The objectives of this study were 1) to investigate concentrations of toxic metals including As, Cd, and Pb in the commonly consumed salad leafy vegetables which were sold in Bangkok, and 2) to assess potential human health risks of As, Cd, and Pb exposure via salad leafy vegetables consumption. A total of 120 samples were randomly collected from local fresh markets in Bangkok. Many people living with HIV (PLWH) have cognitive impairment. Details of cognitive impairment subtypes are lacking. Unsupervised machine learning (ML) can reveal hidden subgroups within heterogeneous data. The study aimed to determine clusters of aging Thai PLWH with borderline cognitive impairment using unsupervised ML. HIV-NAT 207 study enrolled Thai PLWH aged ≥50 years. Cognitive performance was evaluated by the Thai-validated Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). This study included participants who scored between 23 and 27. The score of each cognitive domain served as cluster variables for the K-means algorithm. Among 340 PLWH, 177 (52.1%) scored between 23 and 27. Median age …

Hypertension is a risk factor for premature death worldwide.It is characterized by an increase in blood pressure, so it needs therapy to regulate it and keep the value normal. Asiatic acid (AA) and palm oil (PO) were alternative antihypertensive agents that were promising to be developed. Both were natural compounds obtained from the Centella asiatica and Elaesis guineensis plants. This research examines the Karen diaspora’s transnational sense of belonging, ideological transition and tactics embodied in transnational activities after the 2021 Myanmar military coup. Looking at young Karen people in 5 host countries including the United States, Australia, Canada, Norway and Thailand, it is evident that those people in the diaspora still perceive the notion of homeland and maintain an emotional sense of belonging to their homeland after a long period of resettlement in host countries. Alpha folate receptor (FRα) is currently under investigation as a target for the treatment of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), since it is highly expressed in tumor cells but is largely absent in normal tissue. In this study, a novel human variable domain of a heavy-chain (VH) antibody fragment specific to FRα was enriched and selected by phage bio-planning. The positive phage clone (3A102 VH) is specifically bound to FRα and also cross-reacted with FRβ, as tested by ELISA. Colorectal cancer is one of the third most common cancer worldwide. Dysbiosis of the human gut microbiota has been linked to sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to compare the gut microbiota profile of a total of 80 Thai volunteers, who were above 50 years old, among 25 CRC patients, 33 adenoma patients, and 22 healthy controls (HC). The 16S rRNA sequencing was utilized to characterize the gut microbiome in both mucosal tissue and stool samples. The increasing development of colistin resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates is a global concern. Due to the limitation of effective antibiotics, the antibiotic combination therapies are the alternative choices. Here, we investigated the prevalence of colistin resistant A. baumannii (CoR-AB) clinical isolates and their resistance mechanisms, and examined the in vitro synergistic activities of the antibiotic combinations against CoR-AB. Among 341 carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter spp., 317 (92.0%) were identified as A. baumannii by gyrB multiplex PCR. High dose of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the common analgesia, might induce lupus activity through NSAIDs-induced gastrointestinal permeability defect (gut leakage) that causes endotoxemia. Indomethacin (25 mg/day) was orally administered for 7 days in 24-week-old Fc gamma receptor IIb deficient (FcgRIIb-/-) mice, an asymptomatic lupus model, and age-matched wild-type (WT) mice. The severity of indomethacin-induced enteropathy in FcgRIIb-/- mice was higher than WT mice as demonstrated by intestinal injury (histology, immune-deposition and intestinal cytokines), gut leakage (FITC-dextran assay and endotoxemia) and serum cytokines. Bacterial sepsis can be caused by intestinal damage, leading to the passage of viable bacteria and their components into the circulatory system. Bacterial-free DNA in the blood during sepsis can be derived from bacterial death and intestinal translocation of free DNA in the gut contents. Background: Although pathogenic gut microbiota causes gut leakage, increases translocation of uremic toxins into circulation, and accelerates CKD progression, the local strain of Lactobacillus rhamnosus L34 (L34) might attenuate gut leakage. We explored the effects of L34 on kidney fibrosis and levels of gut-derived uremic toxins (GDUTs) in 5/6-nephrectomy (5/6 Nx) mice. A parallel-plate type dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma was utilized to produce partially hydrogenated fatty acids methyl ester (PH-FAME) derived from soybean and palm FAME. PH-FAME exhibits improved oxidation resistance, resulting in a longer storage time and a delay in changing fuel properties. The DBD plasma reaction occurred at atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature without a catalyst. The best condition for 35 mL of soybean FAME hydrogenation was using 25% H2 at ambient temperature for 5.5 h. An increase in saturated and monounsaturated FAMEs corresponded to a reduction of iodine value from 128 to 67.4. This condition created trans fatty …

Margarine is a widely used raw material in the food and bakery industry. A successfully novel technique for refined palm olein hydrogenation to free trans-fat margarine production using non-thermal dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma has been demonstrated. The new green method does not use chemicals as a catalyst, thus making it extremely environmentally friendly. Objectives: To study factors which influence a dentist’s decision to propose the Tooth Autotransplantation (AT). Material and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 99 dentists between January and March 2021. A questionnaire comprised demographic characteristics, unprimed scenario, primed scenario, reasoning behind decisions, experience, and knowledge of AT. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test, McNemar’s test, and multiple logistic regression. Results: The respondents comprised 73 females and 26 males with a mean age of 30.84 ± 6.238 years. In the clinical situation, pulp exposure can happen during caries removal procedures. Inflammation can occur on the pulp of the exposed area because of infiltration of bacteria from caries or as a result of pulp reaction to caries removal drilling. Chemokines play pivotal roles in orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) through osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. We aimed to elucidate the effects of serial local vs systemic administration of the chemokine receptor CXCR4 antagonist AMD3100 on OTM. The maxillary right first molar (M1) of rats was moved mesially using a 10 g of force nickel-titanium coil spring. Abstract: An anterior open bite is one of the most difficult malocclusions in orthodontic treatment. For such malocclusion, orthodontic miniscrews insertion into both buccal and palatal alveolar regions has been indicated for molar intrusion, but it involves a risk of tooth root injury. To solve the problem, midpalatal miniscrew-attached extension arm (MMEA) is adopted. Gestational intermittent hypoxia (IH), a hallmark of OSA, alters the offspring's respiratory neural control and diaphragm contractile function. Thus, we aimed to investigate the effects of gestational IH on the muscle development and metabolism of geniohyoid (GH), which is innervated by the respiratory-related hypoglossal nerve and plays a role in tongue traction and suckling, in male offspring rats compared with masseter (MAS), the largest masticatory muscle. Sericin dressing containing collagen hydrolysate (SDC) was evaluated in this study, consisting of two phases of clinical trials. The clinical safety of SDC was determined using a patch test in 103 healthy volunteers (phase I). Most of the results (around 90%) in the SDC group were interpreted as negative and doubtful reactions, and the remaining results (around 10%) were weak reactions. After that, the clinical efficacy and safety of SDC were investigated in 21 patients with 30 split-thickness skin graft (STSG) donor sites (phase II).
