Youtube: The New Age Marketing Strategy For Library Services, Victor Sorna Prabhu A, Dr. M. Tamizhchelvan

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

In the 21st century, people show much interested in audiovisuals than that in printed materials. At the turn of this era, videos became popular as students started spending more time with audiovisuals. Put differently; people most likely prefer YouTube to Google. Although Google appears to be the famous search engine, as of 2015, YouTube has been more popular than Google. To supply videos, YouTube has still been the most used website. The present study explores the impact of YouTube on students, YouTube usage by students at college. It explains the conversion of YouTube features into innovative marketing strategies for the …

The research study investigated the extent to which aspects of their community cultural wealth assisted …

Entertainment Consolidation, Content Monopolies, And The Future Of Information, Emily Faro Jan 2021

Entertainment Consolidation, Content Monopolies, And The Future Of Information, Emily Faro

Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal

The acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company has raised significant antitrust concerns, as it exemplifies the challenges of modern media consolidation. This horizontal merger has substantially increased Disney's market power, particularly in the entertainment industry, leading to potential anticompetitive effects. The note argues that current U.S. antitrust laws, primarily designed to address historical monopolies, are inadequate in handling the complexities of contemporary media mergers, which often involve both horizontal and vertical integration. The analysis emphasizes the need for updated legal frameworks to consider the broader, long-term impacts of such mergers on competition and innovation.

Nanomaterials (NMs), both natural and synthetic, are produced, transformed, and exported into our environment daily. Natural NMs annual flux to the environment is around 97% of the total and is significantly higher than synthetic NMs. However, synthetic NMs are considered to have a detrimental effect on the environment. The extensive usage of synthetic NMs in different fields, including chemical, engineering, electronics, and medicine, makes them susceptible to be discharged into the atmosphere, various water sources, soil, and landfill waste. As ever-larger quantities of NMs end up in our environment and start interacting with the biota, it is crucial to understand …

Shappell, Moitraiyee Mukhopadhyay, Sathaporn Onanong, Daniel D. Snow

Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute: Faculty Publications

The transboundary River Ganga serves as a conduit for meltwater from the Himalayas and is a major freshwater source for two thirds of Indian population before emptying into the Sundarban Delta, the largest estuary in the Bay of Bengal. Endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) such as phthalic acid esters (PAEs) and bisphenol A (BPA) used as organic plastic additives can pollute the aquatic environment receiving plastic litter. Hence, we have investigated these EDCs in water samples from Ganga and Sundarban wetland of India. Since these compounds exhibit estrogenic potential, we have further measured steroids and evaluated the estrogenic activity (estradiol equivalents, …

The gut microbiome plays an important role in early life, protecting newborns from enteric pathogens, promoting immune system development and providing key functions to the infant host. Currently, there are limited data to broadly assess the status of the US healthy infant gut microbiome. To address this gap, we performed a multi-state metagenomic survey and found high levels of bacteria associated with enteric inflammation (e.g. Escherichia, Klebsiella), antibiotic resistance genes, and signatures of dysbiosis, independent of location, age, and diet. Bifidobacterium were less abundant than generally expected and the species identified, including B. breve, B. longum and B. bifidum, had …

Biodiversity Of The Coccidia (Apicomplexa: Conoidasida) In Vertebrates: What We Know, What We Do Not Know, And What Needs To Be Done, Donald W. Duszynski

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications

Over the last two decades my colleagues and I have assembled the literature on a good percentage of most of the coccidians (Conoidasida) known, to date, to parasitise: Amphibia, four major lineages of Reptilia (Amphisbaenia, Chelonia, Crocodylia, Serpentes), and seven major orders in the Mammalia (Carnivora, Chiroptera, Lagomorpha, Insectivora, Marsupialia, Primates, Scandentia). These vertebrates, combined, comprise about 15,225 species; only about 899 (5.8%) of them have been surveyed for coccidia and 1,946 apicomplexan valid species names or other forms are recorded in the literature. Based on these compilations and other factors, I extrapolated that there yet may be an additional …

The Experiences That Form And Sustain Generation Y Religious Education Coordinators In Catholic Secondary Schools, Dirk Gleghorn Jan 2021

