Short-Term Transport Stress And Supplementation Alter Immune Function In Aged Horses, Ashton B. Miller, Patricia A. Harris, Virginia D. Barker, Amanda A. Adams

Veterinary Science Faculty Publications

Long-distance transport is associated with stress-related changes in equine immune function, and shipping-associated illnesses are often reported. Horses are frequently transported short distances, yet the effects of short-term transport on immune function remain largely unknown. Twelve horses, aged 15–30 yr, were assigned to either the control (n = 6) or treatment (n = 6) groups; treatment horses received a daily antioxidant supplement 3 weeks before and after transport. All horses were transported for approximately 1.5–2 hr on Day 0. Blood was collected via jugular venipuncture at 15-min pre- and post-transport and on Days –21, 1, 3, 7, 14, and 21. …

International Business and Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications

Agriculture has adopted the use of smart technology to help meet growing food demands. This increased automation and associated connectivity increases the risk of farms being targeted by cyber-attacks. Increasing frequency of cybersecurity breaches in many industries illustrates the need for securing our food supply chain. The uniqueness of biological data, the complexity of integration across the food and agricultural system, and the importance of this system to the U.S. bioeconomy and public welfare suggests an urgency as well as unique challenges that are not common across all industries. To identify and address the gaps in awareness and knowledge as …

Heterogeneity In Multiple Inositol Polyphosphate Phosphatase1 (Minpp1): Identification And Characterization Of An Isoform-2 In Exosomes, Mohd Zubair Aug 2021

Heterogeneity In Multiple Inositol Polyphosphate Phosphatase1 (Minpp1): Identification And Characterization Of An Isoform-2 In Exosomes, Mohd Zubair

Theses and Dissertations

In pursuit of understanding the heterogeneity and physiological significance of multiple inositol polyphosphate phosphatase 1 (Minpp1), we have studied its isoforms for distinct motifs, subcellular distribution, and enzymatic potential. Initially, we took a Bioinformatics & Computational Biology approach exploring the proteome diversity of the Minpp1 utilizing the current NCBI database. We noticed three different minpp1 variants translated into three isoforms of Minpp1 proteins with varying molecular weight. A link between the minpp1 variant-2 gene and ER-stress, using real-time PCR, suggests a functional similarity between minpp1 variant-1 and variant-2. A detailed study on motifs revealed Minpp1 isoform-2 as the only other …

The Research And Implementation Of Film Virtual Photography Harware-In-The-Loop Simulation, Baihong Lu, Jianjun Zhao, Gesan Liu Aug 2021

The Research And Implementation Of Film Virtual Photography Harware-In-The-Loop Simulation, Baihong Lu, Jianjun Zhao, Gesan Liu

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Film virtual photography is an important part of the film virtual Previs. Aiming at the problems of high cost, poor user experience, and bad simulation of existing virtual photography, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation system for film virtual photography is proposed. It uses a hardware-in-the-loop simulation virtual photography module that is consistent with the operation method of the film creator in real shooting for virtual photography, which solves the problems of difficult virtual photography operations and not in line with the real operating habits in the past. It provides a virtual photography method that is more in line with movie …

Passenger Flow Sensitivity Analysis Of Evacuation Time For Standard Subway Station, Guoao Zhang, Ma Si, Wang Lin

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Underground two-level island platform stations widely existed in urban rail transit system. In order to analyze the relationship between the evacuation time and the character of passenger flow, the capacity of main evacuation facilities and the evacuation bottleneck of stations are studied, and groups of sensitivity analysis experiment are designed. The variability of the evacuation process is analyzed by comparing the output of each simulation model in a group and between groups. The simulation result shows that the station evacuation time increases within a certain limit at peak hour. And the station evacuation time is mainly affected by the …

Doing Gender And Reshaping The Self: The Rehabilitation Narratives Of Tbi Survivors, Paola Tine Aug 2021

Doing Gender And Reshaping The Self: The Rehabilitation Narratives Of Tbi Survivors, Paola Tine

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

This article provides a review of selected studies conducted in recent years on the relationship between gender identity and recovery following traumatic brain injury (TBI) with the goal of determining whether gender constructions play a role in the lived experience of TBI survivors. The studies reviewed show that psychosocial issues resulting from perceived difficulties in doing gender can be a burden to successful recovery and that addressing these constructions can have a positive influence on long-term results. Consequently, the author argues that gender should be considered a critical element in the aetiology and management of psychosocial issues following the injury …

The Challenges Of Applying Computational Legal Analysis To Mhealth Security And Privacy Regulations, Brian Tung Aug 2021

The Challenges Of Applying Computational Legal Analysis To Mhealth Security And Privacy Regulations, Brian Tung

McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations

As our world has grown in complexity, so have our laws. By one measure, the United States Code has grown over 30x as long since 1935, and the 186,000-page Code of Federal Regulations has grown almost 10x in length since 1938. Our growing legal system is too complicated; it’s impossible for people to know all the laws that apply to them. However, people are still subject to the law, even if they are unfamiliar with it. Therein lies the need for computational legal analysis. Tools of computation (e.g., data visualization, algorithms, and artificial intelligence) have the potential to transform civic …

All Works

INTRODUCTION: Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a severe complication of cerebrovascular stroke affecting about one-third of stroke survivors. Moreover, PSD is associated with functional recovery and quality of life (QOL) in stroke survivors. Screening for PSD is recommended. There are, however, differences in the literature on the impact of early screening on functional outcomes. In this systematic review, we synthesise the currently available literature regarding the associations between timing and setting of PSD screening and mortality, QOL and functional outcomes in stroke survivors. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will systematically search electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, APA PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus …

Gene (Co)Expression Networks And Alternate Transcripts Induced In Cotton In Response To Aspergillus Flavus Infection, Mohit Verma Aug 2021

Gene (Co)Expression Networks And Alternate Transcripts Induced In Cotton In Response To Aspergillus Flavus Infection, Mohit Verma

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L) is an economically important crop that generates billions of dollars in annual revenue worldwide. However, contamination of cottonseed with a highly carcinogenic aflatoxin produced by Aspergillus flavus limits the use of cottonseed in the oil and animal feed industries. Much success has been achieved by the application of atoxigenic strains of A. flavus for controlling aflatoxin contamination in cotton, peanut, and maize. Understanding the gene (co)expression network in response to A. flavus infection with both toxigenic and atoxigenic strains of A. flavus pericarp and seed of cotton through genome-wide transcriptome profiling will not only unravel …
