Objective The study aimed to compare neurological complications, pulmonary gas exchange, and mortality among children with congenital heart disease after nonbypass versus bypass cardiac surgery. Background Whether off-pump cardiac surgical procedures have less pulmonary gas exchange problems, neurological complications, and less mortality compared with operations involving cardiopulmonary bypass is debatable. Background Acute bacterial meningitis (BM) is a pediatric emergency with high mortality and morbidity requiring prompt diagnosis and treatment. Objective This study aimed to diagnose transient tachypnea of newborn (TTN) and differentiate it from respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) using lung ultrasound. Background TTN is a very common cause of neonatal respiratory distress and must be accurately differentiated from other causes of respiratory distress. Participants and methods A prospective observational cohort study was carried out on 120 newborns at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Menoufia University Hospital, admitted with respiratory distress and subjected to an assessment of full history, clinical examination, arterial blood gas, chest radiography, and lung ultrasound. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder in children. Over the past twenty years, research on the disease and its characteristics and treatment options has grown exponentially. The first-line pharmacologic treatment of ADHD is stimulants, which have a response rate of ~70%. With the support of four phase 3 studies involving more than 1,000 pediatric patients 6–17 years old, the FDA has approved the non-stimulant, serotonin-norepinephrine modulating agent (SNMA) viloxazine in an extended-release capsule (viloxazine ER) for treatment of ADHD in children aged 6–17. Problem: In the pediatric setting, the change-of-shift report does not traditionally happen at the bedside. Medical error is a significant health challenge in the healthcare system, with substantial effects on patient safety, including disability or death. Failure of effective communication during the hand-off process contributes to approximately 30% of all malpractice claims. Furthermore, inadequate hand-offs have been shown to contribute to 1,744 deaths and $1.7 billion in malpractice costs over five years (Joint Commission, 2017).

Background and aim Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease caused by destruction of pancreatic islet βcells, leading to absolute insulin deficiency. The D vitamins are a group of sterols that have a hormone-like function, which bind to vitamin D receptor. Vitamin D (25(OH) D) deficiency is involved in the induction of autoimmune destruction of β-cells and onset of T1DM. Pediatric burn survivors experience increased risk for bullying, stigmatization, body image concerns, and problematic social functioning. Although coping behaviors are associated with engagement in social supports and positive self-concept in multiple pediatric illness populations, their relation has not been examined in pediatric burns. This study examined coping in relation to social functioning and self-concept in 51 pediatric burn survivors aged 7–17years (M=12.54; SD=2.65). Background: During the Coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, ambulatory pediatric rheumatology healthcare rapidly transformed to a mainly telehealth model. However, pediatric patient and caregiver satisfaction with broadly deployed telehealth programs remains largely unknown. This study aimed to evaluate patient/caregiver satisfaction with telehealth and identify the factors associated with satisfaction in a generalizable sample of pediatric rheumatology patients.
Methods: Patients with an initial telehealth video visit with a rheumatology provider between April and June 2020 were eligible. Manual wheelchair (MWC) users with spinal cord injury (SCI) rely heavily on their upperextremities to complete daily occupations. Due to repetitive shoulder use during wheelchair mobility and propulsion, MWC users are at greater risk of shoulder pain and shoulder pathology, and thus decreased independence, and lower quality of life. This literature review analyzes if gender bias influences the disproportionate number of male nurses and male nursing students in the pediatric, maternal, and obstetric nursing fields as compared to nursing as a whole. PubMed and CINAHL databases were utilized to find 15 research articles focused on the experiences of male nurses and male nursing students. These articles were compared amongst each other to find common themes of the male experience in the nursing fields of pediatrics, maternity, and obstetrics. Practice Problem: Low patient satisfaction has been linked to poor treatment compliance, patients leaving the practice, staff decreased job satisfaction, and high staff turnover (Haskard Zolnierek & DiMatteo, 2009; Prakash, 2010). The relationship between environmental factors and child health is not well understood in rural Pakistan. This study characterized the environmental factors related to the morbidity of acute respiratory infections (ARIs), diarrhea, and growth using geographical information systems (GIS) technology. Anthropometric, address and disease prevalence data were collected through the SEEM (Study of Environmental Enteropathy and Malnutrition) study in Matiari, Pakistan. Publicly available map data were used to compile coordinates of healthcare facilities. To determine the effect of encounter methods on patient experience, we evaluated patient experience survey data comparing scores between telehealth and in-person visits and pre-COVID-19 and COVID-19 time periods. Pediatric subspecialty visits were either in-person or via telehealth and received the same 16-question patient experience survey. Top box (5/5) scores were compared between in-person and telehealth visits for pre-COVID-19 and COVID-19 periods as well as between periods for in-person and telehealth visits. In addition, for both time periods and encounter methods, correlation analysis was performed to evaluate best correlation between likelihood to recommend practice and the 15 other survey questions. …

For children living with a diagnosis of diabetes, com-munity support and education about proper disease management are critical for the mental and physical health of the child and their family. The experiences offered at summer camps hosted by the American Diabetes Association address both of these needs for the pediatric diabetes community. These camps provide children with the opportunity to participate in a traditional camp experience—swimming, rock climbing, tubing, and more—while giving parents peace of mind in the knowledge that their child’s diabetes will be closely monitored by a team of health care professionals. Objective To assess the role of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). Background cSCC is considered the second most frequent type of nonmelanoma skin cancer. The Janus kinase-STAT pathway plays a significant role in the proliferation and survival of various cancer cells. Between seven mammalian STAT proteins, continuous activation of STAT3 is commonly observed in several cancer cells.