The Experiences That Form And Sustain Generation Y Religious Education Coordinators In Catholic Secondary Schools, Dirk Gleghorn

Theses

Students in Western Australian Catholic schools learn about Catholic beliefs and practices in the Religious Education Learning Area. In Catholic secondary schools, Religious Education Coordinators (RECs) are delegated responsibility from principals, to coordinate the teaching of this learning area’s content. RECs are required to be committed Catholics who are active members of the Catholic Church. It is probable that RECs will increasingly be recruited from amongst Generation Y Catholics. For Catholic secondary school principals, recruiting religiously committed Generation Y Catholics into the position of REC will be challenging.

The primary aim of the research is to identify and describe the …

Optical Seed Sorter-Based Selection Lowers Deoxynivalenol Accumulation In Soft Red Winter Wheat, William Jesse Carmack Jan 2021

Optical Seed Sorter-Based Selection Lowers Deoxynivalenol Accumulation In Soft Red Winter Wheat, William Jesse Carmack

Theses and Dissertations--Plant and Soil Sciences

Fusarium head blight (FHB) of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) results in discolored grain contaminated with deoxynivalenol (DON). DON accumulation, an indicator of FHB resistance, can be quantified and used as the basis for direct phenotypic selection, but testing is expensive. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate an optical seed sorter as an alternative to DON testing for FHB resistance breeding. Three hundred F4 derived soft red winter wheat (SRWW) breeding lines were grown in an inoculated FHB nursery over several years in Lexington, KY. Grain from each breeding line was sorted using an optical seed sorter calibrated …

Incorporation Of Summer Annual Mixtures Into Grazing Systems In Kentucky, Kelly Marie Mercier Jan 2021

Incorporation Of Summer Annual Mixtures Into Grazing Systems In Kentucky, Kelly Marie Mercier

Theses and Dissertations--Plant and Soil Sciences

Utilizing summer annual grass-legume forage mixtures has the potential to improve forage yield and nutritive characteristics, and/or animal performance during times when cool-season pasture growth is limited by high temperatures. Legumes can utilize atmospheric nitrogen, which can increase crude protein and forage digestibility in mixtures. As nitrogen application generally improves both the yield and nutritive characteristics of summer annual forages, but can have a negative effect on legume competitiveness, nitrogen fertilizer recommendations for legume-containing summer annual mixtures are not well established.

Two experiments were conducted to determine the feasibility of utilizing summer annual mixtures in Kentucky, USA. The first experiment …

Genomic Selection Strategies To Predict Grain Yield And Disease Resistance Traits In A Wheat Breeding Program, Virginia Laura Verges Jan 2021

Genomic Selection Strategies To Predict Grain Yield And Disease Resistance Traits In A Wheat Breeding Program, Virginia Laura Verges

Theses and Dissertations--Plant and Soil Sciences

Genomic selection (GS) is a form of marker-assisted selection (MAS) that simultaneously estimates all locus, haplotype or marker effects across the entire genome to calculate genomic estimated breeding values (GEBVs). Since its inception, it has had the attention of breeders keen on finding tools to accelerate genetic gain and reduce phenotyping costs in the breeding program. A first objective of this study was to evaluate strategies to design the training population (TP) and validating population (VP) to estimate GEBVs for grain yield and agronomic traits for wheat breeding lines. Our results demonstrate that, despite the small family size, an approach …

Topographic Gradients In Bulk Soil Properties In Central Kentucky Karst Sinkholes, Anne Kathryn Mcgraw Jan 2021

Topographic Gradients In Bulk Soil Properties In Central Kentucky Karst Sinkholes, Anne Kathryn Mcgraw

Theses and Dissertations--Plant and Soil Sciences

The Bluegrass physiographic region of Kentucky is underlain by the late Ordovician Lexington Limestone formation. This area has many identifiable karst features, including sinkholes. Karst sinkholes and associated soils coevolve, which may influence the distribution of bulk soil properties and storage of carbon across karst landscapes. Two sinkholes on the University of Kentucky’s C. Oran Little Animal Research Center in Woodford County, central Kentucky, were selected for analysis. We described and sampled nine pedons at the dominant landscape positions (e.g., summit, shoulder, backslope, footslope, and toeslope) within the two sinkholes; we characterized the physical, chemical, and mineralogical soil properties across …

