Matters related to emergency preparedness plans regarding companion animals, changes in the human- animal interactions, and perceived companion animals’ changes during the lockdown were analyzed. Researchers used an online questionnaire for data collection. The sample consisted of participants over 21 years old (n = 3,663) living on …

Predicting Tourist Loyalty To A Small Emerging Destination – The Importance Of Destination Image, Binh Nghiem-Phu
Predicting Tourist Loyalty To A Small Emerging Destination – The Importance Of Destination Image, Binh Nghiem-Phu
ASEAN Marketing Journal
In the Southeast Asia region, Vietnam is a developing country and also a developing tourism destination. The number of international tourists to Vietnam has been increasing in recent years. However, the post-trip issues (e.g., not returning, bad word-of-mouth) have become the focal points of many arguments. Based on the existing literature, this study devel- oped and tested a theoretical model to predict international tourists’ loyalty to Vietnam from a combination of destination image, tourist motivation, and overall trip satisfaction. The findings revealed that destination image significantly and positively predicted tourists’ overall satisfaction with the trip and their loyalty to the …

Stakeholder Analysis On Boycott Movement: A Preliminary Study Using Media Contexts, Kresno Agus Hendarto
ASEAN Marketing Journal
Just like the celebrities, social movement depends, to an extent, on media in communicating its activities to the public. The relationship between social movement and media is transactional. On the one hand, social movement needs media to disseminate its activities. On the other hand, media needs social movement as the news source. Scant (beyond very few notable exceptions) empirical research is not available on boycott product as a social movement and stakeholder analysis in Indonesia. The objective of this study is to perform stakeholder analysis on boycott product as a social movement. To do so, the study attempts to answer …

Human agriculture, wastewater, and use of fossil fuels have saturated ecosystems with nitrogen and phosphorus, threatening biodiversity and human water security at a global scale. Despite efforts to reduce nutrient pollution, carbon and nutrient concentrations have increased or remained high in many regions. Here, we applied a new ecohydrological framework to ~12,000 water samples collected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from streams and lakes across the contiguous U.S. to identify spatial and temporal patterns in nutrient concentrations and leverage (an indicator of flux). For the contiguous U.S. and within ecoregions, we quantified trends for sites sampled repeatedly from 2000 …

Global Dog Campaign Case Studies: Kabul, Afghanistan; Chennai, India; Heredia, Costa Rica, Andrew N. Rowan
WellBeing News
Three case studies in which WBI partners are addressing dog homelessness in Kabul, Chennai, and Costa Rica are described. In Kabul, Mayhew Afghanistan persuaded the Kabul municipality to stop culling dogs and then launched a rabies vaccination and dog sterilization project. Approximately 80,000 rabies vaccines have been administered to the estimated 40,000 dogs in Kabul, and 20,000 have been sterilized. Cases of human rabies and dog bites have both declined since the project was launched in mid-2017. In Chennai, the Blue Cross of India conceived the idea of surgical sterilization (Animal Birth Control) as a humane method of managing homeless …

Mathematicians' Beliefs, Instruction, And Students' Beliefs: How Related Are They?, Rachel L. Rupnow
Faculty Articles, Papers, and Other Scholarship
It is generally accepted that teachers' beliefs impact their instructional choices, but characterizations of that relationship are limited in college settings. Furthermore, examinations of instructor beliefs, instruction, and student beliefs together in one setting are rarely described. Based on interviews with two Abstract Algebra instructors, classroom video from three units of instruction, and survey and interview data from students in the classes, this paper examines instructors' stated beliefs, ways these beliefs manifested in their teaching, and students' beliefs across the course. Both instructors made curricular choices clearly aligned with their stated views of the nature of mathematics, learning, and teaching. …

Obesity rates are climbing, representing a confounding and contributing factor to many disease states, including cancer. With respect to breast cancer, obesity plays a prominent role in the etiology of this disease, with certain subtypes such as triple-negative breast cancer having a strong correlation between obesity and poor outcomes. Therefore, it is critical to examine the obesity-related alterations to the normal stroma and the tumor microenvironment (TME). Adipocytes and adipose stem cells (ASCs) are major components of breast tissue stroma that have essential functions in both physiological and pathological states, including energy storage and metabolic homeostasis, physical support of breast …

Main conclusion: Metabolites in Rafflesia-infected and non-infected Tetrastigma were compared which may have applications in Rafflesia propagation. Benzylisoquinoline alkaloids, here reported for the first time in Vitaceae, were abundant in non-infected shoots and may be a form of defense. In Rafflesia-infected shoots, oxylipins, which mediate immune response, were elevated.
Endemic to the forests of Southeast Asia, Rafflesia (Rafflesiaceae) is a genus of holoparasitic plants producing the largest flowers in the world, yet completely dependent on its host, the tropical grape vine, Tetrastigma. Rafflesia species are threatened with extinction, making them an iconic symbol of plant conservation. Thus …

Hybrid Bermudagrass And Kentucky Bluegrass Response Under Deficit Irrigation In A Semi-Arid, Cool Season Climate, Hanna R. Burgin
Theses and Dissertations
As average global temperatures rise, cool-season C3 turfgrasses, such as the most commonly grown Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.; KBG), struggle to tolerate extreme summer heat and increase their water consumption. Hybrid Bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon [L.] Pers. × Cynodon transvaalensis Burtt Davy; HBG) is a warm-season C4 grass that may be increasingly suited for northern ecosystems traditionally classified as transition or cool-season climate zones. Glasshouse and field studies were conducted to compare HBG and KBG water use. The objective of the glasshouse study was to evaluate plant health and growth for two HBG cultivars (‘DT-1’ and ‘NorthBridge’) compared to a …

Resident-Led Physical Wellness Initiative Linked To Less Burnout For Emergency Physicians During Covid-19 Pandemic, Camila A. Calderón, Adeola A. Kosoko, Salil K. Bhandari, Jason A. Lesnick, Derek R. Herkes, Ryan M. Huebinger
Journal of Wellness
Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a significant toll on societal, physical, and psychological health. Emergency physicians (EPs) are susceptible to burnout under ordinary circumstances and may be particularly vulnerable during the pandemic. To reduce pandemic-related burnout, we implemented a residency-led physical wellness initiative and evaluated the effect on burnout among EPs.
Methods: In the spring of 2020, we invited all resident and attending EPs in our department to participate in a four-week physical wellness initiative as part of a prospective study. After completing or opting out of this wellness initiative, EPs responded to an online survey comprised …

The Exploration Of Various Literary Genres Through Short Story Writing, Abigail Cowan
Honors Theses
This project contains four short stories and one collection of poetry. The first, “Touch-Me-Nots,” explores self-harm and healing using the touch-me-not plant as an analogy for avoiding self-harm and leaves readers with the hopeful sentiment of a person willing to heal by “leaving it alone.” Next, “The Bear and the Ant,” inspired by Aesop’s Fables, anthropomorphizes a bear and an ant and leaves readers with a ‘moral’ in true Aesop Fable fashion. Inspired by the ants who ransacked my six-month-old Halloween candy stash, I detail a Bear which attempts to “save” its honey for a day that never comes. The …
