting the observational survey study, targets were indoor PAs, and zip codes were defined as surveying clusters. The number of selected PAs in each zip code was proportional to the population and the total number of PAs in that zip code. …

Apache Stronghold v. United States of America
Appeal from the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, Honorable Steven P. Logan (2:21-cv-00050-PHX-SPL)
From the Summary of the Argument
Meaningful access to sacred sites is a necessary part of the religious exercise of many Indigenous peoples. But tribes have been repeatedly denied such access by the federal government, and thus repeatedly thwarted in their efforts to engage in these important religious practices. In many instances, that access has been irrevocably denied and those efforts permanently thwarted by the total destruction of Indigenous sacred sites. Indeed, the colonial, …

Making Change In The Nickel City: Food Banking And Food Insecurity In Buffalo, Ny During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Sarah E. Bradley
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In March 2020, the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic began to spread across the United States. The pandemic disrupted the food system in an unprecedented fashion, exacerbating existing inequalities and contributing to increased rates of food insecurity and charitable food use. This research project considers the food system of Buffalo, New York and seeks to capture the way in which both food insecure households and the food pantries that serve them adapted to the pandemic. Using data from 75 client surveys, 52 qualitative semi-structured interviews with food pantry staff and clients, and 15 participatory GIS mapping interviews, this mixed-methods project describes …

The Value Of An Anthropology Degree: Why Undergraduates Major In Anthropology And How It Prepares Them For Life After College, Maria Kitchin
Theses and Dissertations
“What are you gonna do with that degree?” is a question frequently asked of anthropology majors. This question implies that the value of a college degree is only about getting a job and that the field of anthropology is not useful to that end. In fact, the popularity of anthropology and related liberal arts fields has been declining even as the number of students enrolled at universities has steadily increased. In a moment when the value of a liberal arts degree is questioned in public discourse, I explore the motivations and goals of students who have chosen to study anthropology …