Death Penalty Exceptionalism And Administrative Law, Corinna Lain Jan 2021

Death Penalty Exceptionalism And Administrative Law, Corinna Lain

Law Faculty Publications

"In the world of capital punishment, the oft-repeated refrain “death is different” stands for the notion that when the state exercises its most awesome power—the power to take human life—every procedural protection should be provided. Every safeguard should be met. Granted, doing so makes the death penalty cumbersome. And granted, it slows what Justice Blackmun famously called “the machinery of death.” But when the stakes are literally life and death, the idea is that we ought to make sure that whatever the state does, it does right.

Scholars have lamented the way that this idea of death penalty exceptionalism has …

Fashion, Models, And Intellectual Property, Andres Sawicki Jan 2021

Fashion, Models, And Intellectual Property, Andres Sawicki

Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal

In this Article, I revisit the impact of Professor Kal Raustiala and Professor Christopher Sprigman 's landmark article, The Piracy Paradox. Their work identified an empirical anomaly that was difficult to explain in light of the standard justification for intellectual property rights: although IP law does not grant meaningful exclusivity in novel fashion designs, the fashion industry invests significant resources developing those novel designs. To account for this anomaly, The Piracy Paradox shifted the focus from the supply side of innovation to the demand side. The standard justification emphasized that innovators face threats of copying that they cannot easily mitigate; …

Trophies For The Empire: The Epic Dispute Between Greece And England Over The Parthenon Sculptures In The British Museum, David Rudenstine Jan 2021

Trophies For The Empire: The Epic Dispute Between Greece And England Over The Parthenon Sculptures In The British Museum, David Rudenstine

Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal

The article challenges the British Museum's claim to the Parthenon sculptures, arguing that the evidence undermines the legality and ethics of their acquisition. It asserts that Lord Elgin's removal of the sculptures was unauthorized and involved bribery, and that the British Museum's defense relies on flawed historical interpretations and misrepresentation of key documents. The article concludes that the moral and legal arguments increasingly favor the repatriation of the sculptures to Greece.

Forages For Conservation And Improved Soil Quality, John F. Obrycki, Douglas L. Karlen Jan 2021

Forages For Conservation And Improved Soil Quality, John F. Obrycki, Douglas L. Karlen

The antimicrobial activities of (Z,E)- and (E,Z)-nepetalactones, 2 major compositional compounds from the essential oil of catnip (Nepeta cataria), were first discovered from fly larval development media studies with over 98% inhibition of bacterial growth. Further investigation demonstrated inhibition of the growth of various bacterial species of public health significance. Catnip oil showed antibacterial activity against 5 Gram-positive and 9 Gram-negative bacteria. The antimicrobial activity varied among the original essential oil from the plant and its major compositional compounds as a blended mixture or an individual compound. Growth inhibition was observed against 5 Neisseria species, with particularly strong inhibition against …

Effects Of Alcohol Use On Total Knee Arthroplasty Patient Osteoarthritis Severity, Preoperative Pain Scores, And Postoperative Range Of Motion: A Retrospective Study, Christopher Ruland, Samir Baig, Zach Warheit, David E. Komatsu, James Nicholson Jan 2021

Effects Of Alcohol Use On Total Knee Arthroplasty Patient Osteoarthritis Severity, Preoperative Pain Scores, And Postoperative Range Of Motion: A Retrospective Study, Christopher Ruland, Samir Baig, Zach Warheit, David E. Komatsu, James Nicholson

Stony Brook Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal Journal

Introduction: Despite the prevalence of significant alcohol use, the effect of alcohol consumption on patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is poorly understood. Other forms of substance abuse, such as narcotic dependence, decrease patient pain tolerance and increase self-reported pain scores, while excessive alcohol consumption has been associated with adverse outcomes following other elective surgical procedures. In the context of TKA, perception of pain is also likely linked to the ability to achieve functional postoperative range of motion (ROM), one of the most important predictive indicators of patient satisfaction. It is not well understood whether heavy alcohol users who are …
